Feeling awful

flibbertigibbert · 10/05/2010 18:45

I'm on day 2 of my diet and am feeling absolutely dreadful. I'm a sugar junkie, and am cutting out processed food, refined sugar and white carbs. I had a banana and raspberries as part of my breakfast so I have had some sugar today, just not in the form of chocolate or biscuits every few hours as I would normally have. I need to lose 2 stone to be 'healthy'. I have PCOS and a family history of diabetes so I have to lose this weight for my health.

I have a terrible headache that no amount of water or painkillers will sort out. I live 200 metres from a big Tesco full of sugary snacks that would make me feel better.

I need some reassurance that I will start feeling better and that it will be worthwhile.

DO NOT DO IT

Think about it. you would eat the carap, feel a bit better while you stuffed it in your gob then feel SOOO crap afterwards. back to square one. you are on Day 2 of the eating for the rest of your life . Be kind to your body

(BTW I'm not talking out of the top of my head, I have cut back 99% on bread and sugar too, adnlost about a stone in 7 weeks) it can be done)

Coem to the 'nothing tastes diet trhead' we will soon beat you out of your sugar addiction!

mummymels · 10/05/2010 20:50

It will start to get better I promise. I am doing a low carb diet but also no sugar and the first few days are really hard but once you get through them and the cravings start to go you will feel so much better.

flibbertigibbert · 10/05/2010 20:59

Thanks for the reassurance. I had a sip of DP's orange juice which made a big difference. I'm looking forward to getting all of the junk out of my system and not being a slave to sugar anymore.

cyb - well done on your weight loss!

I was going to say eat some fruit.

Frozen grapes are brilliant, they taste sweeter than usual and take a long time to eat.

Just keep at it.

HumphreyCobbler · 10/05/2010 21:05

Also it is really hard, giving up sugar.

A friend of mine cut it ALL out (including fruit and milk) for the candida diet, she said it was worse than giving up smoking for her.

You are doing really well, it would be a shame to waste all that effort now.

flibbertigibbert · 10/05/2010 21:07

Humphrey - It'll be a big adjustment for me to get into the habit of eating fruit. I posted the other day about how I was brought up with some awful eating habits, so it's hard for me to get my head round the idea of eating a piece of fruit instead of a biscuit. It's a habit I know I have to get into though.

flibber, up your protein in terms of snacks..have some cheese and a couple of oatcakes if you feel peckish, have a drink of water, I have developed a taste for green tea which I would ahve spat out a few weeks ago

HumphreyCobbler · 10/05/2010 21:11

Why don't you plan what you are going to have? I find that really helps. Make sure you have lots of really nice fruit in the house, melon, kiwi, grapes, blueberries.

Also cooked fruit (with a little frutose instead of sugar) is a brilliant and tasty breakfast.

I am trying to give up all refined sugar at them moment. I am eating a lot of fruit instead, I know it has calories but I refuse to demonise fruit.

Maybe you could have a transition week when you eat as much fruit as you want, rather than restricting it? It could help you over your sugar cravings more gently and make you more likely to stick to it.

flibbertigibbert · 10/05/2010 21:15

At the moment I'm trying to restrict my snacks to fruit, so I'll get more used to eating it. Previously, I would go for weeks without eating any - though I do eat a lot of veg. I have been having 20g of raw nuts a day as a snack.

flibber what is a typical days food for you, each meal

HumphreyCobbler · 10/05/2010 21:19

yes, I do think it is important not to make too drastic a change. It means it is so much harder to stick to.

Fruit is so nice, you will soon get into the swing of it.

flibbertigibbert · 10/05/2010 21:24

I'm only on the 2nd day of eating more healthily but this is what I had today:

B: Smoothie made with 1/2 a banana, raspberries, 100g Greek yogurt, 200ml skimmed milk and 30g oats

L: Soup made with kidney beans, tinned tomatoes and lots of veg

2 ryvita, homemade mushroom pate (mushrooms, low fat cream cheese, onions, herbs etc)

Snack: 20g cashews

D: Big piece of baked salmon, puy lentils cooked in stock with onions carrots and celery, broccoli

I drank lots of water and redbush tea with skimmed milk

blimey thats almost a detox! I'm not half as healthy as you! I reckon give it a week of feeling CRAp, I mean really crap and next week you will not even recognise yourself and the weight will be falling off. you will sleep better, feel leaner and lighter (and wont fart anymore) I'm impressed

flibbertigibbert · 10/05/2010 21:36

I feel that I have to be strict with myself.

a. because I'm not someone who can just have a couple of squares of chocolate as a treat - I'll eat the whole bar.

b. I'm absolutely fed up of my weight and PCOS symptoms, and if I carried on the way I was eating then I will end up with diabetes and I don't want DP to be as worried about me as I am about my dad.

cyb · 10/05/2010 21:46

think in positive terms about the good you are doing for yourself. you will sneer soon at people who pile sugar into their drinks,. and stuff biscuits into their gobs thinking 'Urgh, i used to do that'

mummymels · 11/05/2010 19:33

flibbert ? how are you feeling today? You sound as if you are doing really well.
