I would think some of the vitamins get lost when they process the oats to make ready brek - so they add them. They process it to make it quick to prepare. I think the finished product would be same nutritionally, and kids are more likely to eat it. There's no sugar added to it. No nasties added at all.

on the bag of oats i buy from sainsbury's (about 80p) the only ingredient listed is: oats. i bet that's not the case in ready brek

Golden syrup is the best topping for porridge (the kind made with oats) You only need a teaspoonful, though!

I think they might have changed Ready Brek recently. There's no mention of wheat flour now. Just rolled oats, oatflour, calcium carbonate, and then the vitamins.

Evesmama · 08/02/2005 10:45

says oat flour on the box i have?

Yes, oat flour but not wheat flour like someone down the thread said. (think it used to have wheat flour). Weetabix took it over from Lyons. Perhaps they changed it. Anyway, I reckon its good. Two of my lot do well on it!

Maybe it has also something to do with digestion. As it would take longer to digest the whole oats than the readybrek?

And for those of you interested in these things, calcium carbonate is chalk....trust me I'm a science teacher

very very nice but normally made with sugar. have had it without sugar and it does taste nice, the texture is wonderful. Is cornmeal a good thing? not to sure.
