I don't really clip my ped on in the house anymore as it is very inaccurate. It counts 2 or 3 steps for each one I actually take. However, when I'm outside and actually walking at a steady pass, it is very accurate. I'm a bit annoyed at this but I'll hold off buying a better one until we're back from holiday in March. I probably won't post any totals until then as I can only do half weeks. Good luck to everyone else this week.

Can you believe I dropped my ped in the loo today?! It is now sitting on the heater, drying out. I wonder if this will make its readings more accurate, ha ha!

Posey · 10/02/2005 20:21

Hope your pedometer recovers very soon!

Anyone else surprised by how low their totals are?
I would have said I walked a lot, rarely taking the car as its easier than driving round here. But I was surprised my totals weren't higher. So am making more of an effort and actually doing some walks for the sake of walking.

Earlybird · 10/02/2005 20:30

Yes Posey, I do wonder why my totals aren't higher. I have to make a huge effort to get 10,000 steps a day. I think my highest week ever was almost 90,000 during the summer when the weather was gorgeous.

mothernature and yoyo - let us in on your secrets for how you get such high totals? Do you walk hours every day? Maybe I should get a big dog who needs to go for lots of long walks!

Dingle · 10/02/2005 20:58

This is my first week, and I have just managed to hit my 10k each day. ON the days my dd is at mainstream nursery, I think it should be achievable as I walk to the school drop off ds, walk to the nursery, drop dd off, walk home. I walk back at midday to pick dd up, and back again at 3pm to collect ds!!
On the days she attends SN nursery, I think I will struggle as I have to drive dd and we only walk to school once to collect ds at 3pm!!

I have just found myself stepping up and down the step in the hall and jogging round the house to hit the 10k. Feel shattered now-time for a glass of wine!!
At least it has given me the motivation I needed,as the thought of running on the treadmill is just not very appealing ATM!

I feel so useless just recently as my total rarely gets above 4,000 - and thats after running around after 3 boys under 6. School and nursery are both too far to walk to and the baby hasn't been very well so we've not been out much.

I managed a good weekend last year - 25,000 & 18,00 step but nothing much more than 4,000 since.

Sorry!!!!!!

yoyo · 10/02/2005 21:48

Earlybird - just counted steps from my bedroom to kitchen and it is 40. I am up and down stairs all day as living room is upstairs and constantly chase DS around. I also walk older children to and from school each day which is about 4 miles in total. I take DS out for a walk daily too. I think I am a bit of a fidget and find sitting down difficult (mainly because DS sees this as a cue to climb all over me). My days are fairly similar as are my daily totals. I suppose I do have fairly active days really and the school thing is a major part of my daily total (much lower on a SAt).

Don't be discouraged by your totals as you seem to be doing well. Keep it up!!

SeaShells · 12/02/2005 11:11

Just got my first pedemeter, count me in your club! I'm busy walking around the house in it, can't believe how quickly it goes up Can't wait to see how many I actually do take each day, I seem to be piling on the weight lately, always do over the winter!

MadameButterfly · 12/02/2005 12:12

Welcome SeaShell & mi55piggy.

I Look forward to receiving your results next week.
