2 stone to lose not big enough for WLI

Keepingmecalm · 26/12/2025 16:13

I really want to lose 2 stone in the new year before May as we have a wedding abroad to attend. My current weight / stats means I don’t qualify for WLI from anywhere reputable. So what would be your best tips? I have started running and am going to do some weights and yoga classes as I want it to be an all round healthy life style. I don’t drink but I do love carbs and sweet things / chocolate etc! I restricted my eating before Christmas and lost half a stone but am looking for any tips or help.

Following with interest! I’m in a very similar situation.

Calorie counting worked for me. Work out how many you need to lose weight using a calculator online. Try to stick to high protein and you are more likely to stay full and not fall off the wagon.

goudacheese · 26/12/2025 16:33

I've just joined Weight Watchers, currently £10 per month for 10 months and want to lose a similar amount over the next 10 months. Plan to start it seriously tomorrow.

Keepingmecalm · 26/12/2025 17:02

@goudacheese I have tried Weight Watchers previously but for some reason it didn’t suit me.

@poppetandmog yes will definitely be looking at counting calories. Can you recommend a good way of calculating how many calories you need to stick to in order to lose weight?

I am also looking at reducing my ‘eating window’ each day.

I'd try the Six Pack Revolution. I lost a stone and felt much healthier.

Keepingmecalm · 26/12/2025 21:21

@schmalex I haven’t heard of that but will definitely look it up.

What is your BMI? With some health conditions you can get a prescription for WLD if it’s 27.

ClipCloppingAllOverTheHouse · 26/12/2025 21:28

You can lose 2 stone easily by cutting out carbohydrates. I've lost 2st in 10 weeks by simply doing that - I have ;

Scrambled eggs and tinned tomatoes for breakfast
Salad and chicken or fish (any) for lunch
Vegetables and chicken or fish for dinner

Snacks - any fruits

Calorie counting. I lost three stone this year and am going for the last stone now

Flowers999 · 26/12/2025 21:46

The Nutracheck app is amazing for weightloss. Tells you how many calories to eat for weightloss.

HotDiggidy2017 · 26/12/2025 21:56

Intermittent fasting (so an eating window) worked for me. Went from 73kg down to 61kg (5ft4inch) in 9 months, just in time for the taylor swift eras tour which was my motivator. Ive maintained 61kg since then in the same way for over a year now. It just feels like a way of life, not a diet and I've got a much better relationship with food and my body. Anyway, if youre considering an eating window then definitely read/listen to The 28 day Fast Start by Gin Stephens.

Count calories and eat in a deficit. You can’t lose weight without being in a deficit. Work out your TDEE, subtract 500 calories and you should lose a pound a week. Measure/weigh everything, from the milk in your tea to that ‘taste’ of whatever it is you’re cooking. Don’t forget the oil you cook with, the dressing you use. Do not add back exercise calories - apps are notoriously overgenerous in estimating calories burned.
Get moving. This is good for your overall health - it won’t really help lose weight as you’d have to walk for miles to burn off the calories for a biscuit, but it will be good for you anyway. Weight resistance is good too.
But calorie deficit is how to lose weight - it doesn’t really matter what kind of calories, though whole foods and protein will fill you up and keep hunger at bay and make it more sustainable.
Also keep in mind it’s not a short term thing - you have to be mindful of calories forever. Going back to your old eating habits will just put the weight back on.

Phentermine works brilliantly - surpesses appetite - and I've had no side effects. Got mine from Bodyline. So nice to feel free of food noise! Low carb diet also works, but that takes ages to get going for me, and I get headaches and nausea as I cut out carbs.

ICanSpellConfusionWithaK · 26/12/2025 22:42

I have just lost 2 stone. It took 5 months.

I used MFP and aimed for 1400 cals a day plus at least 10k steps (with that being made up of one 30-60 minute walk at a brisk pace) plus general incidental walking throughout the day.

Mysticmaiden · 27/12/2025 19:11

Myfitnesspal app is free to track food, macros and cals. Check your tdee and maintenance and deficit cals on tdeecalculator.net but myfitnesspal will also give you a recommended amount.
High protein, low carb is best amd easiest way to lose weight as it fills you up for longer and maintains muscle. Drink plenty of water too.

Keepingmecalm · 27/12/2025 20:10

@Nowdontmakeamess My BMI is 24 so under WLI levels. However I still weigh 2 stone more than I am happy with and than I used to weigh.

Thanks for the App suggestions and approaches am checking them all out to see which I prefer and think I can do. I want to be realistic to make this work and to make it a permanent change.Yes am definitely going to be moving more but know that it is the food that will make a difference to the weight loss.

Get the MyFitnessPal app and some digital scales, weigh and log absolutely everything you consume.

My downfall is bread / toast (and baked goods generally) so no bread, biscuits, crispbreads in the house. Instead of egg on toast I’ll have poached egg on wilted spinach and sautéed mushrooms.

I don’t usually buy sparkling water, or any bottled drinks except milk for my tea and coffee, but it does help me to feel full.

Slimfast shakes have always suited me and I lost a stone and a half in the six months before DD’s wedding last summer. I’ve successfully used Slimfast a few times over many years in the lead-up to a particular event, but half a stone, then a stone, has always gone back on within a few weeks of stopping and obviously it’s not a long-term eating plan.

There are no circumstances in which I would consider injections as a way to lose weight.

StealthMama · 27/12/2025 20:55

Fasting days. 2 per week on 500-800 calories. No booze, minimum 30 mins excercise 5 x wee and reduce whatever your bad habit is - snacks, chocolate etc as a reward treat only.

1stjan2026 · 01/01/2026 23:36

I started 16/8 in August and at a guess I would say I’ve lost about a stone and a half (I don’t weigh myself as find it demoralising), it definitely isn’t an isn’t fix but I’ve gone from a size 14 to a size 10 and not found it especially hard (and I hate diets).

Keepingmecalm · 01/01/2026 23:54

@1stjan2026 That’s brilliant. Well done you! I am going to be kick starting using some meal
replacement shakes for the first couple of weeks and then move to IF, Also cutting down carbs and sugar and calories. I am also going to increase my gym activity and my steps per day. I feel I need a kick start and then embed a healthier eating approach.
