Options for 2 stone weight loss

I’m considering a weight loss jab but unsure which one to go for or if there’s other things I should try first.

I’ve gone from 14.5 to 13stone on my own over 12 months with diet and exercise, but being in a calorie deficit has become increasingly difficult.

I’m constantly hungry, and maintaining my weight is easy enough to manage but I have 2 more stone to lose to get to a healthy BMI. I’ve tried upping protein, fibre etc but nothing seems to work.

Mounjaro is unaffordable for me, I’m thinking WeGovy, but not sure if there’s other options available that have worked well for others and interested in suggestions.

The only other GLP1 available at the moment is Nevolat which is a daily injection, and was called Saxenda previously. It contains liraglutide, and is less effective than Wegovy (semaglutide), which in turn is less effective than Mounjaro (tirzepatide).

Then you have non GLP1 prescription medications. There's Mysimba tablets, which are about as effective as Nevolat in terms of weight loss, but can have various side effects that might be problematic. Then there's the fat binding tablets, Orlistat, which stops you from digesting fat but can have unpleasant side effects if you don't follow a very low fat diet. There is an over the counter version called Alli which is the same medication at a lower dose.

Would you qualify for a Wegovy prescription at the moment, as in, is your BMI over 30 (or over 27 for certain ethnicities, or with a weight related health issue)?

@Frazzledfringe , could you share a typical day of eating and drinking please?

My BMI is 30 and I put on 4 lbs recently so when I checked MedExpress earlier putting in all the details it suggested Mounjaro and WeGovy

You would qualify for any of the prescription treatments I mentioned with a BMI of 30. Wegovy is going to be more effective than any of the non-GLP1 treatments, if it works for you, and it works for the large majority of people who take it.

Ok here’s a typical week day working from home.

Breakfast:

Either a protein bagel or a wrap with 2 eggs, bit of cheese and bit of avocado and siracha. Tends to come at 550 cals.

Sometimes I’ll have porridge instead with chia seeds, Banana and peanut butter, or berries and almond butter. Depending on combination around 550-600.

ill have breakfast after a 4km walk so I’m hungry by the time I eat.

have a coffee after breakfast, maybe a tea a bit after mid morning and a Timeout.

Lunch: sweet potato with poach eggs, greens and feta or jacket potato and beans. Sometimes leftovers from previous night.

20-30 walk again. school run at 5, starving again and that’s when I give in and have a toasted tea cake or a crumpet about 4 if I’m not calorie counting that day.

dinner at 6 something like spag Bol, with courgetti and small portion of the spaghetti, or some kind of roasted meat and veggies, curry (made with yoghurt, never cream) and rice and spinach, chicken fajitas.

After I’ll have a yoghurt or something like that and some kind of workout to get to 15k steps.

weekends look a bit different, might have a few drinks, less steps, but not as fixated on food as busy.
