Hi there.

Just really looking for ideas here!
Ill fill you in so far-in the last 18months, I have lost just over 2stone (from 11st 7lb to 9st 6lb). I have now seemingly plateaued however and for the last 4 or 5 months i have hovered around the 9st 6 mark.
Ideally i would like really like to get down to 8st 7lb (im only 5'), maybe lower though thats my goal for now. I have virtually no vices left to give up-I dont eat much chocolate, crisps or anythinhg remotely 'bad', and I ahve my portion control down to a fine art! I rarely drink any alcohol or juice. I exercise every day-I walk at least 3miles per day, sometimes more and I also do exercise dvd's and 'your shape' on the wii, and I also play golf once/twice a week.

I am really stuck here, so any ideas/suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Gosh you are doing so much to loose this weight. I'm very impressed. I have 2 stone to shift and finding iy hard to even begin taking on the measures you have. Even though I know its all essential. I find it very intimidating.

The only advice I can think of is to try some kind of different high impact exercise. Your body has possibly got used to what you are currently doing. Also, are you eating enough now? Funny question I know but your body may be holding on to its fat in responce to the fast like diet it is recieving.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply bumbums.

It was quite hard in the beginning, but I knew that it needed to be done. Although I wasnt grossly overweight, I knew that If something didnt change I could end up like my mum and granny who both have diabetes.
I changed one thing at a time-for me it was the food first, then doing more exercise. Im sure that when the time is right for you, you'll just be able to go for it!

I had wondered perhaps if doing another type of exercise might help, but I dont think I could do running anymore (bad knees and largish breasts, do not a runner make IME! ) I may start up swimming again though

And your second question, I have started to eat slightly more. I noticed that as the weather started getting better, and I started my walking properly again (was down to 4days over the winter) I was getting hungry quicker! And despite my strictness, as hard as it is to believe, I do quite like food! I guess what I need to find is foods that are filling but not empty wrt nutrition...

Thanks for replying, you have certainly given me some food for thought

And good luck to you too. You will get there in the end!

You're doing really well with the exercise

Does 'your shape' on the wii build muscle?

Apparently muscle burns more calories to maintain, I do a fair amount of aerobic exercise, but less muscle building, so I am going to do Davina's bottom fit which is alot of toning and her top fit where she works out with weights. I have another 16lb to lose, already lost a stone.

LostGirl · 28/03/2010 16:39

I'd second adding the weight training to your weekly routine. It will help build lean muscle (providing you are eating enough protein in your diet) which in turn will boost your metabolism, and if you continue your healthy eating then the weight will continue to come off. Because you don't have much left to lose (congratulations by the way!) then it will come off slowly but it will be in a sustainable way. If you do anything drastic to drop that last stone (ie low calorie/low fat diet, excessive exercising) then you are not going to sustain it forever and the weight will come back once you adopt a more realistic lifestyle.

Thanks guys for the ideas.

GettinTrimmer- with 'your shape' you can change the workout settings so I guess that I could set it to do more weight training. I had just been following its suggested routine, which focuses on something different every day. Might go down that route and give it a shot. It really focuses on cardio come to think of it, about the first 20mins of any workout thats set up is just pure running and jumping about and me generally feeling very puffed out!

And well down on your weight loss too. I'll bet you feel better already

LostGirl- i dont think I do eat all that much protein tbh-again something I will have to think about! I have been so focused on cutting out fat and sugar, that I havent really replaced it with 'better' foods iyswim.

Thanks again for the advice guys, its good to have some input from the outside. its sometimes hard to see where you are going wrong yourself!

Hi In1981.

Im around the same weight as you, and looking to be around 8st 10lb too, but wouldnt turn my nose up at 8st 7lb! Im only 5ft 2in so look much better at under 9st.

Since Ive reached 9st 8lb the weight has come off very slowly. Ive been eating low carb, but quite a lot of dark chocolate and cream etc, Ive also been exercising, but doing either davina, jogging or skipping, the same old routine day in day out. What my friend has suggested to me (hes a personal trainer), is that the body gets used to the same routine, exercise and food wise, and adapts, so you stop losing weight. Then needs something completely different to shock it, so it has to learn to adapt again iykwim, but will lose weight. From reading your posts, maybe do some weight training and eat more protein. In order to lose the last stone, Im upping my weight training, eating more protein, and going to exercise classes that are out of my comfort zone.
I'll let you know if it works!!

Well done on losing all that weight though

ln1981 · 30/03/2010 10:45

hi mrswill.
know what you mean about looking better at less than 9st!
I dont look too bad at the mo (at least that what everyone tells me!), but I know once im below that magic marker, I will feel better about myself.

I think im going to try doing that too. its quite a sensible way to go about it. it has been very tempting to try the quick fix i have to admit, but if it ultimately meant that i would put it all back on again what would be the poiint!?
And i will start to look a bit more toned in to the batgain so its a win-win situation as far as i can see

i will let you know how i get on too.
Good Luck!

Hi there - I can totally sympathise - I am 7months post baby and am almost at pre-preg weight, although I have found that my shape has changed, so it's not just about what the scales say but how I look too.
I have tried no carbs, no carbs after 7, no alcohol etc... all of which help but at my age (34) I need to exercise too. I have tried classes but you eventually plateau, you have to keep pushing yourself to avoid this... so - I can recommend personal trainers, but its expensive, however I have recently discovered a great iphone app by British Military Fitness, it's a personal trainer in your ear and having completed a few sessions with it - I can totally recommend. Obviously if you don't have an iphone/touch you can't use it.....

dinky1975 · 30/03/2010 11:00

by the way its called my fitness instructor in the app store.

ln1981 · 30/03/2010 11:06

Hi dinky1975.

Well done on nearly losing all the baby weight.
yes after 3 babies, my shape has definately changed-i know have hips and a what i can only describe as a shelf from my cs with ds1!

I dont have an iphone unfortunately but I have thought about doing those military fitness classes that seem to be springing up all over the place. dps friend has done a few of them and he said they were great.

is there really nothing left that an iphone cant do!!??

mrswill · 30/03/2010 15:42

Oooh, I have an Iphone, so will have a look at that. Ive just ordered Jillian Michaels 30 day shred too, as it seems to have good reviews on here, for the times when I cant get out to classes, running etc.

I know what you mean about after baby body. Im now size 10 but I seem to have acquired a lot of flab in places, even though Ive been exercising. I dont think my stomach will ever be the same! Ive been on my new different exercise, and different food 'regime' since monday, so will post next week and let you know if its shifted my plateau. Its like doing a little experiment on myself.

madeindevon2 · 31/03/2010 13:44

sry to hijack. im similar 5ft 3. i was 12stone in october.
now 9st 13 and struggling to get lower.
i exercise regularly (3-4 times week now) mix of cardio and weights.
what do you all eat? generally for breakfast lucnh dinner
do you know how many calories u have a day?
just looking for tips i wanna be just under 9stone ideally....

dinky1975 · 31/03/2010 20:50

Hi
When I'm really trying to cut down I have no carbs - so it would be boiled eggs for breakfast (on their own), salad for lunch and fish and steamed veggies for supper. Generally even after a few days of that I can see big differences. The only other thing I can suggest is to keep turning the dial up on your exercise as our bodies get used to the same regime and use the least amount of calories possible (if indeed you do have the same regime)
Most importantly - well done for getting where you are - that's a lot of weight to lose and we all have what I call sticking points that we struggle to get beyond - but you will. Keep it up.
x

mummymels · 31/03/2010 23:22

In1981 you have done so well getting where you are now. I have been doing a low carb diet called Go Lower since October and have so far lost 64.5 lbs but I have also found the last few weeks my weight loss has really slowed down so now I either stay the same or only lose 1/2 lb a week. What diet have you been doing? I have been eating Go Lower meals as the diet consists of them sending you your meals but this week I have started making my own low carb meals to see if the change makes any difference.

ln1981 · 03/04/2010 20:52

hi mummymels-sound slike you have done well too! well done you!
i didnt do a particular diet, just changed my eating habits really. i dont eat much chocolate or sweets or crisps, and when i first started, i halved my portion sizes (which sounds dramatic) so that i wouldnt feel guilty about going back for more if i still felt hungry. i did think about doing a low carb diet, but i like bread and pasta too much!

hi madeindevon2- well done on your weight lose so far too!
i have just changed my exercise program to include more weight training, so am hoping to see some improvement soon! a couple of others posting are doing the same thing.
stopped counting calories at the mo as it can become obsessive. have decided to do what others ahve suggested and eat more protein. though i think key for me will be the exercise!

How are you doing In1981?

ln1981 · 25/04/2010 12:19

hi mummymels.
Im not too bad, how about you?

how have you been doing with your own low carb meals? have you managed to lose any more weight?

since i last posted i have managed to lose a couple of pounds, so hovering around 9st 4lb, which i guess isnt actually all that bad.
At the moment I am focusing on getting to 9st, as have come to the conclusion that smaller targets at this stage might motivate me a bit better.
i have toned up a bit though (lots of people have commented which made me feel a bit warm inside!), and my tummy is actually starting to look less jelly like-hurrah!

Hiya, sorry for delay replying but all my saved chats seem to have disappeared so trying to find them all again!

You are at a great weight. Well done. I would love to weigh that!

I am doign fine thanks. Weight loss still slow but I have lost so much that it is only expected so as long as I don't put on I am happy.

I am getting used to making my own meals not but still should try and be more adventrous!
