Noom

I’m 60 and wondering about Noom for weight loss. I am finding since menopause that it takes ages to lose weight. I’m not very overweight, am very active and eat pretty healthily on the whole but still the scale won’t shift. I’m wondering about Noom just because I need a new plan.

I found it faaaaaar too much input needed, you have to read articles all the time and it assumes you need a lot of education and know nothing about healthy eating, and there were way too many notifications and demands. That doesn’t work for me. That was a few years ago now though (pre covid) so maybe it’s different now. I do know a couple of people who liked it though.

I agree completely, I felt like I had a stalker.

Picoloangel · 21/12/2025 10:55

Thanks for that - it sounds like hard work! Out of interest have you found anything else?
I tried WW which in the old days of a public weigh worked fantastically for me but the App based version I hated. It didn’t work at all.

I did noom during lockdown when I didn't want to go to slimming world. It taught me why I was eating too much food and helped me realise I over eat/eat my emotions etc. With this knowledge I go to slimming world to hold me to account which helps me to keep my over eating under control. Slimming world works for me because of free food

Snicksnacksnora · 21/12/2025 11:04

Slim pod xx

Merluzzo · 21/12/2025 11:08

Fast 800 worked quite well at the start, I liked that all my weekly meals could be planned in advance and I could print off a complete shopping list. There’s also a helpful and supportive forum but my lack of willpower scuppered me in the end.

Mounjaro is the only thing that worked for me but not everyone is comfortable going down that route and as you’re not very overweight it wouldn’t be an option for you.

Sorry, not very helpful really!

Picoloangel · 21/12/2025 12:37

I definitely can’t do 800. I can’t do very low calories I’ve tried and it makes me feel like I am going to faint. I have very low blood pressure which might be something to do with it.

I have done Slim Pod and it didn’t really work for me.
I used to IF and I’m going to start that again.

I lost 30kg on noom to go through ivf in 2020. The reading is alot but its all psychological, teaches you why , when and how. After having 2024 baby i put most of the weight back on and trialled weight watches but it wasn't for me so thinking of starting noom again.

Penisbeakeralltheclassics · 22/12/2025 01:12

I know you know this, but it’s about changing your eating habits for good, or you will just float back to the start again.

I reassessed my diet and made fundamental changes, that regime meant I lost a bit of weight and now it is steady at a new lower weight.

I changed my breakfast and lunch and reduced my portion of dinner. I’m not super strict so every so often I need to go to this new ‘baseline’ without any extra biscuits or booze (not that I eat a lot of this anyway) but it just what I eat, not a diet as such.

Yes and this is pretty much how I’ve always lived and it’s kept me slim and fit. As the years have rolled by though it’s harder and harder to stay the same weight and to exercise at the same level I used to. I think I need a reset as I always exercised a crazy amount and my body just doesn’t want to do as much any more as I get injured more easily.

I believe the latest research confirms that exercise isn’t about weight, it makes little difference except to your endocrine system. You just need to eat less as your base. I have the smart scales and over time my base calorie requirement has fallen. A new base is needed if you want to stay the same size. I weigh the same but have more muscle now so I’m actually thinner.

Weight training. It’s fantastic and you don’t need to look like a gym bro. Your 80 year old self will
thank you daily.

Yes I do this three times per week, heavy weights too. I think all of the things that generally work - low carb, high protein, strength training, high step count etc just don’t work as well anymore.
I suspect now that I am older the answer is better nutrition- I know all the good foods etc but I need that accountability and structure. I think weight loss and health is very different at 60 than it is at 30 or 40.

I lost 3 stone using Noom. You can choose when you set up how much reading you want to do. I went for 10 minutes a day and I learnt a lot about emotional eating which is what I was doing and that I had no off switch for my appetite. I only paid for the 6 months I was losing weight but the knowledge hasn’t left me and I’m a healthy weight and exercise in a way that I enjoy now. Good luck

AmicaNemica · 23/12/2025 08:00

I am the same age and responded to a special offer for Noom and managed to lose a fair bit just by logging calories, its database is pretty good. For free though you can use the NHS weightloss app and I lost 3 kgs in 12 weeks by logging calories and using AI to guess calories, this was on 1700-2000 calories.

Oh yes, I’m mid 50’s and eat like a very healthy toddler (portion wise). I’m not hungry though so it’s clearly all I need. If you are lifting and moving, it’s the only bit missing.

BelleEpoque27 · 23/12/2025 10:47

I found it utterly pointless. It didn't teach me anything I didn't know - I've been overweight my whole life, I've read everything and done every diet.

I guess if you're new to dieting it's probably a decent place to start.

HermioneWeasley · 23/12/2025 10:49

I hated it - only lasted a week or so. Waaay too much admin and didn’t work for me psychologically.

i went on ozempic. Best thing i ever did. Turns out I’m not greedy or lazy, just didn’t have right levels of GLP 1.

Same! (Although Mounjaro)

Picoloangel · 26/12/2025 10:59

I’m not sure I could do weight loss jabs - I think my BMI isn’t high too low and I’d worry about gastrointestinal side effects as I have IBS. It’s generally v well controlled and I’d be loathe to upset it and trigger it as it can take months to settle down.
