Jumping the gun abit but I am having a frosty implanted around Feb I hope and have been pregnant 3 times before.
The first and second time I put 5 stone on each time but lost it within 3 months.
The third time I put just 2 stone on, lost 1 stone of it straight away but have yo yo'd ever since, I have a good three months and then it creeps back up.
I don't care if I'm never 10 stone again tbh but would like to stay the right side of 11 so I wondered if there was anything at all I could do about controlling weight whilst pregnant.
I didn't do anything differently the third time apart from chasing after toddlers I guess.

I'm no expert Katie but I think you need to put a fair amount of weight on to have a healthy pregnancy - not just the baby, placenta, waters etc but also increased blood flow and some stores of fat to get you through the birth and the first few months.

I remember reading that 2.5 stones for the average woman is about right so 2 stones during your last pregnancy was fine.

I'd suggest you follow the principles of a healthy balanced diet with fruit, veg, wholegrains and protein and try not to hit the junk carbs too much (easier said than done when you have morning sickness!). I got some good books out of the library about nutrition in pregnancy with suggestions for snacks etc which would also be useful for after the birth.

Oh and all the best for February, fingers crossed for you!

I heard an article on radio 4 about 10 days ago about childhood obesity. There is a lot of serious research that suggests that one of the reasons why so many of our children are having weight problems these days (apart from TV, crisps etc) is that many expectant mothers try to limit the amount of weight they gain during pregnancy. This can have an impact on the developing metabolism of the baby, which has permanent effects - ie they will always have a sluggish metabolism.

Sorry I can't point you to any of the actual research, but I'm sure radio 4's site will have more details. I think it may have been on women's hour.

Good luck for Feb, but don't be too hard on yourself in the weight stakes
