Have chia seeds helped anyone else with appetite and weight loss?

I read somewhere that chia seeds can help curb the appetite, so off I went and bought some from Lidl. I can't afford injections and can't have them anyway due to health problems.

I've been on them for a couple of weeks and my appetite is hardly there now. I soak them in semi skimmed milk and add to things to eat. You have to soak them for 15 mins prior to eating them, otherwise they can cause problems with digesting them. You also have to drink fluids regularly to help them through the system. I have them twice a day. I had some at 11am today and I'm still not hungry. My stomach no longer feels empty or rumbly.

Just thought I'd recommend them. They're cheap, easy and seem to work.

My issue is that I eat when I'm not hungry, just because I crave sugary foods, so I'm not convinced they'd help me but it's great they're helping you.

They swell up when added to fluid and are very high fibre so yes they basically just fill you up, the same as Pysllium husk or konjak.

They are healthy as long as they aren’t replacing food because they don’t cover most of the food groups, minerals, vitamins etc So you still need to make sure you’re getting enough protein, fat, carbs and a range of vitamins and minerals.

I hate the texture of them in milk/water it’s like tapioca to me just urgh so I put a couple of tablespoons into stews/casseroles/chillis and it adds fibre and thickens the sauce at the same time while being completely unnoticeable.

I couldn't stomach the seeds whole. I use milled chia and flax seeds on my weetabix, in greek yogurt and I hardly notice them. I can't comment on the effect on appetite, mine never seems to wane, but they are very good for fibre. I also use oat bran.

Yes. I soaked them in water and added lemon juice. It sounds horrible but is surprisingly nice once you get used to the texture! Would curb my appetite and get a sweet kick from the lemon juice. I lost three stone over the past year and would do this every afternoon to fill me up before dinner. I don’t anymore - my appetite has naturally shrank now so I don’t ready get hungry in the afternoons like I used to.

Ive used them in yoghurt or keffir every day with milled flaxseed for a late breakfast for about a year and lost 30 kg, had a normal although slightly smaller main meal at night. Also my cholesterol dropped massively over this time. You definitely need to make sure you are well hydrated before and after or they can make you feel bloated. Your appetite does shrink and now I still have them but not as rigid as I did. If I start to add any weight I’m back on them for a month.

Lovely added to overnight oats.

I really like them with granola and kefir but it has had zero impact on my appetite sadly!
