I've got a posting on the 'pregnancy' thread about ketones and low carbs in pregnancy - perhaps any low carbers could offer some advice?

Thanks

I was on a low gi diet when I got pregnant with ds1. In fact, I thought I couldn't have dcs, had been trying to years and a couple of months after starting the diet I became pregnant. Was the montignac diet which is not as restrictive as atkins, you can eat vegetables, but all carbs have to be slow release, so wholemeal bread, porridge etc. Didn't actually lose weight while pregnant because i had started a few months before so was just maintaining weight. Put on 2 stone during pregnancy and ds1 was 8lbs 6oz. Still follow the diet now. You can get information on it online and get the list of what foods are 'allowed' and low gi stuff.

I would also suggest that rather than going 'low carb' during pregancy and risking getting an imbalanced diet and possible malnutrition problems, you follow deleting's example of a Low GI or 'good carb' way of eating. Carbohydrates provide a lot of important energy and nutrition and, if you make intelligent choices rather than trying to eliminate them, they will serve you very well and keep you in good health.

If you need to lose weight post-pregnancy, a Low GI based diet combined with some portion/calorie control and increased exercise should be very effective.
