Help! I need help, 47 yo, perimenopausal, on hrt, 5ft 6", 15 stone, stressed, bit depressed, drink two bottles of wine a week, emotional eater, time poor, desperately want to lose weight, but completely lost as what to do now, anything I try doesn't show on the scales, or not quick enough. WLI are an option, but they frighten me a bit, not sure why. Please can someone help me, I feel so lost about what to do, there is so much conflicting advice.

80 percent of people have no side effects, most who do are minor gastro and much if that is caused by diet, if you eat clean and healthy there is a Lower chance, if you don’t like the injections, you just stop, you don’t inject the next week, it’s no biggie, all yoh lose is the cost of the first pen.

ive never been in control more than in these drugs, ive been on well over two years, am on a maintenance dose, i have had no side effects, other than some mild nausea when i first moved to 5mg, was never sick,

never had the runs either other than a recent holiday wheee some frozen fruit cocktails were an ill advised choice…

I think sometimes people think it’s some big commitment you’re making, it’s not, try it, if it doesn’t work or you don’t like it stop.

WLI 100% - nothing further to add at this stage

Nothing more to add, really?

Not looking at reducing stress?
Not taking steps to improve emotional and mental health?
Not aiming to reduce alcohol intake?
Not implementing time management strategies to build in time to exercise and eat well?

WLIs aren't a magical fix.

@Mercedes80 what have you tried previously?

@SilenceInside @Fancycrab what type were you on, and did you have any side effects?

A bit of slight nausea in the first week (I was never physically sick or even nearly physically sick though), felt very tired for about 3 days after taking it for the first month and that’s all really. They went away after a month or so. Everyone is different, but I haven’t heard of anyone getting any more than very mild and temporary side effects on it. Try posting the question about side effects on here, you’ll probably get a lot of answers

I know Orlistat isn’t popular, but it is working for me, albeit more slowly than reported results from WLI. I am almost 2.5 stones down since September, one more stone to go. Post-menopausal (age 59).

I am going to introduce the 24 hour fast suggested by a PP (thanks for that idea, btw!) and see how that goes. I have a Prescription Prepayment Certificate so the cost of the Orlistat is covered by that.

@BeanMeUp while I agree there’s more to discuss and I agree that WLI are not magic, they certainly enabled me to address the list of things you’ve given, where I was not managing to address them and manage to lose weight previously. I found that it cleared me so much mental head space that I then had the capacity to think about better eating, more sleep, more exercise and so on.

I’m 12lbs down in 7 weeks - one maintenance week the rest losses.

I’m time and energy poor too - I have a disabled son who at the moment sleeps for 3hrs, wakes up for 4-5hrs, and then sleeps for another 2 or so. Plus a full time job.

I won’t lie, it’s been difficult to maintain the headspace to properly meal plan, and to fit in more movement.

I started by just adding 1000 steps per week or so to my step count, invested in a home treadmill so it didn’t feel so laborious! I’m still very far off an athlete, but I’ve noticed an improvement in my mobility, and it’s at least beginning to not feel like a chore.

My appetite is slowly decreasing, I eat in much lower volume than a few months ago.

Haven’t considered WLI. I did very briefly consider Orlistat @doglikescheeseontoast but it absolutely terrifies me, I am convinced I’d have “accidents” and that just absolutely put me off 😂

Even if you can improve your activity bit by bit, hopefully you’ll see some change.
