Apparently no matter what we do, we have a genetically pre-determined weight why are thin people not fat?

How depressing for us chubsters.

yes dh and I watched it.
dh is one of those who stays thin. I, ahem, am not.
I say it was having dd that really did for me though (she was worth it of course)!

Didn't see it - but I'd say that statement is rubbish!

I have recorded it. Am quite interested in watching it because I am one of those annoying skinny people who have trouble putting weight on. I have never been on a diet in my life, it wouldn't even occur to me. I eat what I want, according to my appetite. That includes biscuits and crips etc as well as healthy stuff. I'd never deprive myself of anything I wanted. Hardly put on anything when pregnant but ate like a pig. When I'm ill for a couple of days and don't eat, the weight drops off me, and I struggle to put it on again - it takes weeks, even when my appetite is back to normal. My 5 year old son is looking like he's the same build as me - he actually looks skeletal and is becoming aware of this and really making an effort to eat more, but sometimes it seems he eats so much, but he just hardly puts any weight on. So where do all the extra calories go? That's what that programme was asking.

Now I'm a bit ashamed to say this, but because I eat what I like and have a normal appetite, I always tend to look at overweight people and think to myself "Well, you MUST be over-eating on the quiet! That's the only explanation."

Having read an article advertising this programme, it seems that actually, people DO have a natural weight that their body tries to maintain no matter what they do.

Not good news for anyone really, overweight or underweight - I hate being skinny. On weight-height charts I do actually come in at just on the "ideal weight range" (lower end of it) but I have stick arms and stick legs, no boobs (belly sticks out further than them - not a good look!), and a non-existent arse. I don't look womanly. The worst thing is trying to find knee-high boots and skinny jeans to fit, I've given up. If I do go through a phase where my calorie intake is higher than normal eg drinnking lots of alcohol or something, it goes on a bit of a beer belly, and I don't put weight on anywhere else. Still got the bony legs and arms.....

It seems no=one's happy with their weight. But at least that programme seems to suggest that there's not much we can do with it. So at least I can tell those rude people who have said to me in the past "You're too skinny - you need to put on a bit of weight" to fuck off. I'd never dream of telling them they needed to lose weight so why is it fine to tell someone they need to put it on?

Anyway.......rant over. I'm just annoyed I went shopping yesterday and couldn't find any boots that fit me.........or jeans......

Thanks for the rant Curly. Saved me writing much the same things! I'd love to be able to buy clothes easily too. I agree, people think it's fine to be really rude just because we're skinny.
