go for walks as much as you can,

buy little non-food related treats (a magazine, lippie, nail varnish, nice new pen)

Don´t get hung up on weight, just get into a bette life style (easier said than done, I know)

Downhill I can really agree with the walking. Around 7 weeks ago I realised it was getting out of hand just how much weight I was putting on - felt really depressed about it but I just felt too low to join gym or diet, so I decided to start walking a bit, just a quick walk in morning as fast as I could, but without tiring myself out and eating as normal, but without any biscuits or crisps during day. It really works I didn't tell anyone and people started to comment on how much weight I had lost after about 5 weeks that for me is the best reward. Just do what you can its better than nothing and I promise you you will see a difference.

Downhill you're not the only one!! I have, over the last two years, put 2 stone on. I have a reasonable active job but I feel like a bit of a lost cause. I feel so sad and frumpy. It's not rocket science what has happened but I got into a bit of a rut. None of my lovely clothes fit me.

However I've had enough!!! I've told Dh to stop buying me Greens and Blacks for the evenings. I've just started my no alcohol until weekend routine. I went back to the gym yesterday and did the belly off exercises You can do these from home just google WomensHealth magazine Belly off workout. I have friends coming to dinner tomorrow but they are going to be on a low carb meal - Hallumi and with Dattoush salad.

I ordered a pair of Nicole Fahri trousers and a LK Bennett dress. Normally 12 would be perfect. Not this time! However I am going to keep them and work my wobly butt off to get back into that size.
I miss people saying 'You're only little' and 'there's nothing to you!'

What was it Kate Moss said 'nothing tastes as good as thin or something? Well apart from G and B's Butterscoth she may have a point.

I am taking Friday off and going to walk the Kentmere Horseshoe and I'm having a jog tomorow.
I know I've gone fat when my nan says I look well and my mother says you've let your self go !!!

THAT wasn't good advice It was a rant sorry[embarrassed]. I am sympathising!! My point is you have to make a start when you feel ready and basically get more active.

Using a BMI calculator, you are only just overweight. If you lose a stone, or a stone and half, it would put you in the middle of the healthy range. Or even better - aim to lose half a stone AND tone up. You would then be in the upper range of the healthy range, but would look SO much better because you would have improved muscle tone.

I find a low GI diet is effective, sensible and healthy.

Exercise absolutly essential though - help you to lose weight and lift your mood. Walking/running and pilates are my top tips.

upahill · 15/12/2009 13:37

Wasn't much help was I? sorry. I had a little rant before.

Anyway the advice from Chandon and Pershore.. is good. Walking is a really good mood lifter. Try 'new 'local places. Explore a little. Pick up a local OS map and you will probabaly be amazed at what good walking paths there are near you. Magazines such as Country Walking and Trail are good for route ideas. It doesn't have to be anything big just get a few miles in on a regular basis. I've planned sometime over the next couple of weeks to get some good walks and cycles in. I'm aiming to get back up to my 50 lengths of swimming like I used to.

I have a big do at the end of january so I am using that as a target to have some results!

Size doesn't correlate with sizes, down.

I'm 5'5 and have been a size 8 and weighed 10st, but I was very active, fit and toned.

I'm now a size 10 (on a good day) or 12 and weigh the same 10st, but nowhere near as active and flabby.

I'm more unhappy about my general shape than size, but trying to walk more - cannot diet unfortunately!

Don't deprive yourself - have a couple treats a day, but maybe try incorporate more fruit and veg in your diet.

Could you fit a 1/2 hour walk into your day?

Wuxiapian · 20/12/2009 14:21

Sorry, I meant weight doesn't correlate with sizes.

Tut.

duckyfuzz · 20/12/2009 14:33

you're right about weight/size not correlating, I am now a comfy size 12, having slimmed down from 14-16 I am 5'7 and weigh around 11st 7, just on the edge of acceptable on BMI - others my height/weight are completely different shape and size. lose a bit, do some exercise, see how you feel and good luck

kikisunflower · 20/12/2009 14:55

What's the main reason you are depressed? General exhaustion. Single. Friends all off in different direction. Or just that you are overweight. Children on another wavelength? or just to demanding. stressful job. bullying? friends or family to demanding, partner to demanding .....Maybe try to look into issue and try and resolve it somehow any how .... Imagine you have have moved into your area from scratch, think about what you would do to start again?!?!?
