Easier Exercise DVD than The 30 Day Shred?

I am 3 stone overweight and not terribly fit (GP has advised I do plenty of exercise tho, so no medical issues!). Can anyone recommend a more suitable DVD than The 30 Day Shred? I can force myself through Level 1, but I am just not enjoying it at all, so would rather do a lower intensity DVD for a longer period. I want to be pleasantly hot and puffed out, rather than gasping iyswim. I'm not bothered about toning up particular areas or even weight loss, I'm keener on the health benefits re:cholesterol/BP

Thanks

Davina's 3 x 30 minute workout dvd is fab. I like the middle workout the best.

Amazon are doing it here for £13.99 but they are also doing the box set for the same price.

I've managed to lose 5 stone by walking a lot every day. Haven't gone near a dvd.

Ledodgy · 02/05/2010 10:22

You know what you are right smallishsheep when I first started losing weight I used to go on a 45 minute brisk walk everyday and that improved my fitness and my weight and also cheaper than a dvd.

Lizzylou · 02/05/2010 10:22

I find the shred hard too and have been exercising for a while, it makes you ache in places you didn't know could ache the next day.

I have Zoe Luckers "Little Black dress" workout, it is very good but not so high impact.
Cheap off PLay.com as well.

TotalChaos · 02/05/2010 10:29

smallish - how much do you walk then roughly?

thanks for the recommendations ladies! I know the natural way is cheaper/better, but it is useful to just be able to shut myself away in my bedroom sometimes to get it done.

I walk a lot. No idea of the distance, but it's not unusual for me to drop dd at school, strap ds in his buggy and walk about all day, stopping at parks, ducks, shops on the way. I'm lucky to live in a city where really everything is walkable, but there are hills and fields to make it more interesting.
I started at 15 stone and was bloody miserable. The weight loss and so much fresh air has done me the absolute world of good.
I can't really do dvds as don't have time, and I live in a first floor flat- I don't think the downstairs neighbour would appreciate it
Now I've lost as much as I want to, I might start doing a dvd just for tone though.

nancy75 · 02/05/2010 10:51

can i ask those that walk a silly queston? - what do you wear on your feet?
i enjoy walking but need to do lots more to shift some weight, but i can never find shoes that dont kill my feet

smallishsheep · 02/05/2010 10:53

I don't have special shoes. I am very vain and just wear whatever goes with my outfit- boots, converse or flip flops usually.
If you are doing serious walking though, it's worth gettign to a proper hiking shop so they can help you with the fit.

nancy75 · 02/05/2010 10:58

smallishsheep, vanity is also a problem, i am shivering at the thought of the fugly walking boots!
how long did it take you to lose 5stone?

TotalChaos · 02/05/2010 11:22

For suburbia/city walking, crocs/trainers/any comfy shoes will do. For hill/mountain walking then hiking boots.

Took 6 months. I did Neris and India's idiot proof diet too, which is low carb. I'm maintaining weight now and eating normally (may have had a few sausage sandwiches yesterday ) I put on a lot of weight when I was pg with my ds, my ex partner left me during the pg I was depressed and just didn't notice the weight going on.
I just reached the point where I'd had enough, but working out has never been my thing. The walking will tone you up too. I have killer arms now from pushing ds about all day

twinkle183 · 02/05/2010 14:41

Tiffany from eastenders has good one.. I can't remember for the life of me what her name is

GettinTrimmer · 02/05/2010 19:06

Martine McCutchen.

I have Clare from Steps - she's good at showing the easier options, and exercises with some fit men.

I did the 30 Day Shred on Friday, and I am still aching!

TotalChaos · 02/05/2010 19:16

well done on the weight loss btw sheep.

Thanks for the other recommendations ladies, will see if the library has either in.

what about a wii? do you have one - there are lots of fitness games on it if you do?

babyball · 05/05/2010 09:31

I recommend Taebo. Most DVDs come with basic workouts and advanced. Billy Blanks is quite shouty and entertaining and definitely keeps you motivated. Kicking and punching is good for letting out frustration as well . I do Taebo, Davina and 30 Day Shred. Only was able to do the Shred 6 months after baby born by c-s. I am very overweight. 15 and a half stone. Have just lost 1 and a half stone on SW and can still do the 30 Day Shred. Definitely perservere. It's meant to be hard and it does improve after the first few workouts I promise!
