Hi any tips on some exercise and good diets that work?

Im 5'5 not weighd my self recentley but am usualy 12.7 to 13 stone. Am ok with my bottom half thats not too bad wear a 12 that have quite alot of space but my belly is huge its totally out of proportion to rest of me it gets me down everyday i go shopping for clothes i end up coming home with nothing at all and walk around in the same few baggy long tops to hide it. Dp as not seen my belly since i had my first child 6 years ago because im so embaressed. I dont no where to start any ideas? Im so tempted to buy some diet pills but dont want to fill my body with rubbish that wont work.

The first place to start is by losing weight. Some of us (myself included) carry spare weight in the belly area and you've got a good 2 stone wrapped around your middle right now.

Second thing that leads to a wobbly stomach is a poor/imbalanced diet. If your diet is too heavy on refined starch, processed foods, salt, sugar, alcohol and so on then you can be carrying half a stone in fluid retention quite easily.

Finally, poor muscle-tone. However, if you're overweight, your muscles aren't going to get much of a look-in

So to fix those problems you're looking at the following

  • Improving your diet so that it's based mostly around fresh vegetables, some wholegrains and other whole, unprocessed foods that you prepare and cook yourself. Drink a litre or two of plain fluids (ideally water). The less salt. sugar, alcohol, preservatives, colourings and caffeine in your diet, the better hydrated you are, the more regular your bowels, the flatter your stomach
  • Controlling your calorie intake to a level of about 1400-1500 a day split up into three evenly-spaced meals and a few light snacks e.g. fresh fruit
  • Getting daily exercise for about half an hour. A brisk walk, cycling, jogging, an exercise DVD, digging a garden - a mixture is best.

Hope something in there helps. Pills don't work.

Agree completely with Chil You'll feel great once you start to lose the weigh and exercise. I've just taken up running, using bupa website beginner's programme. And I feel great for the rest of the day, it also motivates me to eat better. The first week I did 3 runs, which were 20mins of running for 1 min, walking for 2 (very beginners level!) and I lost 3lb's and 2% body fat . 2nd week I've been ill, but continuing with it on Monday and can't wait!!

I have the same problem Stary, I was almost 13 stone, 5ft 5, but have lost just over a stone. I need to be 10.7 stone, and I would say the excess stone and a few lbs still to go is all round the top half of my body.

Exercise makes all the difference, completely agree with Chil and mama - start off perhaps by going for walks and maybe thinking of an exercise dvd? Also healthy diet, I have protein such as eggs/beans/fish at every meal with brown rice/granary bread/ryvitas, and have just started following weightwatchers.

Good luck.
