[angry] Been so good for 9 days, looked at a piece of bread and put on 1/4 of a stone [angry]

Gah. Gave myself a week to eat just fruit and veg, with the odd bit of protein (tablespoon of peanuts, or lean meat). Lost half a stone in a week, felt great and then nibbled a few tiny bits and pieces (just a few hundred cals worth) and put 1/4 of a stone back on.

So frustrated, as I had finally got into the dieting 'zone' and felt positive about it.

I have been eating masses of fruit smoothie (3 cans of fruit in juice a day, made into smoothie with added flax/linseed to bulk it out) - I guess that his quite high carb isn't it? I know that the weight loss will have been mostly water, but I really didn't expect to put it back on by having such a small amount of treats.

Should I properly low carb? (and isn't that bad for you?).

I have tried 'proper dieting' but I needed something extreme to get me into the right frame of mind (which has worked actally).

The fruit will send your insulin sky high!

You need fat and protein to sate you.

No wonder you fell off the wagon, that type of dieting isn't sustainable and you will pile on what you lost as soon as you stop.

Low carbing is not bad for you if you do it properly. Read India Knight and Nerys Hughes Idiot proof diet or Dr Charles Clarke's all new high protein diet.

Be nice to yourself

Christ, there's soooo much sugar in tinned fruit!! Even the stuff that comes in own juice!!

Fruit smoothies aren't a good way to lose weight either, say you used 2 apples, 3 plums, 10 strawberries and a handful of blueberries in a smoothie, it fills half a glass.... it's gone in 5 seconds & isn't all that filling...

but if you were to take those apples, plums, strawberries and blueberries, chopped them up into a big fruit salad, maybe with a spoonful of low fat yoghurt, it would take longer to eat and I'm willing to bet you'd feel fuller!!!

Thanks Alouiseq. Isn't the India Knight book nutritionally bad though? I've just googled the Charles Clarke one and it seems to get a good Amazon review.

Thanks Fairhaired. A lot of it is time & budget to be honest, if I can't find something really really quick, I know I won't be able to stick to it. The very thought of chopping all that fruit would send me to the biscuit tin.

Will have a look at some of these books that are being recommended though.

lol....can just about make that post out su!!

try low carbing op.....

FairhairedandFrustrated · 15/05/2010 15:07

Even if you don't chop it, just eat it the way it is, would deffo be more filling.

It's the way I eat fruit & I've shifted 3 stone recently.

If budget is a concern, try Lidl for fruit, it's generally very good & very reasonable for big bags of apples & pears. Pineapples & Melons were 99p in ours yesterday. Be sure & check the fruit though as there can be some rotten stuff that's been picked over!!

low carb isn't bad for you - not at all - humans are not really designed to eat a lot of carbs - which is why people are getting fatter.

your fruit smoothie diet is unsustainable and very bad in terms of blood sugar - if you must eat fruit eat it whole as the fibre counteracts some of the sugar, and you need plenty of protein.

Conundrumish · 15/05/2010 15:52

MS Boogie - the diet was never meant to be more than a week's short sharp shock to get me going having tried and failed to do it the slow and sensible way for many many months.

Thanks all for all your help. I am leaving thread now as going away for a bit.
