When does weight loss stop being water and start being fat loss?

In the last three weeks, I've lost 6lb through cutting down and being more active. So.... I know that when you start it's water loss, but will I be losing fat by now?

Does this seem a daft question? Just wondered if I can start feeling pleased with myself yet!

I don't know the answer but I think you can be pleased with yourself now!6lbs is good! Good luck with it all .

LivingLaVidaLurker2 · 12/06/2008 20:28

Oh, that's kind - thanks very much. Perhaps I will start to feel a little pleased now - clothes definitely feel a little looser so hopefully I'm on the right track.

Have you been measuring yourself as well as weighing? Can be very satisfying to lose inches as well as pounds.

6lb is brilliant! Well done..

LivingLaVidaLurker2 · 12/06/2008 20:38

Thank you. I shall go and find my tape measure right now! Been a serial/yo yo dieter for many years, but have a completely different attitude this time. I really feel I'm going to get there and have set myself a 1 lb a week target. Feels very achievable, unlike my previous crazy goals (e.g. 500 cals a day, a stone in 4 weeks etc etc.)

Best of luck with it. I've recently lost 2 stone after finally getting serious about it.

I'd never actually tried to diet before, but have just been calorie counting, five a day, drinking loads of water and walking. It's amazing the difference it's made to me.

Have you set a goal?

LivingLaVidaLurker2 · 12/06/2008 20:52

Wow - two stone! That's brilliant. I like the way you did it as well - it's the same approach I'm taking this time. As a bonus, I feel much more energetic too, which is very useful as my ds wakes up every morning at 5.30am!

I've set a goal to get down to 10 stone, which is another 1 stone 4lb and I aim to get to my goal by mid-October, though quicker if possible.

Hi LLVL,
I'm now also 11 st 4lbs having lost 11lbs over the last six weeks and ideally would love to be back at 10 stone too.

I'm also taking it easy and am aiming for 1lb loss per week and am basically doing the same as Fanella, cutting out all junk and increasing my fruit, veg and water intake, and have been doing Davina's DVD twice a week.

I had a couple of "have you lost weight?" comments this week which is encouraging.

LivingLaVidaLurker2 · 14/06/2008 19:13

Hi Malovitt - 11 lbs in six weeks is excellent. It's really encouraging to hear from people who are losing weight sensibly. Would you recommend the Davina DVD? I get bored with them so quickly, so I've been Sky plussing (is that a word?) Aerobics Oz Style which is on every day at 6am on Sky Sports. I thought if I recorded 5 of them, I'd have a good selection of routines to choose from.

Good luck with getting down to 10 stone - let me know how you get on.

Good luck, thanks for reading and posting on my No diets thread, although in the end i actually ended up on a diet, so not exactly the way i planned it but as long as the end result is the same then i'm happy!

The most important thing about it all is the exercise imo over the past 6mths I've really made an effort to exercise everyday if i can, I haven't managed everyday but the point is i've aimed for that meaning that i've actually ended up exercising at least 3 times per week which is brilliant! I quite enjoy my areobics and aqua fit sessions it's nice to get out of the house for an hour or two and do something active that's just for me, it helps me lose weight, it boosts my mood, it gives me space and time to think, it means dp has to take over at home which is a good reminder for him plus dd's get some time with just their dad which is great too so it's win win all round!

I feel amazing now and i'm almost ready to stop (now i'm 9 st 8lbs) but i've still got some work to do on toning up a bit more so if i lose another half a stone I should be looking even better, it's my tummy that is the bit i'm still not quite happy with, I'm happy to carry on with going out exercising twice a week to tone/ stress relief and give me breathing space.

LoveMyGirls · 14/06/2008 19:26

meant to say dp is definitely liking the new more confident sexier me so is happy to take over when he gets in from work so i can go out exercising a couple of times a week because he knows it benefits us all!

Fanella · 14/06/2008 21:35

LLVL2 it's taken me since the beginning of the year to get this far, but I've further to go than you guys. The point is I'm getting there.

(although after tonight's blow out I feel I might have slipped back a bit )

LivingLaVidaLurker2 · 15/06/2008 21:07

Thanks for writing on here, Lovemygirls. It was really good to read through your thread and see what you've achieved. And, I think, out of all 'proper' diets, WW is absolutely the best because they don't ban anything, just really make you think about your portions etc. (I lost alot of weight with them about two years ago - hit my goal weight, then promptly fell pregnant! Took to the sofa with doughnuts and cake until I had my ds and, here I am, even heavier than I was back then. Ah well, it's coming off now. Slowly, but surely.)

I measured my waist today. 85cm, which apparently makes me more at risk of heart problems. It's really give me a kick up the backside as I want to be as healthy as possible for my two dcs. So.... tonight I went for a run (more of a very slow jog, but never mind!) and managed a mile. I was unfeasibly proud of myself.

Thanks again everyone.

Fanella - I think it's good to have a blow out now and again. I think it's the Food Doctor who says you have to be healthy 80% of the time. My trouble was, I was having blow outs about three times a week! And I realised I was drinking about 35 units a week, even though I have always though it was around 21 .

OP posts:
Fanella · 16/06/2008 10:13

Hey, I really like that - 80% of the time. I think I can manage that!

I've gone up again after this weekend. I've done loads of walking, but been quite naughty over the weekend. It's that time of the month again too so I tell myself that contributes a bit too.
