Cheaper alternative to WLI

Hi 👋
Just wanted to let people know about a cheaper option that WLI as they are quite expensive to some people. They are called mysimba. The most they can cost is 100 a month. So quite a but cheaper than WLI. They do have their pros and cons. Some people are fine on them some are not. Side effects were quite strong for me so I lowered the dose. And built up very slowly.

I lost fast to start with but its slowed right down now. I have lost just under 5 stone,so far.

That’s not cheaper than WLI (and your post looks like an ad).

Its not an add.
It is cheaper? As with mysimba is can't cost any more that 100 a month. With WLI the higher the dose the more it cost.

With shopping around for new customer discounts Wegovy is about the same price and doesn’t have as many contraindications as MySimba nor as many possible side effects. And it is significantly more effective. I’m sure there’s a place for MySimba but it’s not something that I would suggest unless there was a reason why Wegovy was not a possibility.

caefe · 20/07/2026 22:01

You haven’t said what ‘they’ are?

SilenceInside · 20/07/2026 22:07

@caefe MySimba is a weight loss tablet that contains two chemicals, naltrexone and bupropion, which affect appetite. It’s an older medication than the recent GLP1 injections and tablets, and works very differently.

I get that there are deals for people starting but the price still gos up and can become to much money for some people. Some people get on with them some don't. I have lost a stone 5 stone so they can work. There can be unpleasant side effects to start. Then it eases. But that also depends on the person.

I'm definitely glad I used them. I wouldn't have been able to afford WLI as the dose gets higher and I would have had to stop and wouldn't have lost what I have.

Deals are not just for those starting, anyone can get a new customer discount by changing pharmacies. Even if you don’t get a discount, the cheapest provider of Wegovy does the 2.4mg highest dose for £135 which is not a huge amount more than the £100 you mention for MySimba.

Average weight loss on MySimba is 5% of starting weight, compared to 14% on Wegovy injections.

I’m glad it’s working for you, but it’s still not something I would suggest over Wegovy given that Wegovy is comparable in price and three time more effective with less side effects and contraindications.

I get you to am extent. Yes i get the injections may be better. But your only a new customer for so long. And the price does go up.

I'm in mo way saying mysimba is better. But it can work. I can only go ftom my own experience. I have lost alost 5 stone. I won't be the only person who's lost quirk alot of weight on it.

I'm not shouting from the hill tops day dump your injections cone and take mysimba. Im jyst suggesting another option that maybe more affordable for some people. Or there could be other reasons.

Yes mysimb can have some side effdcts. But so do injections they both have a list of possible side effdcts.

Its not a competition snd which one is the best. I'm just saying there are othet choices rather than justinjections if for what ever reason they can't use the injection.. I'f my income was better I myself would probably choose injections. But I'm not in work so financially mysimba works for me.

Sorry for typos/spelling is csn hardly see the letters

Well it is a competition really as is any consumer choice. £100 for a moderately effective medication or £200 for a much more powerful one.
Personally I’d do 6 months on a GLP. Better value in the long run. Well done on your weight loss.

But there is literally hundreds of pharmacies op. You can switch as you please to get discounts, if you wish you can always be a new customer or returning one with some pharmacy or another.

the reason my Simba didn’t take off is due to the huge side effects, you can’t take opioid painkillers, it can significantly increase blood pressure , can increase the risk of seizures, and about half the people who tried it had to stop due to the unpleasant side effects, huge drop out rate.

it also has very moderate weight loss.

‘it’s fab it works for you, but as said, there is a reason it didn’t take off. The new medications are of course more expensive but much more effective with less die effects, and of course you don’t need to move up the doses if it works for you and very few reach the top doses,

But that doesn’t mean everyone gets bad side effects there will be bad side effects from injections as well. Theres risks with both or them and other weight loss aids nothing is risk free.

Yes I have lost over 5 stone. I think thats reasonable enough to say it can work.

Yes there are offers with injections but the higher the dose the more it costs. Yes there are offers but then you have to hunt for them theres not a guarantee that there will be an affordable deal at the dosage needed.
With mysimba is can't go any higher that 100 a month.

in no way saying mysimba is better. Its probably not compared to the injections . But it can still work. Your paying a lower price do its probably not as good as injections . You get what you pay for.

But as an alternative for people who are on low income benefits for example its a reasonable alternative. If it works for that person.

At this rate why don’t we just start suggesting getting Alli from the GP as it is a £12 alternative…Simba and Mounjaro/Wegovy - they’re not comparable

If the weight loss is roughly 1/3 of the jabs you would need to do it for 3x the length of time. Unless the jab was 3x the cost it would work out financially better, and that’s without considering the benefit of months of extra time at a lighter weight

Ok, maybe take a breath and read the responses again. No one said it wouldn’t work or didn’t work.

if it helps you understand what’s being said to you, what people are saying is the side effects are way more significant than the new glp meds, the weight loss very, very moderate in comparison. As such of course it’s cheaper. It would need to be wouldn’t it. You could hardly charge comparable prices.

it is also not a new med, it was first available a decade ago in the uk. It has never been popular due to thr reasons listed. It’s not people don’t know it exists in the main, it’s they don’t want it.

its great it worked for you, but on a cost basis it is clearly more cost effective to use the new medications, and safer. There is no way round this. There is a reason they are very popular when my Simba never was.
