Pre- diabetic diagnosis

Hi, I've had a diagnosis of pre-diabetes but I've suspected for a long time that I'm insulin resistant. I eat twice a day, limit carbs, very healthy eater with lots of protein/fruit and veg. My downfall is i sleep very late and barely do any exercise and have a sedentary job. I'm 55 and 10stone at 5ft6. Ideally I want to lose a stone.

Has anyone had any results from some of the berberine supplements on the market?

I know i should exercise more but I'm trying! x

I wouldn’t imagine that you’re much overweight for your height and weight. I think there is a strong genetic predisposition to insulin resistance/diabetes. I’m a bit overweight and tipping in and out of pre diabetes. I think the most important thing is not letting sugar levels spike, and sticking to 30g a day or less is recommended. I’ve not tried any supplements. I exercise regularly but it’s not made an awful lot of difference (is very depressing as I was always skinny until I hit 45!).

I've been prediabetic, it's not just carbs that can affect your sugar levels but fruit does too. Is there anyway you can cut your fruit down?
I've tried berberine, it's quite mild for lowering blood sugars and can cause GI symptoms.

I really think there is a genetic link in my case as my mum had the same issues. I just feel a lot happier being a bit lighter. The weight is all thighs and belly so clothes just aren't fitting like they used to and like you, I was always skinny until 45! I think the aim is to get the insulin normalised and then maybe the weight will shift. Exercise-wise, resistance training is the way to go, but if I'm honest even that's an effort after menopause! I guess I was looking for a quick fix in something like berberine!

Edited

It’s a myth to think carbs is just bread, rice, pasta and potatoes. There’s carbs in fruit. There’s 49g of carbs in 100g white bread and as much as 23g in 100g of banana fwiw.

Op have you been given any advice by a hcp?

@selfloveandselfrespecti have pcos so definitely insulin resistance. I’ve spent so many years trying ‘natural’ remedies (it’s tiring!) was diagnosed early teens and am now in 40s
I kept seeing a lot about berberine recently and decided to try it.
i had bloods done, and i am (surprisingly) not pre diabetic!

I took the supplement for 30 days and am now taking a short break (suggested use to take a break). Will probably restart end of month.

I can’t say for sure if it was berberine (I have started using walking pad after meals to bring glucose levels down too).
