Mounjaro makes me so ill, im guessing other brands will be the same?

Im so fed up of my weight. I have tried mounjaro twice. A min dose and then again a few months later on teeny tiny dose. I was horribly ill both times, stomach cramps, fatigue, uncontrollable diorreah, couldn't leave the bathroom let alone go to work.

Im so fed up seeing everyone i know losing shed loads of weight and telling me how much better they feel.
Ive got arthritis and plantar fasciatis and I know these would improve with significant weight loss.

Just wondered if anyone else is in the same boat? Im guessing if Mounjaro made me ill then other types of injections will have same effect! :(

I think you need to give it more than one week, some people get side effects like you’ve described but once their body gets used to it they’re fine. Maybe try a half dose the first week and a little bit more the next week?

Doggymummar · 26/04/2026 19:40

It takes a while to get used to it. I through up every day for weeks when I first started. Nearly ten stone down now and it's no issue

aquitodavia · 26/04/2026 19:47

It does seem some people get on better with Wegovy and others with Mounjaro, so it could be worth trying Wegovy, the side effects won't necessarily be the same.

Reallywhatsthat · 26/04/2026 19:53

I was reading a very interesting article on responses to mounjaro and it appears people with one particular allelic variant respond much better than people with the other common variant.
Not much help Iknow

Certain food types do cause side effects like heavy carbs and greasy food. Could you have eaten these types of food close to injection day? For me, a few slices of pizza made me quite ill and that was 3 months in to my journey. I stuck to protein and veg and little carbs, like chicken, fish or eggs and veg and was fine on that. Try to increase your fluids too and eat little and often, eating a standard meal would be too much especially at the start.

Twiglets1 · 26/04/2026 22:16

I feel your pain @Firefly45

Had the same experience with Ozempic. Tried it twice on the lowest dose and the second time I was so careful with what I ate, but I was still violently sick nevertheless.

Maybe I’ll try Mounjaro one day to see if I’m any better on that one. But I think I’m just a super responder which is annoying!

Flower1989999 · 26/04/2026 22:21

I'm 7 stone down and I've had periods when its made me quite poorly throwing up etc. I just pushed through and been on it 16 months now. Still get bad tummy sometimes and nausea but nothing too bad.

ButterfliesnWaterfalls · 26/04/2026 22:24

Restarted last week and I’ve had extreme headaches, tummy ache and couldn’t get up all weekend. I’ve been eating less due to feeling bloated.

I feel you OP. Feel like giving up 😭

CheeseNcrackerz · 26/04/2026 22:27

They are different drugs- try wegovy and see. I’ve taken both- allergic to mounjaro (I tried it twice too… didn’t learn the first time). Wegovy is better for me, though I do get ill sometimes and really do need to watch the fat and spicy food intake as it really impacts me. I’m also loosing weight really slowly which is disappointing when so many others are in completely new bodies in 6 months. Give it a go and see if it’s any better

justasking111 · 26/04/2026 22:32

My friend can't eat any red meat, spicy, fatty foods, chocolate, she's on an invalid diet as they used to call it.

I had similar with gallbladder issues for decades.

It's so boring to stick to.

Not tried WLI but I've been having success in weight loss (when nothing else worked) with a once a week 24 hour fast. (I.e. skipping breakfast and lunch one day.) I'd tried 5/2, calorie counting, exercise, intuitive eating and stuff that worked in my 30s didn't anymore. I just thought I'd share if you wanted to try something else. I did read a paper that there are some people who just react badly to them.

CuntOfTheLitter · Yesterday 06:12

Just do Keto. Same mechanism,
you won’t be spending all that money.

Did anybody try keto first? I lost five stone in a year a decade ago and it’s stayed off.

I'm not doing keto but I did cut out refined sugar, sweeteners and carbs as well as a once a week fast. I think it's the fast which made the difference but I do think when you hear the advice on WLI to cut sugar, fat and prioritise protein and fibre that if people did that anyway, then weight loss might follow. I think the problem is that if you're really used to eating a lot of sugar it can be very hard to stop. I think some people struggle without the WLI.

I can't speak for others as I've not tried them but I read up a bit about how quickly your gut microflora changed and decided to just ride out the sugar cravings as eventually they'd stop, and they did. I have never gone full keto though, I still eat fruit and dried fruit. I just don't eat cakes, biscuits etc. I even made sticky toffee pudding for the rest of the family yesterday (formally my favourite pudding) and didn't fancy any. (I wouldn't have been bothered, if I'd REALLY wanted some I'd have had it but the occasional times I have had added sugar since quitting, it's made me feel quite ill. So nowadays I can resist pretty easily even if I am tempted, which is very rarely.)

So when I hear about WLI removing "food noise" I wonder if there's a way to get there without the WLI if that makes sense? Not going to claim it's easy, but it was probably only 2 weeks before I stopped white knuckling it.

CuntOfTheLitter · Yesterday 07:18

Dunno. I was a proper sugar addict and keto completely stopped food noise for me, I know it’s torture at first but honestly there’s money down so much money if I could just do Keto. Interestingly Keto also got rid of joint issues plantar fasciitis etc so it’s definitely anti inflammatory done properly imo

RoseField1 · Yesterday 07:19

You could try wegovy. I didn't find wegovy upset my stomach at all, it made me constipated. It didn't work as effectively as Mounjaro though. What do you eat when you are on it?

AnxiousSquid · Yesterday 07:21

I switched from Mounjaro to Wegovy because of cost issues and found Wegovy was almost completely ineffective for me. So I think there is enough difference between them that your body might not react as strongly to Wegovy.

aquitodavia · Yesterday 09:26

I'm finding Wegovy fantastic, pretty much zero side effects, still eating relatively normally but just less, and i've lost half a stone in 2 weeks. Worth a try!

WeAllHaveWings · Yesterday 12:00

Another medication might work differently for you. Mounjaro and Wegovy are not only different "brands" they are different medications in the same family - some people find one more effective, or have less side effects than the other.

whattheflipz · Yesterday 12:45

I had a lot of success with keto too but stopped

curious79 · Yesterday 12:47

The first or second responder to your past sums up why I can’t do these. You have to put up with weeks of feeling sick and vomiting. I couldn’t wait for five days to be over. I’ve done Mounjaro and Ozempic. Ozempic made me feel 20 times worse.
