I have just turned 39 (shhh don't tell anyone ) and I have give myself a year to sort myself out which includes loosing a bit of weight! I need to loose about a stone and a half so not loads but enough.

Which route would you recommend?

different things suit different people.
I'm doing SW as have no will power at all. and the classes are just like something from little britain. they are a hoot.

I've done SW before and while I found the diet relatively straight forward to follow I found the classes quite cringey to sit through. Not sure I have the will power to do it alone!

Done WW and dabbled with SW, preferred WW as a diet and got the best results from it. Went to classes as needed the kick up the backside each week, definitely agree with the above though that it can get a bit Fat-Fighters! Worth staying for though, you can pick up lots of tips from other members.

Would suggest reading their websites to have a look and see which you think would suit you better, good luck if you can do the healthy eating but I never had the willpower to go it alone either.

My sil did SW but found that because their diet allows you to eat quite a bit, although it meant she didn't go hungry during the diet, she also found it didn't help her with portion control once she had reached her target weight and really it's portion control that is key to losing and keeping off weight.

Why not just increase your activity levels and only eat lower fat foods and the right combinations of carbs, oily fish, fruit and veg, cut out unnecessary fats in your daily diet etc to knock off the extra weight and keep it off?
Get your dp/dh or someone close to you to be your helper by making sure you don't deviate and when you are tempted make sure they are free to tell you "are you sure you want to eat that?" (I asked my dh to do this and he was great at it)
I lost 2 stone within a year by just doing that and it completely re-taught me how to eat and changed the way I felt about food and I've never put the weight back on.
