I'm in my 40s and have a big family wedding in July I'd like to get in better shape for. I'm trying to cut down on the sugary snacks and exercise more. Anyone else interested in a support and motivation thread.

@CarelessWimper I was supposed to bring the chocolate one today but forgot to chill it so I've got the original vanilla. Wish me luck 😂 I kind of think the chocolate might be the best now

Sounds like you had a good day. Well done on the loss too.

I just about did 10K steps but had a busy day. I'm weighing tomorrow 😬

Good morning! Yesterday was ok for me, but I ate a lot. However, I am still claiming it as a win. My kitchen floor has been dug up this week and yesterday they uncovered a load of problems which meant that they didn’t pour the latex until 5pm and gave me no notice! Came home from bootcamp starving and cold and not able to access the kitchen! Dh and kids immediately starting talking takeaway and i went to Asda and got some nice cheese and crusty bread - not a low calorie choice but much better than a kfc

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 14/05/2026 12:35

I’m starting a new part time job next week and there’s a gym near there. I’m joining it. However playing with nephews (who live near job) might keep me active.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 14/05/2026 12:36

Chocolatecoffeecup · 13/05/2026 10:22

Well done on the weight loss and run time @Fidgetbottom!

I'm ok for notification but think I'll struggle if I still haven't lost anything when I weigh myself this Friday however I have eaten out a couple of times this week.

@CarelessWimper Haha I am not a social butterfly but I am meeting a friend for lunch at pizza express today. I might have one of those low calorie pizzas which basically have a hole cut in the middle? Which flavour Huel do you have and which type? Today I tried the banana one of the original type and I do t like the taste! I might prefer others. It's not horrible but I had to make myself drink half the bottle @bigdecisionstomake I'll try other flavours I have and see if they're any better!

Well done on your weight loss! I feel like I'm adapting too in the sense I don't feel like I need to snack as much or if I do have something sweet I can have a small amount and leave it.

@WeMeetInFairIthilien Well done to you too

Have a good day all

Those pizzas with a hole in the middle, my best friend and her friend always had these after Weightwatchers meetings.

Chocolatecoffeecup · 14/05/2026 22:32

Think you did well there @thenewaveragebear1983

@Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain I'd love a gym at work! Tbf I love pizza with salad but I don't think I can get over the first time I ordered one, as it was stated to be low-cal, but I just wasn't expecting half my pizza to not be there 😂

I'm reflecting on my day and I'm now nervous about weighing tomorrow!

I had about 3/4 of a Huel shake for breakfast, my favourite Thai lunch (which is apparently under 600 cals), a galaxy bar, for dinner I made sticky ginger chilli beef with noodles and then had about 3 segments of a Terry's chocolate mint "Orange"

Also my usual Berocca with collagen for breakfast

Not great but on the plus side I've done around 15K steps and I'm certain my waist has shrunk probably from my exercises to improve my diastasis recti

Morning,

My sleep is getting worse. I have been eke since 4😩

@thenewaveragebear1983 kitchen refurbs are the worst. So disruptive.

@Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain congratulations on your new job, hopefully between your nephew and the gym you will get lots of exercise

@Chocolatecoffeecup i hope you enjoyed the vanilla flavour more and your weigh in sparks joy. It is lovely seeing things shrink.

I had a gain this morning to exactly 9st 9lb but I’m feeling bloated and too tired to worry. I was out the house till very late so no weights and had a jacket and beans for dinner in Morrisons as it was a good choice considering the other options nearby. I managed 12.5k steps. I have now had my weekend plans cancelled so get to stay at home so plenty of time for some exercise, clothes sorting and meal prep.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/05/2026 06:52

Thankfully it’s not a full refurb, just the floor being retiled. But nothing is ever simple is it?

I don’t think I’ve done too badly on the diet all things considered. Yesterday was even worse, I didn’t even plan anything for lunch and i had literally no accessible food all day! I ended up eating a galaxy bar from the fridge as I couldn’t access any plates or cutlery, and went out after work to get some shopping in so hopefully today will be better!

i’m going to run at lunchtime and then do bootcamp after work, I don’t normally do doubles but I need to get the miles in and I pay upfront for my classes so I need to use them. I am determined not to drink this weekend, I have wasted the last few by drinking too much and feeling shit, plus we are on holiday the following week where it will probs be boozy so a break will do me good.

I have the dreaded task of sorting out my summer clothes this weekend, genuinely I do not know if anything will fit. I am definitely not slimmer than last year. I am also going to work out a very simple leg/ arms core workout to start doing, I know what to do I just don’t do it. My bootcamp is great fun but I get no ‘progressive overload’ at all, I need to incorporate some dedicated weights time to see results now.

Chocolatecoffeecup · 15/05/2026 07:14

@CarelessWimper I preferred the vanilla. I drank about 3/4 of it and was still hungry by about 11 am.

I just weighed myself and weigh exactly the bloody same!! 9 stone 7. I've weighed between 9 stone 7 and 9 stone 7.6 since last week.

It makes me wonder what I'd weigh if I hadn't done all this extra exercise and made no effort with food but then again I have eaten out this week and had sweet treats. I ate out on Sunday and Monday evenings and had pizza express for lunch on Wednesday.

@thenewaveragebear1983 It's hard if you don't have access to a kitchen but you're clearly keeping on top of the exercise!

Chocolatecoffeecup · 15/05/2026 07:23

I've woken up in a horrible mood as well, probably hormonal!

I have a busy day working from home though so that should distract me.

I'll try to keep my steps up but not planning on any major exercise as I want to do park run tomorrow.

Happy Friday everyone! What are everyone's plans?

Chocolatecoffeecup · 15/05/2026 07:55

Sorry me again

I've just noticed on my renpho app that my fat has gone down very slightly and my muscle has gone up very slightly so is it possible I've lost a tiny amount of fat and gained a tiny amount of muscle but still weigh the same?!

OP posts:
Chocolatecoffeecup · 16/05/2026 07:58

Morning all

I'm just getting ready to go do park run. I really don't feel like it but will make myself go as my 10K run is about four weeks and I've barely done any running!

Hope you're having a good weekend ☀️

OP posts:
CarelessWimper · 16/05/2026 07:59

Morning and I’m so glad it’s Saturday.

@thenewaveragebear1983 any work in kitchens or bathrooms always takes its toll! It sounds like you have a lot to do! My clothes are also mid sort out but I am also going to declutter the ones that are really tatty.

@Chocolatecoffeecup i tend to drink my Huel slowly with another drink or it might be worth having the last quarter when you get hungry?

Hormones can play havoc with the scales but I think you have done really well to eat out so much and keep weight off. You may be right about loosing fat to muscle. I tend to look at the general trend of the scale readings over time.

I am back in the 9st 8s today - 9st 8.2lb 🥳 I had a busy day work wise yesterday so missed a workout but did get 11.5 steps in. I was freezing cold last night so hope I’m not coming down with anything.

I hope you all have great weekends

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/05/2026 08:14

Yes me too @CarelessWimper, this week has been long! I’m taking the dog out with a friend this morning, to be honest my social battery is a bit flat today and i fancy just a quiet day but this lady is a new friend who I met because she started a Facebook group for ladies to make friends, she puts so much effort in, and I feel I should go. the rest of the day is housework and jobs!

foodwise, well I did drink last night and ate loads of rubbish, I think a week of not eating properly just caught up with me, I just couldn’t stop! I am going to rein it in today, there is no point gaining 3lbs the week before my holiday is there?! I fancy something really tasty and spicy for dinner, maybe Moroccan lamb or something like that. With nice salad 😋 I love summer food

The biggest thing for me this week has been not getting enough water, I have really noticed it affect my appetite. Mental note to top up this weekend and keep hydrated

Theotterside · 16/05/2026 08:49

I haven’t weighed myself for a week or so but I was at a fancy Black tie event recently and while I’m still not at my goal weight I was so pleased how the size 10 dress looked on me.

I met up with an old friend the same week who hadn’t seen me for years and she also commented on how slim I was looking.

I am so proud not just because I looked nice in a dress but because I battled severe cravings and insomnia to lose the weight I have! I didn’t know it at the time but some of the intense hunger & sleep deprived fuelled cravings was caused by a vitamin/nutritional deficiency. Managing what I eat is a lot easier now the deficiency has been recently identified and managed . So I’m hopeful I can lose the fourth and final stone over this summer.

So yeah for anyone at the start or middle or near the end of their weight loss journey I just want to say you’re doing great and keep going!! Also don’t be afraid to check in with a GP and get a blood test.

I’m calling it a weight loss journey but of course once I’ve reached my goal weight I still intend to carry on eating similar healthy stuff which I genuinely enjoy- it’ll just be slightly bigger portions.

Chocolatecoffeecup · 16/05/2026 11:21

@CarelessWimper That makes sense. I find it easier to drink Huel slowly. I will take the chocolate one to work on Tuesday and try that. I might as well give it a go at least until they run out! Well done on your loss. I also think I need to drink more water and find the scales are kinder to me when I do.

I did park run this morning only my second ever but I also walked / ran there and walked back so did over 10K overall. I just made pancakes, sausages, bacon and egg for breakfast as a treat but it's mostly protein right?! 😬 I do need to get on it this week but getting my running up is also priority as I'm doing my 10k in about 4 weeks!

well done @Theotterside looking and feeling great in your clothes is a great NSV!

Just mowed both our lawns and got zero steps for it. My Garmin doesn’t seem to count them but my Fitbit. We have two large lawns that need a petrol mower as the ground is uneven(thanks moles and rabbits) and narrow in places and it’s hard work. So I’m feeling super annoyed now 😩

That is annoying! I remember when my dc were young and my watch wouldn't pick up the steps when I was pushing the pram as my arm was obviously still. Is it the same thing? I had to put my watch in my pocket or spend my bra strap!

Yesterday I had another ok day, I walked and did jobs, and sorted out all my summer clothes. Today I need to go for a run, ideally a decent length one, and it’s such a beautiful day as well. Dog walk first.
foodwise I am going to have salad for lunch and dinner I have a piece of lamb which I am going to roast with some spices, and potatoes. I have loads of veg which needs used up as I’ve had no kitchen last week so haven’t cooked.

I’m determined to have quite a strict week on plan prior to holiday this week, I have a couple of classes booked at the gym and will run.

CarelessWimper · 17/05/2026 08:04

@Chocolatecoffeecup I think it is the same thing. But I didn’t notice it till too late. Because the lawns are lumpy and even has hills in it. It is physically tiring so I really resent not getting steps for it. Congratulations on the run, I hope you get plenty of time for training.

@thenewaveragebear1983 i hope you had a good time yesterday. I hear you with the social battery, we are catching up with friends and had people around last night, thankfully for tea and biscuits and everyone but me had the biscuits. I hope you can keep on track. I do find meal planning and prepping helps if you have time.

@Theotterside a black tie event sounds lovely! It sounds like you have done extraordinary well to achieve your losses. I got my bloods tested about 2 months ago and they were ok. I am so pleased for your compliments it is so nice to get them.

Despite my lack of tracking, I still got 14k steps yesterday and was good with food. I had a small loss of 0.2lb and am 9st 8.0lb so very close to my original target of 9st 7. I think for me, getting the weekends sorted out so food wise they are just another day, rather than weekend treats, has made the biggest difference.

Chocolatecoffeecup · 17/05/2026 08:29

@thenewaveragebear1983 Is your holiday next week? Your lamb dinner sounds nice. I'm also the same with social battery. I don't know if it's an age thing or I'm just aware of it now in a way I wasn't before.

I don't have much planned for the day other than taking my DC to a kids party this afternoon. I think we'll try to go for a family walk this morning both to get my steps up and to get the dc out as we were home all day yesterday.

I bought a beef bourginoign (no idea how to spell it!) from the butchers yesterday that we plan to have for dinner today with roast potatoes and yorkshire so I'll probably have something like eggs on toast for brunch.

@CarelessWimper At least you know for next time! At the time I was doing a steps challenge for charity so it was a month long thing. Well done for not having biscuits last night and on another loss. How often do you weigh?

OP posts:
ApricotRow · 17/05/2026 08:29

I’ve decided to have a wardrobe sort out today. I was hoping the weather would be good so I could do some gardening but it’s not looking that way.

I’m going to be ruthless I have so much stuff I hold on to just in case and never wear. And then I’m going to treat myself to new clothes this summer.

I am also going to sort out my underwear drawer some of it is shameful, I have teen sons all in designer pants and I have Asda knickers and Primark bras!

I’ve had quite a good week food wise so I’m hopeful for a good weigh in tomorrow. I do also weigh myself at home but my scales are very unpredictable. Maybe that’s something else I should buy!

Thank you!

Well done on 10k. And That breakfast sounds lush btw. This is where I miss being able to run long distances and then have meals like this at the end of it!

just curious as someone who loves Thai - what’s this favourite Thai lunch you speak of? ☺️

I’m glad all was well on your recent bloods!

Thank you! Yes I feel it’s given me confidence to really kick the habit of over eating especially on sugary food - since I now know I can do it. I’ve always told myself I had poor self-control but I don’t think that’s the case anymore.

Huge congratulations on almost reaching your goal!!

I’m looking forward to getting down to 9 stone 7 as that’s when I feel I start to look quite slim. My goal weight is 9 stone though - I’m 5ft 3ish.

I know what you mean about the weekends, they can really set you back if you’re not mindful!

I’ve been at my friends since Friday and leaving on Monday but thankfully they eat really healthy Asian fusion type food so I’ve had lots of chicken and fish and veg and fruit for dessert.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 17/05/2026 19:32

@Chocolatecoffeecup yes we go next Saturday for school holidays, we are going to the Isle of Wight. Annoyingly it is forecast to be cooler than it will be at home 🤷‍♀️
my lamb was delicious. I just cooked it in my cast iron pot, I dud tomatoes, spices, honey, chickpeas, onions, peppers. Raisins. And cooked the lamb in the middle of it all 😋

I’m tired, I did 28k steps today (2 dog walks and an 11k run) but my food has been good and I ticked a few jobs off my list, coloured my hair etc.

I’m at a conference tomorrow, food is provided but will inevitably be sandwiches of some sort. I made a recipe I saw on Facebook, it’s made of cottage cheese, egg and cheese, described as ‘bread’ but it couldn’t be less like bread, but I will have that for breakfast anyway as a high protein meal.

Chocolatecoffeecup · 17/05/2026 19:49

@Theotterside Thanks! It's sticky chicken and rice from giggling squid. They do some lunch boxes which I think were for deliveroo but you can order in the restaurant for about £9.

@thenewaveragebear1983 The forecast may change but even if not it will still be be nice to get away! the lamb sounds delicious. Turns out I bought stroganoff instead of bourgingnon but it will still nice with potatoes, veg and yorkshire puddings 😂 28k steps is great! I'd only done 3K as at a couple of hours ago so trying to get them up to 10. I'm only nearly 7 and can't decide whether it's worth it before bed...

@CarelessWimper I let go a bit at weekends, maybe too much, but I've also always been paranoid of cutting down massively and then ruining my metabolism and meaning I'll gain as soon as I start eating "normally". I don't know how true this is but that's my excuse for not being massively restrictive. I just think it's good to have higher cal days not that I'm tracking calories but I may need to rethink if I don't lose again this week!
