Can anyone recommend RELIABLE bathroom scales?

I'm fed up with cheap, crappy scales that give wild readings.
I use the scales at the gym but want a solid set for home that give reliable readings.
Price wise, I don't mind (too much!)

I've just got a bog standard set of Salter scales and they have been fine. Don't forget that your weight will fluctuate, throughout the day and day to day. I weigh every day and use Trendweight to see the overall trend and smooth out the daily noise.

We were ere recommended RENPHO scales by a friend after moaning about how unreliable our Fitbit ones were.

We got a cheaper set and it is really good and gives loads of details about BMI, BMR, body fat etc and the app is great, you can even compare the difference between two dates.

we now know about 5 houses with these and everyone raves about them. But I they are all on diets so using them a lot,

Thank you. I need some in the house so I can weigh myself first thing in the morning at home.
I'm not an early bird, so the chances of seeing me at the gym before breakfast are slim indeed.

I love my eufy smart scales. Connect to an app. Gives loads of different measures and readings but the weight/water readings most useful. Consistent and reliable if used on a hard floor in same position. Charts and graphs galore. Can track weight loss against target etc.

I use Withings scales and think they’re fantastic. Utterly reliable and pretty accurate.

I have a RENPHO scale and it’s annoying as once it has decided on a weight for that weigh in, moving it around the room won’t change the weight. I used to move my old scale around until it gave me a weight I was happier with! I’m not sure if that makes it accurate, but it seems consistent. The app gives fat and muscle estimates etc.

I have seen adverts for Hume pod on Facebook so might try that one at some point if it’s on sale - but the app has a premium version you pay for at £9.99 per month which seems a lot.

I have RENPHO scales too. I like that it's the same weight when I stand on it more than once. My old scales I used to do best of 3 and it was different without me moving them around.

Clearingaspace · 10/05/2026 10:54

Interesting that your scale gave different results even without moving it. To be fair the RENPHO saves me desperately messing around for 10 minutes trying to reduce the result. RENPHO also has a calorie counting function but I prefer the app I already use for that.

Mine are salter. Think they were under £20. They are reliable. Flat surface, I just leave mine as in dont put them away, they stay in thr same spot.

I have the cheapest/entry level model of Withings. Works great, good for long term tracking of trends, very motivating with all the stats. They were trying to sell me upgrades and subscriptions at the beginning but gave up very quickly. It’s also very sleek looking, nice minimalistic design.

Even cheap ales are usually reliable. The issue is often the surface they are put on. They need to be on the same piece of hard flat floor each time to give consistent readings. If they are on your plush carpet or uneven tiles then they won’t work properly.

Edited

I tried a £5 set from Home Bargains - They were useless: the dial used to go round twice.
£25 set from the High Street - unreliable readings, even on a tiled floor.
The SECA ones at my gym are £300 - out of my price range.

I also suspect that scales are likely to be more unreliable the heavier you are.
