Is it possible to loose more than 2lb a week?

Hi, I've been on diets many times before and have never lost more than 2 lb a week. I've heard that this is a good amount to loose etc. I'm doing it through diet, my excercise is staying the same really.
I'm going on holliday in 2 months, and want to loose as much as possible, preferably more than 2 lb a week.
If I really increased my excercise, could this happen? I'm not sure if it's healthy to loose more than this a week, and does it make it harder to keep it off?
Please let me know, as I don't want to go hell for leather and end up disapointed.

Yes, it is possible to lose more than 2lb per week. But not good for you and almost certainly more likely to result in weight re-gain.

You would have to restrict your diet so severely to lose more than 2lb per week that your metabolism would slow down, your body would go into "starvation mode" and there is a school of thought that says the body never recovers properly from an episode like that.

Although no one wants to hear it I think optimal weight loss rate is about two stone per year, or 2-3lb per month.

Doesn't help when you have holiday plans though, does it?

Oh! not really. I would be more determined to keep it off this time. I've always been very slim, until I had my daughter. I used to have very active hobbies etc. Now I don't do much, I work nights which dosn't help either.

I wonder if I can keep it from going in to starvation mode, by eating little and often but healthy things. So I'm getting regula nutrients, but more excersise maybe?

I was horrified when looking through old photos with my Dad. There was a picture of me at 17, in a swimming costume on holliday, I looked so skinny. My Dad said, "This is C, before she discovered Mr Kipling."

Hi

it is possible as I have found myself. I suppose it all depends how much you have to lose as to how possible it is for you though. I had about 4st to lose and have lost 21lb since new year so on ave. About 3-4lb a week though last week I lost 6. I have been doing my own variation on the scarsdale diet (google it) as some things on it I don't like and others I can't eat due to bowel probs! It is working well for me at the mo so I am aiming for another 12lb or so by the end of march it is classed as a crash diet though even though I am picking and choosing my own variation. Good luck with your weight loss!

Thank you. I had about 3 stone to loose. I've lost about 1/2 a stone already. I know I won't loose the rest in time for my holiday, but I want to loose as much as I can.
I am just following a simple low calorie diet and avoiding high GI foods.
I think drinking more water and more excercise will help.

Well done on the weightloss so far! Drinking more water most definitely will help and also maybe green tea to detox too can help filter out and shifts stubborn poundage I retain water and drink black tea and try to drink at least 2l of water a day too which helps (I notice when I drink black tea I wee about twice as often) shift retained water and the pounds tend to fall off also water takes away hunger feelings that are usually thirst in disguise therefore cutting calorie intake too!

Great! I will go and get a glass a right now.

I can't stand Green tea, but maybe I could tollerate it if it works. I might have to drink it cold though so it'll go down faster.
