Will my skin recover after weight loss and hospital dryness?

Lost a shed load of weight recently (naturally ish - not jabs) and my skin is all wrinkly on my arms and thighs and torso. It’s also very dry after a 6 week hospital stay. Anyone know if my skin will recover (I’m 67 so fully prepared to be told dream on) but would at least like my arms to buck up so I can wear sleeveless tops if we get another heatwave. I’d love to try shorts but accept that as I have one humongous leg (operation(s)) that’s probably wishful thinking.

Reading up on moisturising most advice is after a warm shower whilst still a bit damp but I can’t shower yet 🙄. Also I’m using E45 cream as I appear to have lots of random tubs of that lurking bathroom shelves. Is there a better alternative that’s not overly expensive?

TIA

The not overly expensive bit might be tricky. I balked at paying £16 (on offer on Amazon) on eucerin Urea repair plus body lotion -the 10% urea one. It’s the most I’ve ever spent on a body lotion, and the bottle isn’t overly big - but it’s fantastic, both for dry skin and for the appearance of crinkly skin.

Wishing you a speedy recovery, I hope you can shower soon.

I'm 66. I accidentally lost a lot of weight 6 yrs ago - 2 stones in a month - and put it all back on again. Of course, I lost a lot of muscle in my arms and they were left dry and wrinkly.

I started weight training and using Nivea Q10 Firming Body Lotion for over 60s. It's made a big difference, but things go backward if I forget to use the cream.

Just to add that I lost the 2 stones again, but this time it was deliberate.

So far as arm exercises are concerned, I started with band exercises for the arms. I then started free weights: side raises, then added biceps curls, then low row and then overhead presses. I've also been using the lat machine at the gym and have added the shoulder press machine and the chest fly.

Doing the weights has filled out the arms again, but I need the cream to sort out the parchment skin.

Thanks. I’ll try both lotions in turn. I’ve got some weights my DD bought me at Christmas as I’ve been using crutches and heaving myself off the loo. I have managed to develop a bit of muscle.

If you’ve lost a stone or two there are possibilities of it improving with time, if you can build some significant muscle bulk or creams for the dryness.

If you have lost significant weight, like me, while there might be improvements the damage was done as the weight went on and the only real solution is surgery.

Lost 7 stone since 2019. I know. Shocking.

But I wasn’t particularly wrinkly until the 4 stone I’ve shed since last June.

If you are going to try two creams anyway, can I suggest trying one on each arm! A much more scientific approach to seeing which one works best!

Wordsworse · 07/06/2026 18:25

I meant one after the other. Although an arm each isn’t a bad idea.

I know you did. But if you want to actually see which one works best, an arm each will be much more effective 😁

Of course. Must learn to read properly.

Popped some Q10 on my Tesco order due on Wednesday. Go me.

I have had to work against very dry skin all my life due to a skin condition. E45 does nothing for me! I have found that Dove anti ageing lotion is brilliant. I stock up when it’s half price in Boots and it’s brilliant.

Wordsworse · 09/06/2026 09:36

Thanks @Mummyduckplusduckling I’ll give it a trial.

Even women who have always been slim will get wrinkly upper arms and thighs as they age. I noticed my super fit friend (63) has some but only noticeable if she raises her arms. I use Q10 partially as I like the smell!

Wordsworse · 09/06/2026 12:41

True. It’s more the dryness which makes be look like I’m made of Crocodile hide.

If it's loose skin then no it won't ever go.
