Ok so I’m really keen to lose weight and so would like u to rate my new daily menu

breakfast 2 weetabix
lunch 2 boiled eggs on brown toast with butter
dunner jacket potato with butter and also broccoli and chicken on the side
apple for a snack

that should surely help yes?

in the last few days I’ve had as extras: - 1 bag of crisps, 1 biscuit, 1 hot cross bun and 2 soren bars which have somehow added 2 pounds??! Which does seem odd

So I just ate a bag of ready salted mccoys crisps, is this awful?

Cut out the snacks and butter and add loads of veg. Loads. Several portions with every meal.
To your egg meal you could add tomatoes, mushrooms, spinach, asparagus.
To your chicken meal you could add carrots, cabbage, courgette, baked celery, cauliflower.

If you must have crisps, choose a lower cal / fat one than mccoys (french fries). I would avoid having stuff like that in the house tbh.

it’s not great-
dig deep and find that will power!

Snackpocket · 28/03/2026 21:37

Of course you ate crisps, you are probably pretty hungry if all you are eating is a couple of weetabix and some eggs! I’ve been losing weight but at a slow manageable pace. For breakfast I have 150-200g of low fat Greek yoghurt with 20g granola, frozen raspberries and a drizzle of honey. For lunch I have a warburtons bagel thin with a can of tuna mixed with extra light mayo, cucumber and carrot sticks, an apple and an easy peeler. For snacks I have cheese strings or yubi 99 calorie protein bars. Then I eat normal type dinners but I’ve reduced my portion size and upped my salad/veggies. I’m getting plenty of protein so not feeling hungry and resorting to snacking on rubbish.

It’s not awful. It’s 133 calories in a 25g pack. So, if you are still within your weight loss calorie target it’s fine.
However, it only takes a extra 100 calories a day over your tdee to put one stone on in a year.
Having lost over 4 stone, I still do eat chocolate and crisps, I just cut something else back if I choose to have them, so I stick within my calorie allowance.

MikeRafone · 29/03/2026 07:44

How much exact fluid in ml did you drink on each day? This will affect the weight on the scales. ⚖️

NeedingASafeSpace · 29/03/2026 07:46

Personally I’d swap the butter out totally. If you like wet food maybe swap butter with beans. Or totally replace the bread with beans? Go on chat gpt and put your menus in and ask it for a slimming world friendly alternative and explain the healthy an and b choices to you.

Lemonthyme · 29/03/2026 07:48

Personally I don't eat crisps. I used to look at the calories on pack and think "oh that's not too bad" but the problem with them is they're so calorie dense and as a result you eat those calories, however many it was and you find that you don't feel full. So there's a lingering dissatisfaction even if you manage not to eat anything else.

While it's still high calorie, my go to snack would be cheese. I'm sure I'll get lots of hate for that but I'd rather eat something that tastes better and also has a decent amount of protein in too. But it is high calorie so if calorie counting is your approach that might not be great. An alternative lower calorie option though if you want that savoury, salty tang could be pickles.

MiddleAgedDread · 29/03/2026 07:49

So 2 weetabix, 2 eggs, chicken and a bit of veg is all you’re planning to eat in a day? Unless you’re seriously petite your body needs more than that many calories to even function. You really need to read up on calories your body requires and count what you’re eating!!

Ladybyrd · 29/03/2026 08:00

Lose all the extras. Plus that’s pretty carb heavy - if you went for more protein you’d feel fuller for longer.

Clearingaspace · 29/03/2026 10:48

I think potatoes are quite an individual thing - for some people a baked potato is the worst thing for their blood sugar. However your body was obviously craving something in them because you caved and ate crisps. Better to eat the potatoes as part of a filling calorie counted meal as it does have some fibre and vitamins and is low calorie for the amount it weighs. My weight is a disaster because I graze on buttery toast and cutting carbs definitely helps me hugely with weightloss but it can be hard to maintain a low carb diet. The one thing that most diets agree on is eat lots of veg, lean protein and healthy fats like avocado. So long as you are counting calories and avoiding obvious junk food that sets off cravings, like crisps, it should allow you to lose weight . Best to come up with 3 healthy balanced meals at a calorie deficit. Also try to feed yourself the way you would a friend - you wouldn’t give them two plain eggs, you would add salad, avocado etc.

Vodka1 · 29/03/2026 11:28

It's very boring to only eat the same food every day?

Carbs are good, carbs are good fuel, don't cut them out too much but you absolutely need more variety day to day.

Easy swaps keeping what you like could be as simple as -

Omelette for lunch, with lots of veggies in, some cheese and ham.
Egg and turkey bacon bagel + your fruit
Quiche & packet salad

Chicken skewers for dinner with packet salad, because it's much easier to make those choices when you have them in the fridge.
Chicken chunks with a fuck ton of veggies + quinoa
Chicken stir fry, noodles, lots of veg, sauce of your choice

This way you don't overly have to limit yourself and they are all quick and easy options, but ofc add more and more in, no one wants boiled eggs and one slice of toast on repeat for the rest of their life!

1 bag of crisps, 1 biscuit, 1 hot cross bun and 2 soren bars which have somehow added 2 pounds??! Which does seem odd

Well it doesn't really work like that, to gain 2 lbs you'd have to eat alot of calories on top of what you actually need to function, so that is just water weight your daily weight will always be up and down, don't focus on daily numbers.

There is nothing wrong with snacking, but personally the snacks is where you should be eating a slice of toast, or a couple boiled eggs. For one big biscuit you could probably eat 3 eggs instead.

30g of good cheese and 6 water biscuits. It feels so naughty but only 220ish calories.

TheOpalReader · 29/03/2026 13:58

You really need to look at what's sustainable for long term weight loss.
You are going to be seriously miserable eating a couple of eggs, a couple of Weetabix and some chicken every day for ever.

You need fuel, and you need variety. I'm not going to try and make a meal plan because I don't know what you like/dislike.

A single meal isn't going to derail your goal, but try and look for a low calorie alternative to it, or see if you can add to meals instead of taking away.

I found I lost a lot more weight when I stopped being so restrictive.

CortieTat · 29/03/2026 18:44

I second what PP said - aim for a way of eating that is sustainable in the long run; varied, colourful, healthy and doesn’t feel like a diet. I bet you are going to lose weight quickly eating weetabix, eggs and chicken every day, but could you imagine eating like that till the end of your life? You will have plenty of posters on MN telling others that they’ve tried every diet under the sun and nothing works. Please don’t do the same mistake, going on a crash diet is impossible to maintain long-term.

Lots of plants, around 1g of protein per kilogram of body weight (1.3 if you exercise regularly with high intensity), measure fats in cooking with a spoon, try to eat seasonal vegetables (lettuce all year round is boring anyway), try to get at least 30g of fibre per day. After a while it becomes natural.

FoolOfShips · 29/03/2026 18:55

I estimate your menu (not including extras) to be between 1200 and 1300 calories, depending on portion sizes, which should be low enough to lose weight - how quickly obviously depends on your current weight and level of activity.

A few criticisms - you're nowhere near your 'five a day' - could you add more veg to your evening meal and maybe another portion of fruit. Also not much calcium there - you might want to swap the toast with butter for a yogurt or a couple of ryvitas with a small amount of cheese or cottage cheese.

I get the thing about wanting to eat more or less the same every day - something you like, you know will fill you up, and you've calculated will be enough to be in calorie deficit. I'm exactly the same. You just need to make sure it is balanced, and keep some minor variations to stop you getting totally bored with it.

somanychristmaslights · 29/03/2026 19:09

You’re setting yourself up to fail with a diet like that. You need to eat high volume foods to keep you filled up. With the weetabix for example, pair it with Greek yoghurt and fruit. 2 boiled eggs and toast wouldn’t even fill up my 8 year old. Have a look at this trainer on instagram, she is so clear with the message that you can eat a calorie controlled diet and still eat loads of foods!!! https://www.instagram.com/bethferacofitness?igsh=aW52cjRyMWg0cXpj

To lose weight you need to be in a calorie deficit. Unless you know what your TDEE is and then deduct from that (500 cal deduction potentially will lead to a loss of 1lb a week). You then need to weigh your food to make sure you stay in a deficit

Use a food tracker like Nutracheck to record your calorie intake so you can keep track.
Plenty of protein and fibre will help fill you up and hopefully reduce hunger and snacking.

Breadcat24 · 31/03/2026 15:56

At least you are not eating 450g of cheese every day.
What happened to that thread?

@moonstarsuns Could you aim for more vegetables and fibre.
Porridge might be more nutritious for breakfast
Mixed veg like carrots courgettes, broccoli might go well with your chicken dinner
Could you make some salad with your eggs

YouDriveMeCrazyButICanDoThatMyself · 31/03/2026 19:12

@Breadcat24 it’s still up, I can’t even get my head around how that is possible, I’ve eaten half a 400g block in about 3 weeks! 😂

The main meals look extremely low calorie, and now you've cut bread, butter and potato completely not sustainable long term and you'll be saying "sod it" and binging sooner rather than later. But we don't know what your body needs to lose weight so I suggest downloading myfitnesspal along with your age, height, weight and activity level and it will give you a calorie guide.
