You need to start from the beginning. Successful weight-loss means taking in slightly fewer calories than you use up. If you set your intake number too low (a really common mistake) you can easily find you end up feeling tired, hungry and irritable.... and not losing weight, ironically. Quit smoking at the same time and it's a recipe for disaster

I'd strongly recommend getting onto an online calculator such as the Health Calculator on iVillage or a similar one on the CalorieCount website and working out your total energy needs. If you're overweight and very active (running) then this number may be higher than you expect.

Next step.... deduct only about 700 cals from this number as your weight-loss target. Again, you could end up with a higher number than you expect.

Finally, make up this calorie target with a good variety of healthy foods.... mostly fruit, veg and wholegrains with other foods to make up the balance. Again, I'd suggest using using a database such as the one at CalorieCount to keep track of your intake. Weigh and measure foods rather than guessing. Eat regularly rather than skipping meals. If you need 1600 cals a day to lose weight, for example, you could decide to aim for a 400 cal breakfast, 400 cal lunch, 500 cal supper and 200 cals worth of snacks

A 400 cal breakfast could be 2 slices of wholegrain toast, 2 poached eggs and a glass of orange juice..... If you work on each meal the total will take care of itself.
