Has anyone followed a low GI diet (for health or weight loss reasons) and want to let me know how it worked/recpes etc.?

I know it's not the sexiest of diets but I can't manage anything else as I get migraines if I let my blood sugar drop too quickly or don't eat for a while . Would like to sort out my diet as have been really busy recently so my food intake has gone up the swanny (think more pizza than fruit and veg!).

I bought a GI book a while back but can't find it and did remember thinking at the time that it would be a lot of work but maybe I was wrong?

thanks teamedward, that's very useful. I'll look up the book on amazon.

I also found this in the Times from 2005 that has quite a lot of receipes low gi diet over 4 weeks

did you find it quite hard work (eating that way) or was it not too bad? (congrats on your baby and the losing weight!)

was just reading the bit about steak to dh who is now very keen on it

yes, I think summer far easier too (in terms of changing the way you eat).

we have had a really bad start to the year (me and dh). Both been stupidly busy at work, we've moved out of the house into a short let while we are getting work done and we've just stopped cooking really and have been opting for easy meals (like pizza or ready meals) just to get us through this period and have been skipping meals and snacking on biscuits/crisps.

What has surprised me is that eating like this has made us both put on weight v quickly. I mean I know that eating badly can do that but I'm surprised at how quickly it's had an impact on our health!

So time for a change me thinks....

I only managed to start losing the post baby weight when my youngest started pre-school I think (so when he was about 2.5/3). You finally start feeling more like yourself at around that age I reckon!

I did low GI when I had GD with my last pregnancy, and it was great in terms of eating well and not putting weight on. But I wasn't allowed to cheat at all because I was paranoid about blood sugar, so I rather fell off the wagon when DD arrived and am just noe climbing back on. I do think that for me at least it's the most sustainable approach to healthy eating provided I get a slice of cheesecake every couple of weeks.

yes it does seem like common sense but I have realised, having read some of those links, that we eat a lot of those white carbs (like white pasta, white rice etc. and I think my first step will be changing these for things like puy lentils (that I quite like but probably don't cook often enough). Thanks for the good wishes.

I know last time I tried this, my migraines did decrease in frequency so I'm looking forward to that upside!

(and diabetes runs quite strongly in dh's family so it will be of huge benefit to him too)
