That sounds a little patronising - of course that is the plan long-term, however I would imagine most of us need a "kick start" to get things going and motivate us to carry on.

TitsalinaBumsquash · 16/04/2009 08:42

Soshie - I have Fibromyalga its a right bitch isn't it when excersise comes into play. I have been doing just 20 situps a day a cant manage anymore with my back pain. I was doind so well healthy eating yesterday untill i caved and ate 2 xhoccy bars.

LibrasJusticeLeagueofBiscuits · 16/04/2009 08:45

It's not patronising at all sazzerbear a kick-start by cutting all things that you like out seems much more doomed to failure then a mindset that you would like to lose weight and you are going to do that by eating healthily and properly. i.e. no wine for 6 weeks arghhhh, a glass of wine once a week with an evening meal much more likely to succeed.

DOes it really need shifting KM? Or is it more a case of yu would like it slimmer and its fine really?

Maybe you need to change your workout?

At mo i run every other day where i can(ie DH not working and no visitors), i wii fit every day for at least 15/20 mins - usually on the yoga but always hula hoop! i dance once a week and i do somewhere between 100 and 200 sit ups a day. I also use a resistance band occasionally too.

janx · 16/04/2009 11:41

OMG - mumof monsters where do you find the time to do all that? I work 3 days a week and on those days - get home, put kids to bed and cook dinner and then its nearly time for me to go to bed. On thurs/Fri - dp works late so not home before 9pm
100 - 200 situps a day - wow you are impressive. Are situps the key?

OP posts:
MerlinsBeard · 16/04/2009 11:58

i don't do them all all at once!! I don't work either and my house is a mess - that's prob why! I only run for a bout 40 mins but its 3 miles ish and stress relieving, dance is my "thing". I use the resistance band while watching TV or MNing and when i feel a bit flabby.

Sit ups def helped me, there are several kinds that you can do - i call them all sit ups but they have proper names that i don' know! A bicycle one where you bring right elbow to left knee and vice versa - traditional ones - ie lie down sit up, erm, twisty ones - like the bicycle ones but without the legs and crunches which are just mini ones but really fast!

Its easy to fit in lunges etc when youa re cooking/cleaning/ironing or whatever - just stretch a bit while you do it. My theory is that little is better than not at all!!

Not a great attitude if you cant be bothered to cut alcohol out for 4-6 week?!
After all, it is empty calories.
Eating things you like is why most people are over weight!

Bascially you will be eating foods your body is designed to consume and do things with;
Lean meats, fish, nuts, vegetables, fruit, water, eggs etc etc.

It's a healthy option, which is sustainable. After the period of time you can introduce some wheat back in and check for intolerances. All of this will be explained to people on the challenge.

Take a look through the numerous posts on this board of people pill popping, low cal diets, liquid diets etc. None are healthy, few get results.
This is the plan I use will my clients, and they lose fat, incerase energy levels and feel great.

OH situps are rubbish! They Will hurt your back. Look for reverse crunches, planks, supermans, lying cycles etc

MrsBoo · 16/04/2009 12:31

Mark - sounds really interesting, I think i will sign up on your site - cant do any harm

LibrasJusticeLeagueofBiscuits · 16/04/2009 12:34

"Not a great attitude if you cant be bothered to cut alcohol out for 4-6 week?!"

Bollocks, it is possible to eat healthily, lose weight and still enjoy one or 2 of the nicer things in life. You are more likely to succeed if you don't try and deprive yourself. The majority of women who start dieting, have a lapse and eat some biscuits and go oh well I've blown it now might as well have some ice-cream now. They need to re-educate themselves that a biscuit is just a biscuit and having one every now and then is not going to kill you.

"Eating things you like is why most people are over weight!"

Actually eating too much of things you like is why most people are over weight.

"Take a look through the numerous posts on this board of people pill popping, low cal diets, liquid diets etc. None are healthy, few get results."

Now that I agree with. Or at least if they do get results it all goes back on.

MarkPT · 16/04/2009 13:59

All I'm doing through this is promoting healthy eating, and fat loss, naturally.

Surely you'd agree that cutting alcohol (excess calories that the body does nothing with) will contribute to weight loss?
I'm not saying forever, but surely 4 weeks is do-able.

The whole "elminiation" for 4 weeks, is to reset the body, remove toxins, and get it in a "decent" state.
Yes, probably drinking the odd glass of wine a night, won't do much harm, but if you want good results, you'll minimise or remove it for the period.

I never said you cant lose weight, through eating healthy and having the odd thing you like, I just said it's not a great attitude to not want to cut something out for a period, when following a set plan!

The food plan I give talks about what to do after the 4 weeks, and re-introducing alcohol or wheat etc...

either way, you want to join the challnege and lose fat, feel great for free, or you don't, know skin off my nose...I'm here to help!!

Glad we agree on something.....

LibrasJusticeLeagueofBiscuits · 16/04/2009 14:22

Ok first you say 6 weeks then you say 4-6 weeks and now you are down to 4 weeks.

Yes cutting out alcohol will cut down on calories consumed but I am sorry I don't agree it will necessarily lead to weight-loss. Deprivation diets can lead to people obsessing over the one thing they want and then binging on it. I didn't say a glass of wine a night I said a glass of wine once a week. Also you are not just talking about alchol you are also including wheat and I would be interested in what the etc is as well.

What I think is a great attitude is someone saying yes I want to lose weight and I am willing to do it using portion control and re-education about food.

Sorry can you clarify what you mean about "remove toxins". My body already knows how to remove toxins.

No it's no skin off your nose, but I take it before you send this diet sheet out to everyone who wants it you will be making sure they are not pregnant or nursing mothers, how much weight they need to lose, how much exercise they do per week?
To come to a majority female site and post on the Big / slim / whatever weight loss club ONLY just seems a little odd to me. And yes you do want something, you want testimonials. I am sure if you want to advertise your business you have to pay on mumsnet.

MarkPT · 16/04/2009 14:30

Jesus. There is always one.

OK I'm gonna keep it bried coz I'm busy. Being a professional PT, of course I'm going to check on pregnancy etc etc.

Secondly, I havent decided if the challenge is 4 or 6 weeks, who cares?!

I think you need to read some of the other posts here and see the "bad" ways people are trying to lose weight and failing, the damage they are doing to their bodies...I offer a healthy option, to those interested.

My client base is 90% female, I'm a dad, hence being on here. I'm not charging for ANYTHING so it's not promoting my business. People want to leave testimonial they do so, they don't they don't.
I contacted mumsnet about this challnege and heard nothing...therefore I took it upon myself to offer it to those who want to take it up.

Maybe you should try and help some people, give them options, you seem to know how to do it?

Those that want my help will get it, those that don't, won't

LibrasJusticeLeagueofBiscuits · 16/04/2009 14:46

Every single female out there knows how to lose weight, it's simple eat less (or at least switch to a more healthy option) and move more, as a PT you know that. Every single female out there who wants to lose weight is looking for a quick fix and they trust you because you are a PT. You actually use the word sacrifice in your post and want people to give up alcohol and wheat etc so yes excuse me if I am a little .

You are advertising your weight loss programme you are trying to get volunteers, just because it's free doesn't mean it's not promoting your business.

LibrasJusticeLeagueofBiscuits · 16/04/2009 14:49

I would like to say I am very jealous of your home gym.

MarkPT · 16/04/2009 15:05

I wish I was as righteous as you.
Be proud of yourself.

LibrasJusticeLeagueofBiscuits · 16/04/2009 15:36

Just because I am asking you to actually justify yourself (and your claims) doesn't make me righteous.

I hope the ones that email you do get the answers they want and I do hope if they do dare to have a biscuit in the middle of the 4-6 weeks they will see it's not the end of the world.

sazzerbear · 16/04/2009 18:41

This is all getting a bit boring - think Libras has a little too much time on her hands.
Thanks for your input MarkPT, i'm sure it is much appreciated by many Mnetters! zzzzz.....

janx · 16/04/2009 18:54

wow - this was intended as a thread to support each other - not a slanging match. Still interested in finding a workable plan that doesn't make me feel like I can't eat anything

callanetics was the only thing that worked for me. Tried all sorts before that. Didn't lose any weight, just toned up in the right places. Tummy now pretty good for saying I've had 2 x 9lbs babies, 1 c-section, 1 umbilical hernia op, 1 x appendix op in the last 3.5 yrs.
