Replacement for cottage cheese?

For lunch I like to have salad (cucumber, tomatoes, pepper, olives & beetroot, usually) plus cottage cheese for protein to try to fill me up. It’s great because I can have a huge dollop and not worry about the calories.

BUT cottage cheese now seems to be setting off my IBS. Is there any easy, low calorie alternative which I can stick in my salad?

Sardines?

Boiled egg, still warm. Fabulous

Quark/kvarg? It's still dairy but it's like a smooth cottage cheese almost, taste wise?

Salmon? Loosely covered in foil, oven for 15-20 mins. Eat hot or cold.

Would feta have the same effect?

I find lower fat dairy gives me terrible acid, not sure why.

If you dont mind the texture and that they are a bit processed what about fish sticks, do they still sell fish sticks, not sure Ive seen them

Tuna in spring water is very high protein, very low calorie. Or strips of skinless chicken breast cooked in a bit of stock. Boiled eggs could be good too.

If you can have other dairy products, Skyr is wonderful - thick, high protein and naturally low fat, low calorie. I've only tried it with berries and cinnamon but it might work as a savoury dip with some herbs or spices or chopped spring onion/cucumber/mint stirred in.

Sympathies re the IBS. I know how it feels 😕

Are you sure it’s the cottage cheese setting off your IBS? Not the cucumber skin/seeds or raw capsicum? I have to cook peppers, tomatoes and courgettes into a kind of ratatouille salad, or eat picked cucumber and peppers. I bloat up in pain otherwise.

I find the following digestible: any tinned fish; one occasional egg; kefir yogurt. The latter is supposed to be very good for gut biome.

I hope you find a solution.

Thanks all, some really good suggestions here. I have to be careful with dairy, but I seem to be OK with feta so that’s a decent shout. Tuna, salmon & eggs would work well too.

@GlobalSpinNumptyI don’t seem to have issues with cucumber, luckily. Sympathies right back, it is such a pain!

If its dairy that's setting your ibs off you could be lactose intolerant, I've got both and buy lactase enzyme tablets from amazon, I use Best Naturals brand at 9000 fcc as I'm very intolerant but the 3000 fcc should work fine for you and is cheaper, 1/2 tablets and you can dolop that gorgeous cottage cheese on your salads again.

I quite like those small tins of flavoured tuna
