WW seems tough on 17 points - tell me to get over it!

Just a tiny whinge as 'leftover' points to use on snacks don't seem to exist for me on 17 points a day! Just starting on WW so perhaps I will get used to it - 'tis early days. Come and tell me to get over myself!

I remember being on 16 points a day and it was tough.

The best tip is to fill up at every meal with free foods. I'd have weetabix with skimmed milk and then add a handful of rasberries or strawberries. Then lunch and dinner would always include piles of vegetables.

If I remember correctly the WW own yoghurts are just half a point each so snack on them with lots of fruit thrown in. They also make a chicken noodle soup that's just half a point a can. It's a bit watery but add a little pepper or chilli flakes and it spices it up.

Good luck!

17 points christ you must be very young or very skinny!!! I have 19 pounds to loose and am on 21 points

TwoScrambled · 27/05/2009 10:21

I am on 19 points, dreading managing on less!

On a good day I can do abou 15 points, so some left for a class or two.

I always start on porridge (3). Huge salad (0) and mayonaise (1/2) for lunch with some 4 ryvita (1/2 each) and marmite, and a ww soup (1). Maybe a yogurt too (1). Last night for dinner I had roast veg (0) with grilled chicken (2 1/2) and sweetcorn (not sure, about 1 I think). I can only do this if the salad and the veg are huge mountains!

I cant always do such a basic day but this kind of day doesnt leave me feeling empty.

TwoScrambled · 27/05/2009 10:23

Rice cakes are good to snack on, I like the salt and vinegar ones. 1/2 each.

Yes it is very tough.
Agree with filling up on free foods , so it helps if you love cherry tomatoes, mange tout, raw pepper, all that stuff.

another filling thing is to roast lots of free veg -onions, carrots, peppers, courgettes, aubergine, etc and use it to fill pita bread with a wee bit of low fat cheese spread, or mixed with tinned tomatoes as a pasta sauce.
You get quite a lot of bang for your buck that way.

Are you all losing weight?

GossipMonger · 27/05/2009 10:35

It is about knowing yourself and when your snack munchies come on!!

Mine is at 4pm when the boys want biscuits! so I have a WW bar for 1.5pts.

I tend to eat

Rice Krispies 1.5pts

Lunch is a mahoosive salad with Ryvita and LF philly cheese. 3pts

Apple and WW yoghurt 1pt

WW bar at 4pm

Dinner I go mad and do a huuuuuuuge tray of roasted veg with no cal spray - 0pts and a bit of chicken 1pt. Served with broccoli and cauliflower and bulgar wheat.

Total is 11pts and then if I want to snack in the evening I can.

I'm actually 53! I'm only 5ft 4in and have a start weight of 10st 4lb, which is just under the overweight category for my height. I have put on half a stone or so in the last few months and I want to nip this gain in the bud. I know a lot of you would be very happy to be where I am, but I'm not!! Let's face it weight loss is hard for us all. Anyway I have got used to it now and have lost 2lbs in the first week. However I'm not looking forward to loosing another point when I get under 10st!

Tell us what you eat in a day and we can help.

I am 5ft 5' and would love to be your weight! but then we are all different etc

Keep going!

TwoScrambled · 27/05/2009 10:58

I am 5'4" as well

Trays of roast veg are the only reason I am loosing weight I think. I am loosing about 2lb a week.

I may need some new inspiration soon tho.

Have you tried making your own zero point soup and having a week of zero point lunches? It can give you a bit of a boost if things slow down.

I find it really helps if I know I am having a big dinner.

OhBling · 27/05/2009 11:10

We've got a little WW support group happening here if you want to join us.

17 sounds hard. I struggle with 21 for the same reason - snacks are difficult. I'd say try get a few activity points in - it makes a huge difference if you can claw a point back here or there from a 20 minute brisk walk three times a week.

Agree with the 0 point veggie stuff - although am not that good at it myself yet!

Dorothyredboots · 27/05/2009 14:08

Actually I'm managing a lot better now I'm getting into the swing of it.

I have Weetabix (or Special K) for brekkie. Cup of tea and 0.25 pint milk which does both tea & the cereal.

Lunch can be a tuna or chicken salad. I've also had jacket potato & beans; Ryvita with extra light cream cheese and smoked salmon; poached egg and smoked salmon. Sandwich made with weightwatchers bread and containing tuna with extra light mayo or egg mayonnaise (extra light again). Plus a few little tomatoes on the side. I'm going to have soup as well and I will investigate making the no point soup.

My Mum has been in hospital and due to lack of time Dinner has been a point counted ready meal quite a few times - so about 5 or 6 points there. I have also had a home made stir fry which was 5 points. Or oven baked salmon fillet or chicken breasts with boiled new potatoes and the veg mountain of course.

I have had a pear or grapes or strawberries for fruit but am avoiding the bananas as they are more points.

I know I need to eat more veg - I have spent years hating most fruit and have got into it to get my 5+ a day and now it's costing me points! Irony.

I am a good cook and love nice food. I have realised that I have simply been eating portions that, whilst reasonably healthy, are simply too big, i.e. I eat as much as my husband who is 6ft!!! Doing this diet has also made me realise that I can live without alcohol (well nearly) and I actually feel rather healthy! My digestive system feels as if it has much less work to do.
We never have biscuits in the house anyway and I only had chocolate once a week and very seldom ate crisps. DH is diabetic and so we made some sweeping changes to our diet about 4 years ago and knocked the crap processed stuff on the head (except in emergencies).

BTW I do the gym twice a week (30 mins running, rowing, bike each time I go) and I walk two miles to work most days. Do my own garden and housework of course and work 22.25 hours a week so I think I am fairly active.

Bearing the above in mind any more tips welcome. Keep at it girls we are doing great!
