God I'm so annoyed with myself. Bought a wii fit a couple of years ago. Used it for a while and then left it collecting dust for a year.

I dug it out just after christmas and weighed myself - 11st 11lbs!!!!! I then looked at one of my old wii fit records from a year earlier - 10st 2lbs!!

I'd put on all that weight in the matter of 12 months.

So I tried the usual low fat diets, didn't work as I like fatty food too much. So I tried atkins and lost 12lbs. So two weeks ago I weighed 10st 13lbs.

Then I gave up on atkins because I missed my crisps and chocolate. I weighed myself this morning and I'm now 11st 6lbs.

I'm so annoyed with myself but I sit here typing this with a packet of chocolate buttons.

Why can't I stop it???

Aww buttonNose i know you feel miserable and there is nothing i can really say as what works for some doesn't work for others (like atkins). all I can tell you was you need to get going on your self belief a bit more - perhaps concentrating on being healthy and fit and forget about food for a while - maybe the eating healthier will come into your life of its own accord as you wont want to undo your hard work you put in at staying fit and healthy.

Atkins is a quick fix diet which is not likely to help you keep weight off long term.

A good diet is one which is well balanced and satisfying so you stand a chance of being able to maintain it.

Well balanced means not giving up high fat high protein foods entirely, but balancing them with high fibre veg and grains, and plenty of water.

It means recognising the difference between junk food treats and real nourishment.

buttonnose I know just how you feel, I have really struggled with weight loss for years, then just decided I would do it and did. I have now settled in to a good in the week, eat what I want (within reason!) at the weekend and it seems to be working - I know that denying myself doesn't work!

Buttonose, is it the thought of giving up completely the stuff you enjoy that puts you off?

I agree with omydarlin different plans for for different people. Maybe something a bit flexible would work better, I do ww and can work in a bag of crisps here and there.

My dh has just bought a wii - if you do it several times a week you could burn off a fair few calories!

Is it that you genuinely like it too much, or is it that you crave it?

I do the alternate day diet, and I have to say it has empowered me - I am now in control of what I eat.

I used to not be able to get through a morning after breakfast without eating something carbohydrate-y (crisps, biscuits etc). If I had something in my bag then it would have to be eaten. I had no control over cravings AT ALL.

On the alternate day diet, you eat what you want one day, then restrict your calories the next - and for the first two weeks you restict them to 500 calories! So you have to be really careful how you use them - which in my house means lots of quorn and vegetables and soup and berries with sugar free jelly occasionally (which is gross, but if you want something sweet its really really low calorie).

If you crave something you can control it by knowing you can have it the next day. And more often than not, by the time the next day comes, you don't want it any more!

It can help with things like asthma and other inflammatory conditions, and it also means your metabolism doesn't slow because you are not eating low calorie every day.

It's not for everyone, but it might work for you. Whatever you do, good luck!

I agree with Riven that Paul McKenna is worth a go if you give up because you miss banned food. Nothing is banned on Paul McK. It's all about regaining control of your natural appetite, breaking bad habits and getting rid of emotional eating. It's working for me. Not rapid weight loss but sustainable and very relaxing. That obsession with food can disappear practically overnight with his methods. Come and have a look on the thread.
