Can I really be 14 and a half stone? How did this happen? Weight Watchers or Cambridge?

I've finally bitten the bullet now that I've stopped breast feeding DS3 and have to face up to the fact I'm 14.7 stone! I'm 5'5" and there's no escaping it - I'm really quite FAT!

I think I'm going to go for a 3 pronged approach to shifing 3 stone; Cognitive behavioural therapy, the gym and weight watchers... however, a small part of me is tempted by Cambridge/lighter life, but I did some research and am afraid that as they put your body into starvation mode, as soon as you start eating (sensibly) again the weight piles back on almost as fast as it comes off.

Weight Watchers is sensible and realistic I know, but I have so much to lose love the idea of kick starting at least a stone by doing the milkshake thang!

What do you think?

I think that whatever diet you chose, you will probably lose a fair amount in the first few days anyway, which should give you a bit of a kick start. Agree that eating less, moving more and addressing the underlying issues is the way forward.

This is the best time of year to go for it - good luck!

I joined WW this morning, have read through the pack and am surprised that you can eat all foods, you just have to count your points if you do it this way. Im in the focus zone so am very determined at the moment. I dont have any social events coming up so am very optomistic I can do it. I have 2 stone to loose and am hoping to do this by Sept.

Thanks for the support! Thing is, people like you when you're fat (funny isn't it?) - and I am a big believer in counting your blessings and think that if all I have to worry about is being fat then I'm lucky in life. These aren't helpful thoughts given my size and will condemn me to a future of obesity.

Another issue is that my adorable dh and I have put on weight together, and we laugh about it alot! We tease each other. BUT again I know in the long term this isn't good - all these behaviours are keeping us fat. When I'm at home I feel fine but as soon as I go out I feel massive. Also i don't want to see old friends/colleagues (I used to be a sexy foxy city sliker pre babies - didn't we all?) and honestly think some people would be shocked to see me now.

Am determined to get it off and keep it off this time.

dietqueen - what's your story? Why the gain?

baby, part time work, spend more time in nowadays so drink most evenings. Weekends tend to get ds in bed early and cook 3 course meals to make up for the fact we are not going out on a sat night....no exercise, all in the car. Very complacent....also hit the big 40 so harder to loose it quickly nowadays.

But Im very happy other than the fact I hate myself for being so overweight!

My friend's just lost 2 stone in 3 weeks on the Cambridge diet, he found it really tough but the weight just fell off. It was only a month ago and as yet isn't putting the weight back on, he's eating quite a healthy diet in the week and having the usual take aways and alochol at the weekend.

My other friend did Lighter Life last year and lost 3 stone in 3 months, she found it REALLY hard too but it's all gone back on.

I've just joined up to the "Weight Loss Challenge", promoted in our local Sainsbury this week. It's a 12 week course, you pay £40 for the course and the winner of the most weight (calculated on the percentage of your body weight lost) wins £300. Incentive enough for me. I'm 14 stone and would like to get to 11.7. The challenge starts on Monday evening....I've paid up front to be sure I go1 Wish me luck, I'll need it

ritherdon, ithink you have read our current cambridge thread but thought i would add my two penny worth anyway. I lost 3.5 stone on cambridge 2 summers ago and although i have put on 1 stone, that happened in the last few months when i became very depressed and spent a lot of time on my own with dh working all hours. I think whatever way i had lost the weight i would have put the stone back on (and it was nearly 18 months later that it happened)

Cambridge is not easy, to just give up food completely takes a lot of will power for the first few days, but the rewards are so worth it, I am on day 2 and the scales are already showing a loss, fair enough its water i know - but nice still.
