So after an adulthood of obesity, I’ve got to 45 with health concerns and something has clicked. Every issue I have is linked, or made worse by my weight and tbh it’s now or never!

im regularly anaemic, I have issues with my hips (no surprise), sleep apnoea and currently being investigated for high bp. I’m also fed up with wincing when I have to sit in a bucket style chair, or on a fixed bench/table set up. I don’t know my weight (awaiting batteries for scales!) but I’d hazard a guess of about 17-18 stone. I’m 5ft 7 and size 20-22.

I love good food and cooking. I’m veggie and have a nut allergy. I’m also allergic to most uncooked fruits.

My biggest issue is snacking, I’m not great at feeding myself breakfast or lunch, so I get to mid afternoon and I’m often pretty hungry, any tips for that? Im out at work two days a week - so two days I need to start taking healthy breakfast and lunch. Not a fan of sandwiches. Thinking I could take granola/yogurt and fruit for breakfast?

Can anyone recommend an app that could help to track my food?

To be honest I’d appreciate any support at the moment, even if it’s a kick up the arse of how have you let yourself get to this!!

Use nutracheck, you do have to pay but there’s offers on at the moment so it is £27 for the year I think, and definitely worth it.

I make overnight oats and pre prep my lunches so I always have things to hand and snacking/ grazing is also my downfall. I am gluten free and I find if I buy gf things for me I just eat them so I didn’t buy any this week except oatcakes.

january totally went to shit for me so I am restarting again tomorrow, my plan this week is very simple- to track every single morsel I eat, 1500 cals a day, and drink 2-3l water. Sounds really obvious but I have not even done that this month.

My fitness pal is a good app to track food but if you've not really done it before it can br overwhelming
My advice is to start with a very small change so for example eating a bowl of Greek yoghurt with berries and seeds for breakfast or drinking a few more glasses of water throughout the day. Dont try to make a huge overhaul that seems completely overwhelming and usually people fail when they try to start with a massive change!
Be honest with yourself and what you do eat for a week...write it all down and then look at where you can make some small changes or where you can cut out the processed foods

Myfitnesspal app is free. I've used it for the last 16 months or so to track my food to lose 4 stones with weight loss injections. I was also vegetarian for many years and was anaemic. I craved carbs and was prediabetic. I'd recommend a high protein low carb diet to lose weight. Have cottage cheese or high protein yoghurt as snacks.

So I was in the same boat, plus shift working made eating something decent when I got hungry after not eating breakfast a challenge - esp as I was in a customer facing role

I know Protein is so cliche nowadays, but for me what I did was have a couple of baby bells in the car for the drive home - stopped me stopping for a sausage roll . Then when they got so bloody expensive , I would cut some from a block - the same weight as a couple of baby bells and pop them in my mouth as I drove

Then I started doing my version of overnight oats. Just before I left for work, in a bowl went the frozen berries, the plain oats and a small pot of greek yoghurt . By the time the hunger arrived it was edible

Now Im on a fixed shift, Im away out the door at 5am - not a mission can I eat that time of day - home at 10am, need to walk the dog so its around 11 am before I can think about myself. I take a cappuccino ( made at home ) and that will usually get me through till around 1pm. That's when I make a smallish, high protein, high fibre meal - be it jacket spud and beans or a an open sandwich using wholemeal or rye and piles of salad and protein, or just a couple of poached eggs on spinach or rocket and wholemeal

It is hard to find foods that fill you that fit in when you are ready to eat the hind leg of a donkey. Now I make sure I have a HM veggie soup in the fridge so Its 2 mins in the microwave before its in my belly, or some cooked chicken drumsticks, and some ripe ready to eat fruit
