After two children (and ds was a big baby) - I really think I need to do something. My big problem area is well my stomach. I have a bad back which restricts what I can do exercise wise (but think I use that as an excuse too ). Have gone back to work and I really have started feeling unhappy about my figure.
I have had a pretty rubbish year- my dad died and have looked to food for comfort...need to loose about a stone and a half - can anyone give me some advice?

I sympathise Janx, on all fronts. sometimes you need food as well as other things for comfort. thinking through excuses (although I'd be kinder to yourself and thinking of them as reasons) and finding other ways of dealing with them might be a start.

on food front. I am still losing weight but find the GI Diet method excellent. for xmas got the Leon cookbook which is excellent (certainly their restaurants/cafes rule) and is very GI-minded. Lots of walking - good for spirit/environment too. Drinking water. There's a book called Lose your mummy tummy which i've also found helpful.

but I am still very much on the journey - still am quite a big mamma myself.

try to be nice to yourself, dress well (Trinny and Susanna style) get a nice haircut and you'll feel better and more motivated. don't starve yourself of feel sad whatever you do

Right there with you janx. DD was born almost 13 months ago and I am still at least 2 stone heavier than I was pre-baby and can only fit into one pair of trousers!! My tummy is awful -no structure and all wrinkly, it is v depressing. I saw myself in a changing room mirror this afternoon and could have wept.

It's my b-day in jan and I am thinking of asking everyone to contribute to a 'bike' fund so i c an save for one with a little seat for dd (if it's safe to put her in one - haven't researched that yet).

I have also had a hard year and it has been difficult to muster energy for looking after myself properly but I do not want to live with my awful tum any longer and I know exercising will make me look and feel so much better!
