I really need to do some excercise to help shift my flab , does anyone have a good DVD? I am very unfit btw.

Also if you excercise regularly, how do you find the time? I love swimming but never have time to go which is why I am thinking a dvd of some kind may be better to fit in.

i have the charlie brookes one
its been out a year or 2, but i really like it
i think you can still get it in the shops
i do it when i get back from the school run,

I do Davina's old one (30 minute workouts) it is currently shifting my baby weight for the second time. I do it 3 times a week while dd has her nap in the morning, it only takes 30 minutes (hence the name!) and then 5 to shower, then I am all done.

I also do pilates dvd's when I want to unwind usually at the weekend and I get dp to take the dc's out for and hour or so, so I can do it in peace.

SammyK · 14/01/2009 09:47

I was thinking actually that a less new one wouldn't break the bank so much (skint).

The only way I have managed to exercise regularly is to walk to school with dc then go on straight out after that for a run/brisk walk. It's the only thing I've found that works for me.

Joining gyms, promising myself to go swimming later, going to aerobics classes ...nope it never gets fitted in. Probably because I don't naturally gravitate towards exercise anyway and can find endless reasons not to be there doing what I promised myself I would. The whole rigmarole of packing a gym bag, getting there, damp towels...nah the novelty wears off v v fast with me.

But this way I am already out and just keep on going. It takes about an hour out of the day and gets it done early on. It's cheap too and nice if you take some music or radio with you

Try it, you'll feel great and it clears your mind.

I am not super fit or anything btw! That post made me sound like an Olympic runner. Hahaha...not me!

Wintersun · 14/01/2009 10:03

Have a look at Tae-bo. The 1st one is 1/2 an hour and is really good. Its an intro one so its not too taxing with simple kicking and punching moves but still gives a good workout. Mine was fairly cheap on Amazon.

I can fit it in on the weekends ok and sometimes do it around 8 when the dss are in bed.

Also, if you have Sky, try the Body in Balance channel They have some work outs on that. The Bollywood one is fun

Walking. Get a pedometer and/or set yourself a distance or amount of time you are going to walk for each day. It's a fabulous introduction to getting fit. I've been walking an hour a day for the last week no problem and have lost 4lbs this week - and feel so much more energetic. I can also fit it in wherever I can, but I plan my walk a day ahead so I have some kind of routine.

It's also good for the mind - I feel more positive and less lethargic and stressy about things. And so much more energising than those DVDs where they claim you'll look like a skinny celeb from doing a DVD every day when you know the celeb has been with a personal trainer for 2 hours a day, 7 days a week!

I do enjoy walking, at the moment I work mornings but in feb I won't be, so could take DS to preschool and then go for a brisk walk with music. Sounds good and it's free!

I am a lazy mare really, it's the getting there/preparing that puts me off, especially as I don't hae transport.
Think I will stick with free excercise outdoors!

I decided last Autumn that I needed to do some exercise, I am not really the sporty type but I do like dance. I don't enjoy traditional aerobics and was pretty unfit. I would recommend Rosemary Conley's salsacise DVDs - especially if you are very unfit, as there is a 20 min workout and a 30 min one, so you can do the shorter one to build up fitness, and it makes you sweat. Slim & Salcasise is the best one in my opinion, but Shape Up & Salsacie and the GI jeans workout DVD are also good.

Good Luck!

i walk to and from school everyday and its bout 1 1/2 miles from my house and some times i walk to town and thats bout 2 1/2 miles from me but all thats done is give me a tight bum and its my belly i want to lose i would like to start running or swimming but have no1 to look after ds as mu df is at work allday ..

hertsnessex · 14/01/2009 10:44

I vary what i do from a cpl of mile run, davina dvd, swim, walk dog in forest for 2hrs, its fitting in it to your life that then doesnt make it seem a chore.

I have done my DVD when boys are playing - they think its hilarious! me and DH will take kids swimming and ill get a few lngths in then, and ill run when dh here at the weekend or when boys are at school/preschool. Just walking the dog is good exercise especially up and down hills and rough terrain.

i do something every other day at least just to make me feel alive!!!

MrsMattie · 14/01/2009 10:46

I'm REALLY lazy, too. But once I start walking I don't mind it, especially if you bring your IPOD/walkman. I quite look forward to it now.

SammyK · 14/01/2009 10:57

Yes I like dancing and swimming (also cycling but no bike at mo), and enjoy them, but never seem to get around to them . .

ELR · 14/01/2009 11:48

davina one is brill but be warned i was sick after doing it the first time after having ds. i had done it loads after dd and was fine, was still breast feeding at the time so maybe thats why.
Also charlie brooks one is good

JiminyCricket · 05/02/2009 17:19

Haven't read the other posts - This is how I do it.
I run, fit it into when my partner is around and i can get out the door, very flexible and I love it. Also I started to do a few sit ups/ hand weight exercises, and press ups about three times a week - I do them while the kids are in the bath, or just before I get in bed, or with the kids before bed sometimes. Instead of going mad and doing them every day, i find I tone up brilliantly by doing them alternate days. I run alongside my dd1 when she rides her bike out on family walks. Also do a circuits class one evening, and if I miss a run I'll do a half hour 'circuit' of my own at home in front of the tv in the back room - so say last night I did a pyramid circuit

  1. 15 step ups
  2. 15 step ups plus 15 sit ups
  3. 15 step ups, 15 sit ups, 15 skipping
then on and on adding press ups, hand weight exercises, leg raises etc etc. Start steady, but as long as it gets your heart rate up, and you alternate more energetic exercise with 'recovery periods' doing the toning exercises, its works great for your fitness. Its great if you can get the kids activites to fit with yours - so say, while they do swimming lessons, you swim, or gymnastics, you go for a run. Start small though or its guaranteed to go out of the window in two weeks max!
