losing weight - what to eat to avoid getting shaky?

I'm hoping there's someone out there who is similar to me; I do need to lose some weight but my trouble with this is that whenever I don't eat regularly or enough, I get REALLY shaky, I think this is called Hypoglycemia?

Have tried numerous diets etc, - sensible ones, not starving myself; but I just find that I end up getting the shakes and it's just not practical for me to go round feeling like that. I have a full time job and it's really hectic and stressful and then when I'm home it's straight into making the dinner and getting DS to bed.

So my trouble is finding stuff to eat that will be filling enough to stop the shakes. Or is this kind of thing actually treatable - anything available from the Dr's??!!

Thanks in advance.

Complex carbohyrdates are the key, I believe: wholemeal foods, oats. These allow for a slow release of energy, which should prevent you getting the shakes.

So, porridge for breakfast, or wholemeal toast (maybe with peanut butter)

Wholemeal pastas and rice.

HTH.

Research the GI diet online, you will probably get helpful advice

OK thanks! Will look up the GI diet. Have heard of it.

Wholemeal toast with peanut butter sounds yummy!

If you can, get 'real' peanut butter from a healthfood shop: they blitz up only peanuts, with no added salt or fat. Mmmmm!

I will certainly try - that sounds gorgeous. We had a little health food shop in our high street until recently but it closed Such a shame. Nearest one is MILES away now...I wish these little shops could survive...

i've been looking up the GI diet so thanks for the tip podrick - it looks good. I know for me work is the problem - I am out and about on visits and there are not enough hours in the day so unless I take good food with me the temptation is to stop at a shop and of course all you can get there is snadwiches full of fat and additives etc and then I'm hungry and shaky two hours later anyway. I am going to have to make a Low GI lunch box to take with me..

I have the same problem - and sandwiches (especially white bread ones) unfailingly make me feel ill at around 4pm!

Keeping your blood glucose stable is the key and it needs a bit of organising and forward thinking to achieve! I also find that exercise affects my glucose levels so I need to time my eating right to cope with this.

IF I am dieting then increasing the protein in my diet works well for me. HTH!
