Hi all, I wasnt sure where to post this but im planning to start TTC possibly in around 3 months. Im fairly overweight (BMI 34ish) and am about a stone heavier then before I got pregnant last time (DD is almost 2) Ive always been big and have lost weight before but always gained it back. Im hoping to have at least lost a stone before TTC but in reality I'd prefer it to be at least 2 or possibly 3. Last time I had mild high blood pressure and had episodes of sugar in my urine towards the end of my pregnancy, probably due to my size. What Im asking is in your opinions would you got for conception because its the right time etc or wait until I was more in shape. TIA

if it were me I would wait. Although I know that feeling of desperately wanting to TTC and it's very hard to resist isn't it?

my reasons why?
after my second child I lost 2 stone and, more importantly, got a lot fitter
I am now nearly at the end of pregnancy number 3 and I can honestly say it has been SO much easier than my previous 2.
it's been more enjoyable too, because I've been more active, able to do stuff with the other children, haven't been a breathless wreck on the sofa all day! lol

and also it will hopefully help me after the birth too, to regain my shape a bit quicker perhaps, and just generally enjoy my children more.
I Know i've put some of the weight back on during this pg, but i'm prob still going to be a fair bit lighter than after I had ds2

Hello Mumbear. I am in the same sort of dilemma as you. My son is 2 and a half now. DH and I have been talking about having another for nearly a year.
I'm very worried about being pregnant again because it was such a horrific time for me before, mainly due to my size.
I'm bigger now that when I got pregnant before too.
Deep down I know that I won't lose enough weight to make a difference to the pregnancy, but I think I am sub-consciously putting TTC off because I am scared.

Of course, non of what I have said helps you at all, sorry.

I did once speak to a lady in a similar situation who spoke to her doctor about. She was advised to go ahead and TTC as she was in her 30s and that she ought to be more concerned about her age than her weight!

Why not try 6 weeks on the Cambridge Diet ? It is quite a drastic diet but the weight loss is very fast - you can probably average 4lb a week, so give yourself a boost in weight loss quickly before TTC (and you never know how long that will take).

The Cambridge Diet gives you the perfect combination of vitamins and minerals and that fact alone seems to mean a lot of people are more fertile whilst on the diet - I certainly was !

In fact, I did the diet for exactly the reasons outlined above and lost 16 lbs in 7 weeks, which brought me down to a BMI of 31

Thanks TIY thats what im thinking will happenI did honestly feel like crap the last 2 months of my pregnancy. Were you still overweight before you got preg the last time or had you got down to a normal weight? For me to be in the normal weight im lookin at 4-5 stones which is just not going to happen unfortunately

Thanks for your replies, im on slimfast (have my off days) my issues are with portion control so it suits me perfestly but obv want to be off it before I try to get pregnant. It just that its tick tock to the time frame I set myself and ive not managed to make a difference to my weight I will have a look into the cambridge diet though thank you

no, i wasn't overweight, had got down to a nice sensible place.
but I think that even if you "only" lose 2/3 stone it'll be a big difference to how you feel.
my top tip is exercise though, I started walking everywhere I possibly could (even the 30 min walk into town which i didn't think was possible!) because I think being fitter helped me a lot more than just the weight loss.
