Anyone else doing Zoe / 30 plants a week for fat loss ?

It’s 10 weeks til my summer holiday and I have just signed up to Zoe nutrition app for a 12 week block. I did a week before I went away and I have dipped in and out this week, but starting properly on June 1st.

Is anyone else doing this plan and seeing results? I don’t have loads to lose (ideally 1.5 stone but probably a stone by holiday would be excellent) but I really like the idea of feeling more nourished, better sleep, more energy and fewer cravings.

I've been a zoe member for just coming up to a year but they've changed their model. Weight loss was kind of incidental to following the personalised scoring for fat, sugar and bacteria based on the blood and poo sample results.

I wasn't that far off the ideal diet when I started anyway. I found it simple enough to follow to get every day into the 90% zone. After that I guess it's about a sufficient deficit to lose weight.

Its hard to eat a lot of crap food whilst hitting fibre, fat and sugar thresholds. If you currently eat a lot of fat or carbs it'll probably help you.

I didn't lose weight but it turns out I have other issues which WLI seem to be combating.

Good luck with it, it's a very sensible way to eat.

That’s interesting @SunnySunnyDayz, they no longer insist on the samples, and instead you snap your meals with your camera and it analyses them and scores them. It does count calories as well though. I think I will keep an eye on the cals at first as I do have a tendency to overeat.

i have enjoyed being on the plan, and amazingly I have lost 6lbs of holiday water weight in 2 days! 😱Wowzers.

Today I’m having a big salad made of lentil pasta, tuna, veg, periperi mayo and cheese and then for dinner we will have chicken thighs and I have some brocolli spears so I will have those. Interestingly my calories have been high these last 2 days but I have still dropped weight. I know it’s only water but I was very puffy and inflamed after holiday so i feel much better now.

I have been following the Zoe 30 since it started around the time of Covid and it has totally transformed my way of eating.

I didn’t sign up for the formal plan but decided that it made total sense to widen the range of fruit and veg I was eating and to just give it a go.

I knew I had a gluten issue and was pretty certain I had a dairy issue. I was also totally addicted to sugar and weighed in at 12 stone. As there was a long family history of diabetes this really worried me.

I started by listing every different type of fruit and veg I ate on a note in my phone and found the challenge to reach 30 (excluding herbs) each week really focused my mind on variety. I saw benefits in my health almost immediately.

I then focused on ditching processed sugars. That was a real challenge initially, with constant cravings and terrible headaches, but after about 10 days my head cleared and I felt amazing.

After about a month I sent off for a wearable sugar monitor as I wanted to understand whether I was achieving consistently good scores and also understand periods of dizziness in hot weather. Again that was illuminating. My perceived as ‘perfect’ breakfast of porridge was sending my blood sugar sky high. I also discovered that the processed gluten free bread I was eating at lunch time was leading to incredibly low sugar dips in the afternoon. Hence the dizziness.

Gradually over time I tweaked my diet using Zoe principles, to what it is today.

i now weigh in at between 9.5 and 10 stone. Zoe has become a way of life to the extent that I don’t really need to think that much about it. My fridge is packed with fruit and veg which amounts to approx 40% of my weekly food budget, I eat very little processed food, no gluten, just a little dairy in the form of cheese and very little sugar.

My health has improved dramatically and so has my bank balance. I spend less on food than I did 5 years ago.

My daily diet consists of;

Breakfast - Protein - Often involving eggs or Apple (good for keeping your Gall Bladder clear) and nut or seed butter.

Mid to late afternoon - A massive ‘Zoe’ chopped salad, with a piece of fish or chicken or sometimes a Mixed Veg Risotto (very little rice), a stir fry etc.

Evening - A piece of fruit (Pineapple, Kiwi, Nectarine) with a small bowl of mixed nuts.

None of this is dictatorial, I am essentially eating what I want when I fancy it. I find that these days the food noise has pretty much gone and aside from ice cream or a cake when out for a day, I am no longer interested in heavy carbs.

My one ‘must have’ is the bowl of chopped salad that sits in my fridge to dip into when needed. It comprises lightly steamed and cooled Broccoli, Asparagus, Sugar Snap, Romanesco and Sweetcorn with chopped Tomatoes, Peppers, Celery, Spring Onions, Carrot, Cucumber and chopped Red Cabbage all dressed with a large chunk of grated ginger and the jest and juice of 1-2 limes. I serve it with sprinkled Pumkin and Sunflower seeds and Pomegranate seeds. I also add Avocado on occasions. Once made that will last 4 - 5 days in the fridge without Avocado.

So going to your question @thenewaveragebear1983 I not only tried Zoe but found it became a way of life that has ended a life long battle with my weight. I didn’t push it in any way, just made small incremental changes which transformed the way I eat and ultimately my health.

Ohhhh and just to add,

I never shy away from a fab looking Steak Pie, Chips etc on a restaurant menu, I just find my mind is more interested in fruit and veg and an occasional deviation is just that !!

Zoe also transformed me. I’ve sustained all the recommendations and feeling great (at 45). Lost a stone following the Zoe way 2 years ago between September and December. And stayed at stable weight ever since. I also do at least 1 hour of yoga and 1 hour of Pilates a week religiously

Wow thank you for sharing, that’s amazing@Azureblueseas. I am already noticing even after just a few days back on plan that my appetite has changed, I just went to Sainsbury’s exhausted after work with no list and bought nothing! Previously that would have been a binge on the cards for me. I’m eating lots and feel really well.

I have hit my 30 plants already this week and I had the same lunch twice. I have also found that most of what I’ve eaten has been from my cupboards, which shows that the intention was always there, I just didn’t have the motivation

today I made a protein shake with kefir and frozen berries.
lunch was a big lentil pasta salad again, I’m definitely going to make that again as it’s so convenient and packs loads of veg in.
dinner was going to be chicken thighs and veg but actually I ate a slice of seeded sourdough and hummus after work and I’m genuinely not hungry so I may not have anything.

Your approach sounds perfect @thenewaveragebear1983

Up until I found Zoe I had lost and gained the same 2-3 stone all of my adult life. I was so done with the frustration of dieting and knew I couldn’t go on another diet.

Hence my small incremental change approach.

With that approach it will be days like your yesterday that will drive you on until suddenly you realise your whole way of life has changed.

As the weight started to come off, I actually wanted to be more active and even found that faced with a pile of high carb goodies or some luscious looking fruit, I would go for the fruit just because I knew I would feel better for it the next day.

I also embraced lots of foods I had never tried before and found I love Kimchi and enjoy trying new exotic fruits if I find them in the supermarket or farmshop.

I hope it really works for you !!

I've stuck to 30 different fruit & veg a week for the last three years but that is not intended as a weight loss diet (depends on portion size. Obviously a kilo of potatoes, rice, bananas and avocados won't help).

The whole point of 30 different fruit and veg is that it optimises your immune system by creating the ideal mix of plant foods in your gut. I was advised to adopt it post-cancer, to help prevent recurrence. I have heaps of energy, glossy hair and haven't had a cold since, as extra benefits. 😊
