..and nor was i sure where to post this!

Apologies in advance as this may be rambly but i can't ask anyone in RL without getting jumped on

I have recently lost some weight yet feel i need and want to lose more. A friend disagrees and thinks i have lost too much BUT i can still see areas that need improving (little more loss here and there and general toning). There are some pics of me appeared on FB whre i thought i looked alright ish but i can see where my muffin top is and the way my bra digs in my back so it podges out, i can also see my stomach and to me, it looks all bloaty.

SO i guess what i am asking is how can i make her see what i can see and that what i can see IS real not just me making it up !!

do what makes you happy and leave your friend to her own opinion

well done on your weight loss by the way, it might be that you need to do exercise to help these last couple of bits rather than eating less.

might be completely on the wrong track but make sure your clothes, esepcially bras fit you correctly, ill fitting clohtes are not flattering

whitenoise · 08/02/2009 14:20

i do value her opinion though, she is very honest and i don't have any other RL friends like that (not many RL friends actually)

i just don't know how to make her see properly without making it sound like i have a bizarre eating "thing" lol!(which i don't!)

agree with gingernutlover - bits that seem flabby or still in need of atention often simply need toning rther than more weight loss and bras in particular can alter the way you look dramatically! I've lost half a stone in weight recently but despite being lighter I actually look flabbier because my skin needs toning up to match the new weight! Does that make sense?! Congrats on the weight loss - don't let you friend get to you but also don't get obssessed with losing more weight if in fact it's the toning you need to focus on!

whitenoise · 08/02/2009 14:25

i do need to lose a couple more lbs but toning up will do that hopefully!

Thank you - think i was getting too hung up on it!

I suppose the best way to convince her would be to use an objective measurement like BMI. Unless you're very muscly/athletic you can see what your healthy weight is for your height.

Of course, it's not really any of her business unless she is genuinely concerned for your health.

If your weight puts you near the bottom of the healthy BMI range then you may need to consider that your friend is right.

You don't say how long ago you lost your weight, or whether you exercise. I have lost 3 stone and find that my main body shape changes happen months after the actual weight loss, and that exercise has a big effect as well.

gingernutlover · 08/02/2009 14:25

oh dear, now that somone else mentioned the exercise it meansd thats the answer for me too :-( ha ha

have you worked out your bmi by the way whitenoise?

Flamesparrow · 08/02/2009 14:27

but a lot of the time the version of us we see (even in photos) isn't the real version because we are women and skew things

dearprudence · 08/02/2009 14:30

X-post whitenoise. If you only want to lose a couple of pounds then..

  1. that won't make much difference to things like muffin tops and bra sausages. Better fitting clothes are the answer.
  1. your friend doesn't need to be concerned because a few pounds is neither here nor there unless you're already underweight

and 3. I mean this kindly, but you possibly are obsessing a bit too much - nobody can achieve perfection!

I bet you look great. Photos can catch you at unflattering angles that don't reflect how you really look at all.

whitenoise · 08/02/2009 14:31

I do know my BMI - she doesn't, nor does she know my actual weight. She hasn't asked, its not a secret or anything (well not to her lol!)

i don't really exercise, i do about 20 mins each day on teh wii fit but that doesn't really count does it?!

Have lost the weight steadily since DS3 was bron - he is 11months. probably about 2.5 stone (some which i still had from DS2)

whitenoise, I am tempted to try pilates after I heard somewhere that it is briiliant for pinging your body back into shape after kids

peachface · 08/02/2009 14:51

I've done pilates and it's incredible - I didn't manage to do it very ong due to a house move BUT my firend has been doing it for ages and she is really toned now! All about strengthening your core stability!

whitenoise · 08/02/2009 17:00

I have a yogalates video somewhere with a resistance band somewhere. Will give that a go - thank you
