How to lose weight as a mum…HELP!!

I have 15 month old twins, work 3 days a week. I spend most of my time supervising the girls or rushing around like crazy trying to get housework done when they are napping 🤣 recently realised my clothes are getting tight and I’ve put weight on on my face.
i used to be a huge fan of Caroline Girvan and running. Also used to be quite careful about what I ate. Now I don’t even think about what I’m eating and by the time the girls are in bed and the house is cleaned up I just want to spend time with my partner and to be honest slob around and watch TV. But I miss how I felt when I was fitter and healthier and want to get into a little routine. Nothing excessive and I can’t afford the gym or classes, but I have weights, a barbell and a bench at home.
please mums…can anyone give me tips on how to get into an exercise routine at home and how to motivate myself to stop stuffing myself with bread, wine and cheese! I will need to
go back to basics as not strong anymore and got quite unfit! What are your secrets to being a healthy mum?!

It will get easier as your children get older. You will be able to find times to exercise properly in a year or so. In the meantime, you can do a little bit of yoga/stretching while looking after them. And try to eat the right things. And don't feel like you have to eat your childrens leftovers (not saying that you do, just I did, and it helped a lot when I remembered that I am not the dustbin!!)

@PeatandDieselfan i am terrible for eating the girls leftovers!! Plus there are always nice unhealthy snacks at work! Thank you… it’s tough at the moment! Yoga is actually a great idea :)

Also, trying not to eat at all after 7pm helped me. I do most of my unhealthy eating after the children are in bed...

I always exercised in my lunch break at work so it wasn't taking any extra time out of my day.

I'd say meal planning and advance food prep is essential. It's far too easy to get derailed if you don't have a plan. As the army adage goes, proper planning and preparation prevents piss poor performance and let's face it, getting anything done is like a military operation with kids 😅

Weight loss is 95% diet so by all means exercise for health and wellbeing but ifyou want to lose fat it's the food you eat :)

Try setting an eating window rather than calorie counting as you don’t have time or energy for that - perhaps 11-7 . It stops the evening snacking for a start and reduce calories as it’s missing out breakfast . Be mindful of what your eating but don’t say no to a biscuit or two .
Try and get your steps up with some buggy walks , exercise classes on youtube are great for a quick 15 minute workout too

I don’t envy the twins, I have a 9 month old myself and it’s hard enough with one!

I don’t eat anything after dinner. I floss, brush my teeth and just drink water, tea (no milk or sugar obviously) or herbal teas. I can be difficult at the beginning but becomes a habit very quickly. I also rarely drink alcohol, went from 2-3 bottles of wine a week to 1-2 a year five years ago and never looked back. My quality of life has improved so much that it’s maybe worth sacrificing for a bottle of Dom Perignon but not much else.

As for the exercise, I exercise in the evening after dinner. DH takes care of the baby. I’ve done this for a long time, didn’t have a break during pregnancy so everyone understands that it’s my me time and respects that. I love Les Mills, I got the subscription during the pandemic and have been training with them ever since.

Honestly just cut out the booze and you’ll lose weight and feel better

If you enjoy running then I can’t recommend a running buggy enough! Means you don’t have to rely on childcare or waiting until they are sleep to get it done, I have 2 under 2 and have just ordered a double running buggy after using a single with my first!
