Lighter Life and Family Life- can they mix?

I am considering trying Lighter Life but am concerned about how I manage cooking for family (DH and DD's 8&4)and also how I explain why I am not eating food to my girls. Mind you, 4 year old DD has been making some barbed comments about my weight lately anyway.
Does anybody have experience of doing Lighter Life and providing for a family at the same time? I would love to hear your experiences.

hi

me and dh did cambridge (same as LL in that you dont eat food) 2 summers ago and we are going back on it next week to lose the last stone. I would totally reccomend the diet although it is not easy and you really cannot cheat at all and get away with it like you may be able to on ww or sw.

RE: the family cooking, I make up lots of freezer food in small portions, I found cooking hard because of the smell so to make loads up in advance helped.

I think your children are old enough to be tod the truth about the diet. That mummy is fed up of being overwight and wants to be able to run around more and play with them more and that these drinks are instead of meals until you have lost some wieght.

I don't know how overwieght you are but you are obviously unhappy to think of trying LL. Really push the fact that it is to improve your health make you happier.

I have a couple of friends who have done LL while having a family. They have had to cookfor their kids but have found this fine once they have got into it.

and they ahve lost over 7 stone ewach so far!

gingernutlover · 08/04/2009 09:36

7 stone each WOW!

I am going for the last 1.5 stone but 7 is absolutely amazing, they must be whole new people

Thanks for your replies. Gingernut lover, I think the focus on health is a good one. DD4 made the comments about my size after health week at her nursery. I might just quote what you have said! I need to loose between 4 and 5 stone. I feel a bit like an acoholic but with food so I think doing without food might be a good break.
I also worry about what to say to friends when invited out. I never discuss my weight or dieting with them as they are all slim. It's a bit like my secret shame except the weight is rather hard to hide

I started the cambridge diet on Monday and cooking for DP and DS is tough, feeling fab today though. Go for it i say.

gingernutlover · 08/04/2009 14:11

with friends, some were unsupportive to begin with some were fab, one inparticular still to this day calls it that stupid diet you did! Hmmm well I'm the one who wieghs 3 stone less and she is as big as ever, yeah really stupid!

Just be honest with them, the real freinds will be fine about it with you, maybe concerned if anything, the ones that are not okay about it are probably either ignorant or jealous.

Within the first 2 weeks you will see a massive difference and need smaller clothes - thats what shuy most people up! Good luck if you do it - We are restarting next week so let me know what you decide, we could be buddies

gingernutlover · 08/04/2009 14:12

louii well done you, i remmeber the 1st week being the hardest.

newscot · 08/04/2009 16:33

I am going along to a LL info session this Saturday so will hear what they have to say. Half of me says go for it the other half is suspicious and thinks it cant last long term. Maybe I just have to stop being cynical and just give it a go. Would love to have you as a buddy gingernut if I do go through with this.

Thanks for support Gingernut, it is tough, as in i keep finding myself looking in kitchen cupboards etc but I can honestly say I am not hungry, just a case of breaking the habit.

Do Cambridge, its cheaper than LL and more choice with flavours etc, meant to taste a bit nicer as well.
Also think you have to sign up to Lighter life for a set time, with Cambridge if you start it and its not for you, no probs.

gingernutlover · 08/04/2009 20:05

oh and on cambridge you can get the shakes ready mixed in little cartons - they are lovely, especially if you leave them in the friedge beforehand, great for taking to work. AFAIK you cant get cartons on LL

hi, can I join? God I've joined every bloody weight loss club here!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway Ive got a lot too loose, Im a bit too ashamed to say how much but I need a drastic kick uo the backside, I have emailed a cambridge diet planner in my area and Im going to start it so gingernutlover and louii I'd love to help motivate each other.

Newscot, sorry to hijack your thread, I know it was about lighter life

I think Im finally ready to get on with it, although part of me feels embarrassed to tell people in real life what im doing although im hoping when the pounds start dropping off that will wear off. Anyway good luck to all and Ill keep my eye on this thread for next week.........

louii · 08/04/2009 21:51

Don't be embarrassed, i have 5 stones to shift.

I have found the more people i tell the more determined it has made me, like they are all watching now to see the weightloss and I cant back out of it.

Thats me got day 3 over with and honestly finding it a breeze, no hunger whatsoever and I would have been always nibbling on something.

gingernutlover · 09/04/2009 07:52

well done on you louii - I am really excited about startign againa nd seeing those lb's drop off but also scared cos I knwo the first few days are hard.

I remember getting some negative comment last time when i first started and got embarassed so i wore quite loose clothes for a few weeks and it also fell over the summer holidays when I am not at work - the look on peoples faces when i turned up to the first day of school in tight black trousers - ha! to all those who were negative cos

I gto lovely comments for weeks. The only person who never said anything nice is my friend who is about 10 stones verwieght and I reckon she was just jealous that she wasn't on the plan too.

flourybaps · 09/04/2009 11:45

Well have contacted cambridge diet advisor and have an appointment for tuesday so Im going to enjoy the bank holiday weekend and then get serious!

Wonder if I should start a seperate thread for cambridge diet followers?

Anyway goodluck over the weekend girls.

Pinkjenny · 09/04/2009 11:48

I am starting on Saturday. Picked a tough weekend to start, eh??

flourybaps · 09/04/2009 13:18

well pinkjenny if you can get through this weekend then it should be a breeze after that!

I suppose any weekend is tough really, good luck with it.
