I have been really lucky and never got the hamster cheeks but do have a jelly belly if my steroids go up and I keep eating I am on a low dose of steroids now but still can't shift some of the weight.Exercise is the key for me but I am a lazy lump at times and my heart means I can't do anything high impact so lots of walking I have bought a pedometer and am starting tomorrow They are really cheap.Alsoa food diary helped me when the docs suggested I lose some if fact I may start that again

Twiglett · 11/03/2006 18:58

oy misdee ... I'll do it if you will Grin

wanna be dieting miseries together

have promised myself I will wear a bikini this summer .. and as we may well be meeting up with 3 friends in Devon I need to shift the lard

what do you reckon? want company?

Flossam · 11/03/2006 19:02

I too need a kick up the behind. Every week atm I think I will start slim fast/ healthy eating/ exercice/all of the above and then do it bugger all.

I have no idea how much I weigh and really aren't keen to know. Sad However, I have been measuring myself, second week in. Lost a couple of centimetres of waist but nothing else. Sad

Spagblog · 11/03/2006 19:02

Lose weight
You will feel healthier, sprightly, your skin will glow and your joints won't ache so much
Just replace all your white carbs with wholemeal versions
Eat fruit instead of junk snacks
Drink lots of water - 1 glass 30mins before eating

If you want to bother, don't eat proteins and carbs together

Keep a diet diary

Photograph your self in your undies every fortnight! You could always stick the first pic on the fridge!

misdee · 11/03/2006 19:13

and who can i get to photograph me in my undies lol.

twiglett you are on.

i have eight cans of slim fast i bought after my LL disaster (i cant face going back to LL as i feel i failed), so will be kickstarting with slim fast.

so far today i have had weetabix with skimmed milk, a diet bar (100kcals) slim fast shake, another diet bar, a banana, and a jacket potato with chicken with helmans very light mayo. have switched to sweetner as well.

not enough fruit today really. tomorrow will be more apples and less diet bars.

misdee, don't go bananas. Thats the worst way to be IMO.

Flossam · 11/03/2006 19:21

By bananas I don't mean avoid the fruit I mean don't cut out too much too quickly!

Twiglett · 11/03/2006 19:21

exellent

will start monday

how about a detox as a kickstart

a really easy and supposedly effective one is to eat nothing but red apples for between 1 and 3 days then finish with 2 tbsp olive oil ??

what do you think? possible? I have so far completely failed to do this

misdee · 11/03/2006 19:22

not sure i can stomache a teaspoon of olive oil lol. so red apples for monday and lots of water? sounds like madness lol.

OP posts:
misdee · 11/03/2006 19:23

definatly not 2tbsp of the stuff!!

OP posts:
Kidstrack2 · 11/03/2006 19:26

Think of it in a way that benefits you and your family, i.e if you don't do it now you never will, you want to be a role model for the kids, you want to be a fit granny when the time comesSmile, you want to walk into a shop and not look at the back of the rail for the bigger sizes, in a way if you start now you will have a good chance of keeping the weight off when you are much older as it gets difficult when you are older to shift the weight, come on you can do itGrin you know you want to!

misdee · 11/03/2006 19:30

i oprdered a pair of 40pounds jeans last year, and iwant to fit in them this year. thats my motivation (40pounds for jeans is expensive IMO)

OP posts:
Kidstrack2 · 11/03/2006 19:33

Ffffforty pounds is expensive, crikey get them hung up ouside your wardrope and try them on every other week to get into them, bring on the slim fast, it does work my sister used it to lose weight and she has kept it off

teacups · 11/03/2006 19:52

What about joining us on the lardy club thread misdee? I would do the link but I am awful at them but has lardy club in the title.

I am a WW usually for weightloss but have also not really been arsed since C'mas. I think the best way for me is to change eating habits. Don't think of yourself as being on a diet otherwise it's too easy to blow it etc etc. Just think healthy eating...

Lots of fruit and veg
30 mins exercise (walking or whatever) every day.
3 healthy meals every day
No snacks (or at least no crap snacks like crisps etc)
The odd treat
If you fall off the wagon, then get back on...when I am "dieting" I think "well I have blown it now so may as well eat myself silly..." I think it's better to say well never mind, I'll eat sensibly at the next meal....

I realise that this is easier said than done but it does work. WW is based on healthy eating rather than dieting. It is also damned hard to diet when you have lots of stress going on - maybe you coudl try doing healthy eating rather than add another strain to your everyday.

HTH

teacups · 11/03/2006 19:55

misdee, just found you on a bf thread.... even more reason not to diet but just to eat healthily (and copiously Grin)

misdee · 11/03/2006 20:15

lol. i dont have time to get to WW/SW atm, and my usual babysitters (my parents lol) are away fr 2 weeks, then i am off for a week, so i may be able to start WW in april. but i really need to start this now, in 3 weeks time i may have lost my will power again.

Misdee - I am also 5ft3 and weigh 13 stone

I have been on an unsucessful diet for the last month - but yet I am still motivated! Bizarre

I am desparate to loose 3 stone, hopefully for the summer :)

misdee · 11/03/2006 20:21

what was the unsuccessful diet?

OP posts:
hermykne · 11/03/2006 20:31

listen you guys, try the hay diet - there no limit on the amount you eat, just eat protein with neutral or carb with neutral.
so fish/chcikcen/meat and salad p/n veg soup with no potatoes (really filling)but no bread .

potatoes and veg s/n

and a totally neutral meal once a day yogurt and fruit or a salad.
it really really does work and u are not hungry.
and if u feel like a relapse u can have your treat and start again without starving yourself.

the idea is a starch meal a protein meal and a neutral meal a day.

porridge is starch and a good filling breakfast with toast as bread is S too, so it really fills u up til lunch,

the idea is that its easy onthe digestive system to pass the meak thru that having to break down starch and protein together.
then the body uses up more energy to do so.

kathryn marsden has a book on it
as did the orginator DR Hay way back in the early part of last century !!

mogwai · 11/03/2006 20:36

Misdee, I'm a veteran of calorie-controlled diets. I lost 4 stones in 2001 and went from a very large girl to an average sized one!

I put on about 3 stones when I had my baby last year and am in the process of getting it off again. I've lost a stone since new year Grin

For me, the best thing is lack of variation. If I take the choice away, I don't have to think about what to eat.

Most days, I eat 40g Allbran for breakfast, soup and a yoghurt for lunch and an evening meal of about 400 calories. I snack on apples or strawberries, I rarely eat carbohydrates, and I take in about 1000 calories a day, plus a trip to the gym twice a week.

We have one treat a week, for example, a take away on saturday night. I expect to lose the other 2 stones by July/August. It's slow and steady and unlike slimfast or LL, it's a way of eating for life really (always knowing how many calories I'm taking in and pretty much following a GI diet once I'm at my target weight)

Good luck!!

misdee · 11/03/2006 20:39

i am not great at mealtimes, i dont have much hunger at breakfasdt or lunch, so tend to eat unwisely. most lunchtimes i am out so eat o nteh go, am thinking i can do a shake for lunch so i know i'll have it with me and wont slip.

am off to have an banana and a glass of water, stomache growling

bunny3 · 12/03/2006 00:09

i second hermeknes recommendation of food combining - it looks a bit odd but worked really well for me. I lost 1 .5 stone in a couple of months and it stayed off (till I had children!). And I drank alcohol on it- any diet banning booze will never work for me!

HAPPYFACE · 12/03/2006 19:47

Just thought I'd give a tip I read of after you've had you're dinner brush your teeth, actually I tend to floss mine as well! this makes sure I don't eat anything else in the evening because I don't want to do it again!
I found it really hard in the beginning especially watching my hubby sitting there in the evening eating rubbish, just what I used to do.
But your body gets used to it and I've stuck to it for 3 years now!! The trouble is if we go out and need to eat later I find it hard because the hunger isn't there! Good thing really.
Still need to lose last 1/2 stone after son whose 19months old so I might start doing it after lunch too ( writing this has made me think of this!) or I'll still reach for the chocolate too much!!
