Newly diagnosed fibromyalgia and weight loss/exercise

Hey everyone,
I’ve recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia after months of pain and fatigue. Definitely not as bad as some are affected (looked online and acted myself with how debilitated some patients are). But the Dr says that weight loss and exercise will help.
I used to weigh 60-65kg 5 years ago (where o had been all my adult life), I hadn’t realised how heavy I had become until the dr weighed me… 85kg!!!
Looking for some support with diet and low impact exercise. Ive found “get fit with Rick” videos and they are easy and fun, I can easily do the 5000 steps video without it causing extra pain so that’s my baseline, looking to do it every day now. And just being more careful with portions. I already eat quite clean and don’t eat red meat.
For example, today I ate: overnight oats with raspberries and Greek yoghurt, an apple, chicken and lentil curry with kale and broccoli, and steamed fish with chilli/lime juice, salad and a seeded flat bread. Just need to make sure I don’t eat too much and move more. Aiming for 10K steps a day as realised I’m down in the 2-3K range which is basically inactive!
Any tips or experiences with those with fibromyalgia?

I don't have any tips but will follow with interest.

I too have fibromyalgia and have gained weight. I'm also not as bad as some regarding pain, although have to be careful I don't overdo it. It's the exhaustion that gets me. I'll take a look at the video you mentioned though.

Sounds good. I think you need to add more healthy fats to your diet. Extra virgin olive oil, avocado, nuts. Good anti inflammatory properties. Consider whether histamine overload is a trigger. Up to 2l water a day. Sufficient vitamin D.

Exercise wise - when you get more stamina, swimming and gentle yoga are great as low impact and help to lower cortisol. Light strength training once you have a very good fitness base.

I don't have fibromyalgia but I am immune suppressed.

Hi, thanks for your advice - what is strength training? Is this like weights? Can this be done at home following videos? Any suggestions for where to start.
it seems my ankles suffer the most - pain in the back of the ankle which limits my walking

Similar day today - 14000 steps (including a home step video).
Overnight oats, flatbread with humous tomatoes and celery, and fish with butternut squash chips/kale/broccoli

How are you getting on?

Sorry about the diagnosis but as my GP said, its not a death sentence but a right pain (literally), livestyle change can make a big difference. Excercise has saved me. Walking daily then Pilates. Pilates has greatly reduced all the pain in the joints, the walking has taken the edge of all the general muscle pain, but you have to keep it up forever now. If you stop, all the pains gradually flare back up again. You'll have good days and bad days but gradually you'll start to understand your body and what works for you.
Do you swim? Swimming is also great it works the whole body and relaxes the muscles. No matter what your competency level is, full immersion in the water will give you a good nights sleep.

Personally I used mounjaro, but I had much more to lose than you. I lost 7 stone. I am much more energetic and far fewer flares / issues now I am lighter.

Thanks for all your tips.
I have walked, swam, and done some yoga this week, and watched what I have eaten (to try and get some weight off). The yoga has been amazing for pain relief! And I’m 3kg down. Feeling a bit more positive now.
