I have a chocolate addiction

I can't think of any other way of phrasing it. I truly believe my fixation with chocolate is not far off the equivalent of alcohol/gambling addictions.

It amazes me that people can just keep chocolate in their cupboard and just get on with life knowing its there. If I'm having any challenges, I think some chocolate later will make it better. Sometimes I think about cutting it completely and then I literally wonder if life would be completely joyless without it.

All sounds quite dramatic but I'm so fed up of thinking about it all of the time. Perhaps should have put this in health, but my dependence on chocolate is a big contributing factor in the 4 stone window I seem to have been bouncing around for the last decade.

Have you been through anything like this? What did you do?

I swapped mine for chocolate protein bars and got used to the less sugary taste, and it’s meant I’ve kept 9 stone off for 7 years. I couldn’t not have it at all as then I thought about it all the time and came off the wagon and binged.

Im 9 weeks in to cold turkey from chocolate because i was the same. Cadburys buttons and Tunnocks teacakes in particular were my catnip. One teacake is 106 cals so should have been fine as a snack but of course i eat the whole box of six everytime and it doesnt touch the sides. Im finding it ok, i crave badly at least one time a day but i manage to overcome it (so far!) Walking around the supermarket is the worst time for me, i just keep away from the chocolate and biscuit aisle but it is hard, im not going to lie.

i think counselling of some sort is the only way to address this issue .. we are often driven by our emotions .. many emotionally eat and also .. nutrition .. it’s all obvious with the latter but not easy and walking .. get walking if you are able with a walking buddy .. releases endorphins and all sorts of other benefits abut I think that counselling is one that many just don’t want to dip into .. I eat when I’m sad lonely etc … don’t keep treats in the house ..I have a cabinet with a lock and hubby hides the key for me .. 😆but I will reducing the treats to one in the house a day …

I was only really a Cadbury chocolate addict. In particular, Dairy Milk. But since Kraft got involved and the chunks became less square, more rounded and the price shot up, I barely eat it.

I stay away from the chocolate aisle because I only want it if I visually see it.

Just buy Hersheys. You won't ever touch chocolate
again!

Bleurgh. Hershey's is absolutely revolting, second that!

I haven't given up entirely, but, two weeks completely cold turkey acts as reset for me. But I have to give up everything, not just chocolate - all added sugar. first 3 days are the hardest, once I'm through that, I can avoid it without too much angst. I replace it with savoury treats - crisps, cheese - until I'm through the first 3 days, then it's a bit easier and I don't need to bribe myself.

I do eat chocolate occasionally, but for me, the more I have the more I want, and I can't have it regularly or it creeps up.

I used to eat soooooo much chocolate. I would sit and eat 5 Starbars in one sitting if I had them in the house. It was ridiculous.

I actually switched to having Galaxy hot chocolate. You make it with water, not milk, and it isn't as calorific. I have tried other hot chocolates and they didn't take the edge off, but the Galaxy extra frothy one worked for me. You feel like you are getting a treat still.

Mounjaro was the only thing that worked for me. Sounds stupid but I was (am) addicted to chocolate. Was the first thing I thought of when I woke up/before I went to bed, would beg borrow and steal to get it. Sneaking out to the shops and scoffing bars and bars in the car until I felt sick. All this ‘2 squares a day of dark chocolate’ drives me
crazy. Tried hypnotherapy / CBT / cold turkey etc etc. it’s an incredibly embarrassing way to live, never found anyone quite on the same level as me. Only found the ‘oh I ate 2 cream eggs in one sitting yesterday!’ people like that was a big deal. Am very secretive in real life and try to act normal, If my friends / family / husband / dr knew how much I was eating they would be horrified and I wouldn’t be able to be so sneaky, they would be aware of it. Anyway, mounjaro stopped it all for me. If that is an option for you to try.
