oh.
well just go and try something new then and forget the diet for one night.

(and avoid coconut based curries like thai green and red).

Pad Thai is usually a good bet, it is stir-fried but they don't use all that much oil. The curries are lethal as they generally have loads of coconut milk, although some restaurants do a jungle curry which is like a red or green curry but without the coconut milk. There is usually some sort of steamed or baked fish dish available, but I'm not so keen on that.

Have boiled rice, not coconut or fried rice, with it and perhaps some sort of green veg like morning glory.

Obviously you won't need rice if you're having the Pad Thai (my personal favourite btw) as that's noodles. Sorry if I'm stating the obvious, I just didn't want you to end up with a carb overload.

If you're going out with friends what I imagine will probably happen is that they will all order the most fattening dishes possible and then nick most of your pad thai leaving you with no choice but to have some of the high-fat stuff.

You want summat like a sweet/sour beef salad.
