My Juicing Diary: Lose Seven Pounds in Seven Days with Jason Vale

Right! I was up at the buttcrack of dawn to drink my lemon and hotwater and start my juicing for the day... which went great. I had two different clients to see today, back to back, so had to pack my juicer and blender and all ingredients to take with me... doubled the first recipe as I was meant to drink one at 8am and the other at 11am.

But I put waaayyy to much supplements in it and could only drink half of the first one... what a shame.

But the Super Chute and the one after that was really tasty! I never knew beetroot could be so damn good!

I've had four fruit teas and a bottle of water in addition to my juices and smoothies. So far, so good. I came off caffiene last week so I could take tablets for my headache and am feeling a wee bit smug for making that good decision.

Only feeling sad as I arrived home to DH cooking a piece of organic veal we purchased at farmers market this weekend... and then he finished it off with a Magnum ice cream... I just had to go upstairs! Also, I haven't had time to fit any exercise in today. I will phone tomorrow and try to get an appointment for a wax so I can go swimming. I'm only seeing one client in the afternoon tomorrow, so will go for a run/walk around the water park before heading off.

Watching with interest

nappyaddict · 02/03/2009 23:58

Have you seen this thread

wabbit · 02/03/2009 23:58

well, good luck with the juicing!

Interested in your caffiene statement, so, it can give you headaches when you go cold turkey and stop drinking tea/coffee, eating chocolate etc

Can it make your legs ache too... like in the bones?
I did the caffiene thing on friday - not had so much as a sniff of coffee since - was totally dibilitated by headaches and joints/limbs aching all over the weekend - this morning had to take flu remedy just to be able to work.

HolyGuacamole · 03/03/2009 12:42

That's a great thread nappyaddict!!

Day Two:

Woke up a wee bit late but couldn't wait for my first juice of the day! Added only a very little bit of wheatgrass supplement as I was keen to avoid another accident like yesterday. Yummy!

Hosted a lovely homebirth group at my local SureStart and drank my green mid-morning juice, much to the surprise by everyone there. They just couldn't believe it tasted as nice as it did.

Had to head off to work at 1, so juiced my 2 and 5pm juices and packed them in flasks. My 2pm juice was made with beetroot again and it is just so delicious! I probably drank that quicker than I should and I was disappointed that it was all gone and I didn't bring my juicer to make more.

But not to fear as my 5pm juice was just as nice... even in horrific M60 traffic. Collected kids and headed home where I was asked to make cheese on toast for supper... My favourite! I kept telling myself that I COULD have it but I DIDN'T WANT IT. Instead, I had two cashew nuts and that very surprisingly made my tummy happy. I actually felt my stomach working to break the cashews down... it's the weirdest thing!

But as I type this I am absolutely knackered! I went out to exercise for about 45 minutes this afternoon with my little charges... played tig in the rain... it was great fun and a great way to exercise... but I hate always be it. Nevermind.

So tomorrow Luca, my son, is in hospital for his tonsillectomy. I bought an extra flask today that I was juice my morning juice in, but have also packed my juicer and blender to take with us to hospital as it's an overnight stay and I don't want to give up now... My DH claims that I look like I've lost weight, but I think he's just being polite as AF arrived today and I got a spot.

Probably won't be able to post tomorrow but will keep you updated on how things are going on Thursday.

Nappyaddict: Yes, have seen that post, which really helped me decide to go ahead with this.

Wabbit: In my personal case, I hate having any headaches whatsoever, and usually when I detox I get a headache because I come off caffiene... I usually have a latte a day through the week and maybe two on weekends. Don't recall feeling achy, though, coming off it, just a bit of a headache that advil sorted within 20 minutes.

OK!! You have inspired me to start this juicing malarky

Am away out today to buy a juicer and a car load of fruit and veg. Am going to put a list of the fruit and veg needed for a week on the other thread that nappyaddict mentioned below.

Good luck Bonita, keep it up!!

robin3 · 04/03/2009 15:38

On day 2 and have to admit I'm struggling more that I thought I would...not so much hunger, although a little light-headed, more the boredom of having all my eating and drinking daily highlights removed. Small things in life like a cup of tea, make such a difference to the day.

Going to plough on though....it's actually been so difficult so far, there is no way that I'm going to waste what I've already achieved. The weekend will help as the last phase I think because I'm not office bound.

HolyGuacamole · 04/03/2009 16:59

Come on Robin, keep your chin up girl!!

robin3 · 04/03/2009 17:30

My Boss, who did this a few weeks ago reassured me that it was a weight loss miracle and that tomorrow will be the 'high' day, plus looked ahead and saw the introduction of banana and yoghurt in to the plan which will feel more like food.
Back in the zone.

mrsmaidamess · 04/03/2009 17:40

Can I ask a question? Won't you just put 7 lbs back on once you've finished the juicing and return to normal food? Or are you doing it to lose weight for a special event and just need a quick fix?

nappyaddict · 04/03/2009 19:00

I have had two attempts at this. My first failed because I kept thinking one little bit of this or that wouldn't hurt in a whole day. My body was still used to me snacking on something and so was still craving and so i would give in and have something. It was a vicious circle. On my second attempt I craved something for probably the first 3 days but this time I didn't give in. I went completely cold turkey. Then honestly after 3 days I didn't really crave anything at all. If I did I would eat a tiny bit of fruit or raw veg instead. I found I actually started craving fruit and vegetables not crisps and chocolates. I made sure I kept all junk food out of sight and didn't buy any new stuff at all.

I didn't put the weight back on only over Xmas when I pigged out massively. It's a lifestyle change. You can do it for a quick fix but if you go back to your old eating habits then you'll put the weight back on. If you want the weight to stay off you need to change your eating habits for good.

These are my personal golden rules which I based loosley on Jason Vale's principals:

A) Only snack on fruit/veg/natural yogurt
B) Try to not eat anything after about 5pm (i have to stretch this a little bit cos don't always manage to have dinner at 5pm)
C) Drink 3 litres of water a day
D) Eat crackers or pitta breads for a quick lunch.
E) Eat lots of soup or chicken and fish with vegetables/salad/rice.
F) Think about the ratio of what you put on your plate. 60-80% of what you eat should consist of high water content foods - fruit, vegetables, juices, smoothies and soups. Only the remainder should be made up of fish, chicken, rice, bread, potatoes, nuts, seeds, pulses and dairy.
G) Buy yourself a small dinner plate (or larger dessert plate). I now eat all my meals off a 9 inch plate so I don't overeat.

HolyGuacamole · 04/03/2009 20:42

Nappy - Have you been exercising too?

NeedCoffee · 04/03/2009 21:45

am watching this thread with interest as i am going to try it-first diet type thing i'm ever going to have done in 27 years, so i have to work myself up to it..

HolyGuacamole · 04/03/2009 22:42

Good one Bonita, you'll need to let us know how you get on tomorrow!

Mrsmaidamess - it says that if you do the 7 days then go straight back to eating junk then you will put the weight back on. Jason Vale talks about a total change in your eating, much like what nappyaddict is saying.

I'm going to start tomorrow and hope that it will put me off my bad habits, like crisps and overloading my dinner plate.

I made a juice earlier to try it out and it was really gorgeous. The smell was amazing when it was juicing. My 'last supper' today was a Zinger Tower Burger from KFC

Roll on tomorrow

robin3 · 05/03/2009 14:28

How's everyone getting on. Bonita?

I'm now on day 3 and having my afternoon low. Mornings and evenings are fine but the afternoons are hard. Can feel clothes are looser though and other than a strange feeling in my hips that has been with me since I started (!) I feel fine.

ihatethecold · 05/03/2009 15:21

just a tip ladies.. to save loads of money on the extra fruit and veg you will need to buy, go to aldi,,its a bargain and the quality is just as good, pineapples are a quid etc..

spokette · 06/03/2009 09:50

Just seen this thread. Well done ladies on getting started with this. I can testify that juicing will change your eating habits permanently if you commit to it.

I lost nearly 20lb and have not put it back on again except over Christmas when I put on 5lb but lost it all again when I juiced for a week. My cousin has lost nearly 2.5 stones too.

I have so much more energy too. I do Bodycombat twice a week, Bodypump once a week, gym once a week and run 3-5miles once a week! Bodycombat is really energetic and I am proud of the fact that at 44yo, I am actually fitter than many of those in their 20s who attend.

If anyone is interested, Aldi are currently selling a whole fruit juicer for £29.99. I bought one last week and it is superb. My only complaint is that it is a bit noisy but then so was the other juicer that I was using. The Aldi juicer extracts much more juice than my old one did and it is very easy to clean.

I also agree with ihatethecold, buy your fruit and veg from Aldi!

ihatethecold · 06/03/2009 09:58

went to aldi to look for juicer yesterday but they didnt have any

spokette · 06/03/2009 10:10

My Aldi has sold out too!

nappyaddict · 07/03/2009 09:15

TJ Hughes have them for £14.99. If you don't have one near you then you can buy it online but not sure how much P&P is.

nappyaddict · 07/03/2009 09:16

BTW spokette which juicer did you have before?

NeedCoffee · 07/03/2009 18:09

They have the Ainsley Harriot one for £39.99 at Nettos atm, don't know what its like as i haven't got round to opening it yet!
