Is this food noise? And will WLI help ignore it?

I've been seeing a lot of talk about food noise and just wondered what it was... I can ignore biscuits, sweets etc if I don't open the packet but once I open the packet I'm sort of 'aware' that the biscuits are now available and will keep going back until I've eaten the whole lot. Is this food noise??

If yes....will weight loss jags make me ignore it?

I will eat the biscuits if I'm not hungry, feel nauseous or am literally telling myself not to do it. I'm worried I will pay all this money for the jags and just ignore that I'm not hungry and eat the junk food anyway....

That’s one of the aspects of “food noise” certainly from my point of view. The ongoing mental obsession with food like the biscuits you describe when you know you aren’t hungry and you’ve already had one or two.

And, for many people, that’s what WLI cuts out either in the first few days or over the first month as the medication builds in your system. Some people it takes a bit longer and for a small percentage it never really helps with that.

The research trials showed that this medication works for the vast majority of people. It will likely work for you, if you want to try it and qualify for a prescription.

That sounds a bit more like binge eating. Which has an element of food noise. The jabs may or may not help… it depends on the reasons behind your binge eating. And even if they do stop it it will likely come back when / if you stop taking them unless you tackle the reason.

I have wondered this too op

It certainly cut it out for me, and I was fortunate that it happened from day 1. It was like a switch had been flipped and I just wasn’t bothered any more. I just ate at meal times and then forgot about food.

Boredom. Emotional eating. Distraction. Procrastination..... You name it, I've got it!!

But, at least I can recognise it? I am supremely confident that this time it will be different and I will magically stop all the nonsense and stay slim....

What is food noise then? Just thinking about food all the time?

Food noise refers to persistent, intrusive, or repetitive thoughts and mental chatter about food, often occurring even when not physically hungry. It is a form of cognitive preoccupation—or "food cue sensitivity"—that can feel like constant cravings, leading to overthinking, emotional eating, and difficulty concentrating on other tasks.

If it helps I do think WLI will help you to stop this if you take them. It works for most people. The issue is if you don’t want to take them forever you’d need to do some soul searching on how to stop yourself going back to the binge eating when you do.

For me and after a lifetime of on- off dieting I think food noise is real hunger. I don’t very often get fixated on treat food that is open. But I am constantly hungry and it builds to the point I find it hard to concentrate on work. Walking and indoor cycle help distract me

SilenceInside · 08/02/2026 23:00

Yes, that constant mental churn about what I could eat, what I should eat, what I shouldn’t eat, wishing I could eat xyz, how many calories in xyz and if I ate some would that be too much, how long till I could reasonably eat again, thinking about when I could eat the ice cream that I knew was in the freezer… just that ongoing chatter about all of that. That’s what just disappeared on the afternoon of day 1 of Mounjaro. I just didn’t think about food at all. Only when I realised it was lunchtime or dinner time and I should eat something and then it was just a question of deciding on something nutritious to eat.

Thank you. I don't think I have that, it's more I eat when I can't think of something better to do but could just as easily not eat....
