i go on holiday in may
i am 5.2" i did weigh 12.10

last may i decided to start low carbing. i am not a particularly big fan of meat - i would rather have fruit and crackers and bread and crisp any day of the week

but like you - it was all out of control.

the thing with low carbing is that if you buy yourself a set of digital scales - you see weekly cramatic weightloss

you cant cheat. you cant. once you uncerstand the principles - its not worth it - or elese you have to wait 3 days for any further weight loss and you see your weight rise the very next day.

its hard at first. becuase sugar calls to you
there is sugar in almost everything and its an addiction. sugar in fruit, sugar in bread sugar in everything.

if you are intrested in really taking this further using a low carb method and properly sticking to it then i'll give you a hand.

think on though first week is really hard. don't make me waste my life writing shit out if you don't want to do it

Tortington · 13/01/2010 09:11

i now weigh ( as of this morning) 9st.2 and bought a size of size 10 jeans last week.

em83 · 15/01/2010 20:35

oooo custardo ! how did u do it ????
i am desperate

you have to count carbs. you can't eat any bread, rice, pasta, anythng with carbs in.
no fruit as it is full of sugar
no milk
splenda sweetner only for coffee or tea ( but no milk!)

you should first start you should allow yourself 20 carbs per day.

veg has carbs. tomato and root veg are particularly high. however cauli and broccoli are reasonable in value.

you must search online and get the carb value for anything you cook.

use a site like fitday.com to input and regulate your weight.

there is a site called lowcarbmegastore.com. on this ste you can buy carb free items such as sweets and lollipops, and low carb stuff too. i buy the bread. it is 1.9 carbs per slice but that is fine for my daily intake.

you can eat cheese. you can eat any meat - ANY except sausages, i find sainsbos do a chipolata which is 0.6 per sausage.

a half can of tomatos is 6 carbs.

you can see how this can easily mount up.

what happens is the body isn't getting any starch or sugar and the fat from the meat isn't the same fat that the body uses to store fat - so it uses the existing stored fat - as you aren't topping it up.

You can eat eggs.

so you could have bacon egg sainsbo sausage 2 spoonfulls of tinned tomato, mushrooms and 2 slices of low carb bread and still only have eaten 10 carbs.

my main meal for the day is usually some kind of chicken breast fried in a FLAVOURED olive oil. falvoured olive oil rocks - chicken gets old really fast so spice it up with lemon or chili olive oil. i fry with a slice of onion a couple of mushrooms and eat on a bed of lettuce.

i also do a bolognaise ( after a fashion) but without the pasta.

so i fry the mince and onion and mushroom add garlic and spices and half a can of tinned tomatos.

you can buy a whole turkey and eat the lot - no carbs - same with any meat - eat as much of it as you want until you are full - you should never be hungry on this diet.

sallystrawberry has some good tips too - so ask her when she is on the 'whats for dinner' threads. one of her recipes was thinly slicing a cabbage and that acts as a kind of spaghetti

everything is full fat - that is how it works - its hard to wrap your mind around it

so for instance - buy some sugar free jelly and eat with full fat cream. this has carbs but only a few.

Tortington · 16/01/2010 18:44

buying digital scales to see the weight loss is fundemental - absolutley = you can see your weight going down daily - even if its by only .3 of a pound.

as your weightloss continues - you lower your carb intake to maintain weightloss.

your boyd takes 3 days to go into what is called "ketosis" this means where it uses your existing fat. if you go over your carb level or cheat - you then have to wait 3 days for ketosis to kick in again. so was the tube of pringles rally worth 3 days? it isn't worth it for me - i like to see weight loss daily.

i am now 9st.08

down further on my previous post.

it works

it works daily.

OMG Custardo this does sound fab - are there any books you can recommend to follow this properly? Can I assume that alcohol is a no no on this eating plan?
Well done you for your loss - I bet those jeans feel & look great

Tortington · 17/01/2010 02:27

nothing specific - thee are lots of

GypsyMoth · 17/01/2010 12:44

i lost alot of weight cutting out the obvious carbs such as bread, potatoes, pasta and rice. but the i get confused about other carbs.

had o idea tomatoes were full of carbs. have o idea about any other carbs at all.

i'd prefer a thread full of what we CAN eat,ot forbidde stuff. just easier....i could follow that i guess.

i'm the sort who needs exercise too tho,i got addicted to it once and had to wea myself off,so the low carb diet was good. i have aroud 4 stone to lose, but being tall obody ever believes me

em83 · 17/01/2010 20:06

WOW custardo id like 2 congratulate you on your weight loss ! unfortunately this doesnt seem the right diet for me

If you are interested, I am also doing low carb but it is a diet called Go Lower where you eat proper meals that are supplied by Go Lower so are nutritious too and very tasty.

ben5 · 21/01/2010 02:07

sounds like the aitken diet. have tried that a couple of times but can't get through the first 5 days. my kidneys were killing me, i was very tired but i did loss weight. i've since but that weight back on and now eating less of the things i like and trying to have a healther diet. it's working but slowly.

Chandon · 21/01/2010 09:43

I think low-carbing is well known for quick-fixes, but ultimately messes with your body.

If you don´t eat carbs, doing sport is hard as your body will SCREAM for carbs, and it will cause a crashing headache. Also, eating more cream and fatty meat (sausages) is bad for your liver (and health). Drinking low-calorie drinks other than water are also bad for you as they trick your brain into thinking some energy (carbs) is coming in, and then it doesn´t come and you´ll soon be craving exactly those carbs you´ve been cutting out.

I think the best thing is to eat less crap (cut out biscuits, deserts, take-aways etc.)just eat a normal breakfast (porridge, cereal or bread, eggs etc.)normal lunch (sandwich, soup or pasta and a piece of fruit, no crisps) and dinner (carbs, protein and loads of veg).

Then get more active so you tone up. This method may take a year to lose maybe 2 stone, but I think it´s a healthier and more attainable way of doing it.

After a while, you just loose the habit of eating junk. And still, you´re never hungry.

Really fit sporty people DO eat carbs, they eat bananas and baked potatoes (with tuna or beans, not fat laden sauces or cheese)and pasta.

Personally I think eating carbs and doing lots of sport is better than cutting out carbs and then being to weak to exercise...

Still, good luck to anyone with short term solutions, for some people it does work (like Custardo, quite amazing). Don´t mean to discourage anyone, just try to be a voice of reason .

mummymels · 22/01/2010 02:29

I have to admit that I couldn't be doing
with constantly counting calories and carb's etc. which is why I've chosen
Go Lower which is low in carbs but at least you still get to have chocolate treats etc. That way I get a happy medium because I'm not depriving myself of things I like and I have to admit chocolate is one of my favourites! I've tried that in the past and when I stopped the diet I put the
weight back on but that shouldn't happen with this one hopefully.

I think that's what makes the world go round that different ways suit different people and it's great that we can all find the diet that suits us best. Em83, I really do hope that you find something to suit you too.

careergirl · 22/01/2010 08:32

i've just cut out extras and any rubbish. Just have some choc once a week as a treat. Lost 6lbs since Xmas.
so basically for breakfast I'll have some shredded wheat or weetabix then I don't eat whilst lunchtime when I'll have a sandwich (relatively plain though don't chuck loads of mayo or dressing on!) and some low fat crisps (Boots Shapers for example) then for evening meal fish or meat with plenty of veg. And that's it I don't eat between meals even the low fat bars and I use my stepper as well every other evening say for 15 to 20 mins. You can do this watching the TV for example so not too bad.
Feel a lot better and now at the stage where I really don't want sweet stuff like choc, biscuits, cake and so on.
Also don't have to spend ages counting carbs and points!

mummymels · 22/01/2010 22:38

You've done brilliantly careergirl, good luck with it.
