i have just left ww after losing a few pouinds before xmas and putting them back on again. I couldnt stand the leader and found the meetings very boring. I find counting points etc simply makes me obsess and think about food so much it messes with my brain.

So, my new plan is to stop eating snacks, try to do a bit more exercise and lose a little bit at a time until I am happier with my wieght/appearance.

Has anyone tried this, did it work?

Anyone fancy doing the same thing and buddying me?

Walking sounds like a good trade off!! I've managed to walk 5 out of 6 trips to school so far this week. I did give-in today and got a lift after I'd scoffed 5 chocolate cookies!

I forget! I'm so used to eating when I'm not doing anything else and it's a hard habit to break! I had been really good and hadn't bought any crap food for a couple of weeks but couldn't resist the biscuits on offer in M&S today. I'll hide the rest until my friends come on the weekend!!

I, too, crash out on the sofa after ds has gone to bed and find it really difficult to motivate myself to do anything constructive. I might try and do my exercise dvd tonight. I managed to get into bed at 9pm last night (unheard of for me!) and read for a while. I think the earlier I go to bed the less likely I am going to be looking for snacks!!

Wow, bed at 9pm. Do you feel remarkably well rested and energetic this morning?

Half my trouble is that I go to bed too late. I keep reading how not having enough sleep mess with your hormones which makes you hungrier, not just that you have more time to snack. Sleep seems like a great plan. Problem is, I love my child-free evenings!!

Have a good day.

Sorry I finished my last post too soon!

I was going to sympathise with the forgetting too. I suppose that is the key to being a slim person - you need to reprogramme yourself so that if you do forget where you are, the inclination isn't to eat biscuits but to eat grapes or an apple or something. It is changing the habits of a very long time that is the hard bit.

Well, done for walking to school so much. We, unfortunately, live right next to the school so the walk is about 3 minutes, tops (unless you have to coax a 5 yr old and then it takes ages) so it is never going to be a big feature of my exercise plan, sadly. I did have great plans to go and pick the boys up by going the long way round, after DS2 started school in September. I haven't even managed that once yet and it isn't even that much further.

I think I might be getting used to my new way of eating!! I don't seem to crave sweet stuff all the time (although I did have some chocolate after lunch today). Monday seems to be my off day.

I did my exercise dvd on Thursday night. I managed just under an hour. One of the sections was the "thigh buster". I knew as I was doing it that I was going to suffer afterwards. Friday I was a bit stiff but Saturday was torture!!! Finally, today I feel almost normal again. Will stick to the abs section next time!!! Might try and do an hour tonight - it'll help to keep warm!!

Hi, may I join you? I'm in process of shifting some weight but also didn't want to go down route of w/w, s/w or other costly regimes! I've lost 5lbs in the last 6 wks from cutting my portion sizes, adding extra exercise to my daily routine and following the Hay diet (not a "diet" but a way of eating that I find stops me feeling bloated) - by not eating proteins at the same meal as carbs and vice versa I find I'm eating tons more fruit and veg without even having to think about it much! I've got ds 4yrs and ds 18mths so haven't got time to be making different meals for everyone so this way I can eat with everyone and smply substitute the potatoes/pasta/rice with extra veg if I'm eating meat or fish or the protein aspect of the meal with extra veg if I'm having a carbohydrate-based meal of pasta etc. I have found I have loads more energy and don't get that bloated feeling after a good meal!! Really recommend it if you get a heavy feeling after eating or if you want to feel more energised! Something drastic has happened to my mental view of eating because I've not had any chocolate for over a month now and I don't miss it nor have any urge to have any!?? (How weird is that!!!Believe me, the idea of not having choccie is not one I would usually associate with me!) Would be nice to have others to chat to who are also shifting the weight!

Hi Peachface!! Well done on losing 5lb! I think everyone has abandoned this thread!! I'm still trying to eat more sensibly but have had a crazy week this week so have been comfort eating quite a bit. I'm off to stay with some friends tomorrow so will make a big effort on Monday to get into a good eating routine.

My attitude to food has had a dramatic shift aswell. Things I wouldn't think twice about eating are now off limits because of their lack of nutritional value. I think I'm getting a bit ott with it but trying to be sensible!!

Not mixing carbs and protein sounds interesting. What kind of meals do you have when eating carbs and no protein?
